Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.

I'm not for or against the game personally, but this statement is ill-informed. First, GW 1 already has WASD. Second, I've read every interview, editorial, and dev forum post that I could find on GW 2 and there haven't been many definite details released at all... the beta is still at least a year away. No one knows what the combat and skill systems, graphics engine, or character models and animations will be like. We do know that the questing system will be different, the world will be mostly persistent, and there will be different playable races.
In summary, no one knows much about it anyway, but from what is known, it won't be anything like GW 1.
I can't believe I read some guys saying GW is a grind. I mean......what ......the....heck? Starting from zero, in a couple of weeks you can have your char max-ed with a decent gear ready to pvp all you want. You call this grind? Unless trying to get some titles (that are only for fun mainly) like "Friend of Luxons" etc is a grind. That's ridicilus, as I said, that's for fun, for you (whoever) to persue if you want or not. Even if you miss elites, there's minimum "grind" to get them, as you can either "farm" them in your "free" time or when you feel like pve-ing a little or you can just unlock them through pvp. No biggie at all. The only "grind" that there might be is getting your account high ranked in pvp so that you get better grps to pvp with. But that itself (to be high rank in pvp) doesn't affect your char's performance, but the ability to find "better" grps, so it's not the kind of grind that you must absolutely go through to get to max lvl of skills (or even to get close to max lvl that can take you ages) etc like in other games so that you are able to pvp with equal terms (so called "high end pvp"). So, putting this aside, to have your char "max'ed" and decently geared in 2 weeks and ready to pvp (or do whatever else you want within "high end" content like farm for money, for gear etc.) is no grind AT -freaking- ALL. I really can't even imagine where you guys come from. What other game have "spoiled" you so much to consider this a grind? You wanna know what grind is? Try Lineage 2. I have an Overlord there, with max lvl being at 78 he's almost 76 now ***after 3.000 hours***. Yep, you read well, after **three thousand hours*** of playing that toon. Now THAT'S a grind. Anyway, putting this ridiculus argument aside, I proceed into commenting about GW 2. First I would like to make a parenthesis and say that defending GW being a grind or not doesn't make me a fanboi. I played GW for a few months, but not being an open/free environment - not really a MMORPG - I couldn't find myself playing it for any longer. So after saying this, I would also like to say that GW's pvp is very well implemented, "classes" are quite balanced and pvp itself is very fun and enjoyable. (Problem is as I said above that it's arena style, not a free/open PvP environment (like UO pre-trammel was or Lineage, or even Eve online etc), which is more to my taste. So after this comment of mine you can safely assume that my opinion about GW 2, is that if it can combine GW's pvp with an open/free environment, then it will be a very nice game to play. In fact, after Darkfall that is the game I anticipate the most, GW 2 is Nr. 2 in my anticipate list.
ok lineage vs gw
example: Rank 12: Savior of the Kurzicks/Luxons: 10,000,000 Faction spent (its about 3k ingame hours) 10 pve skills affected
i think gw2 will have even more grind
i dont count pointless titles like cartographer..drunkrad etc
but some titles affect ur gameplay..and they are grind
Does it give bonuses to your pvp capabilities? No. Just some "added benefits" to your pve experience. Well, as I said, just a fun title for whoever to persue if he wants --> aka: if he's into pve and wants to go through the grind to do it.
If it doesn't affect your pvp capabilities then......then it's not a "must do" grind. Something you must absolutely do in order to start "living" in the "high end".
just asking but, considering the first official GW expansion hasn't been released yet and GW2 is still quite a ways off...who's said GW2 will be f2p aswell? just askin...
and also, the majority of all sequels or #2's follow their predecessors in 80% of ways or more...so GW2 will not be revolutionary and will not put a better public interest in GW...just because it becomes a true MMO once and for all does not mean people will like it...it still won't be sandbox, it still won't have player housing and PvP will still come down to who has which combination of classes...PvP in GW was never skill based and probably never will be...I'll try it but there are no guarantees that I'll like it...
also, people thought WoW would be a great game for everyone...was it? no, look at all the haters on these forums that won't shut up...people thought GW would be great for a lot of people...was it? no, people hate instances...it all boils down to personality...but if everything about GW2 you guys say is true then...most true GW fans will hate GW2...
this whole tread does suffer a lot from the fact that people playing different mmo's does have different experience and use the same words for different things. like the grind discussion.
so i try aswell , ready to be misunderstood!
GW is an "no montly fee" instance game original made to be great at PvP, but with PvE content too. A PvE that is storyline quest driven. And look alot more like a RPG than an mmo. And that has recived 3 independent game worlds in 2 years.
The type of grind there don't exsist in GW is powergamer grind where your PvE 100+hours grinded gear makes you suppior in PvP. The grind that do exsist is to get a new title or the next skill - personal i don't call it a grind, because there is not really any achivements that makes your character stronger the more you play. It just gets more options.
And thats whats really limits PvE in GW , after 3 independent gameworlds there was still not anything really new to do for PvE, just more of the same. Well the first true expansion look to adress that somehow, we have to see how succesfull ! but the game engine is just not build for adding more PvE functinality into the game.
But still the game is limited in other ways. The most severe for a PvP game is that the playing skill gap between PvE and GvG is huge and the game does not do well in supporting people to make that jumb, though it tryes.
I personal think thats the 2 main reasons that the developers are ready for a GW2.
But with that said i do not want to predict about the succes of a GW2. Not only because going in the direction of adding PvE grind content is going away from the core values, and most mmo does "die" when they try to copy others. But also because the MMO players expectations change thesse years. And whats in demand in 2 years from now is difficult to say.
i expect that there will be a demand for a lot more integration beween PvE and PvP , maybe to the amount of Realm vs Realm play
I do not doubt that they will make a great game, but will they make a game that suits the demands at that time ?
gw's concept of multiplayer was the first.. and i wouldnt mind trying out GW2.. im sure theyre gonna try something even newer
Err yea limiting you to up to 7 other peole to paly with was very 'inovative'
I don't want to play with more then 7 persons at any moment. So I fail to see your point.
Having a ranking system with thousands of players can be cool...sharing 1 area with more then 7...no thanks, I will pass.
Well that may be ok for loners who dont have many friends but a MMORPG involves more people than that. This was one of the main reasons Guildwars wasant a true MMO even the games devs agree with this.

I have p[osted all information that has been released about the game so far!
or this is what i have to say.....if u r too lazy to go to that post:
Guild Wars 2 [GW2] is going to be the best mmorpg when it is released. they are basically taking World of Warcraft [WoW] and Guild wars and combining them, but Blizzard will not be involved. This is basically what i am thinking. You will have a single player set, Like WoW, and can pick from atleast 5 new races in addition to human including.....: Sylvari, Asura, Charr, Norn , & Dwarf. I am pretty sure they are still generating ideas for more races. I dont think that there will be two sides, like Horde and Alliance in WoW, but anything is possible. There will be a single character system, a character will not have a type like at present [in guild wars]. A single character can be used for any of the three types of game play; PvE, World PvP and Structured PvP. The level cap of 20 will be raised, no maximum level has been given and it has been suggested that there may be no maximum.
The control system is going to be significantly changed (in particular mouse movement in the form "click to move" will be removed from the game), however target locking will still function. Guild Wars 2 will introduce a Z-Axis to the game which will allow characters to jump over obstacles. Actions which have characters interacting with the environment, such as sliding, climbing trees and swimming will also be introduced. The thing that i think will most attract players is that there will be NO SUBSCRIPTION FEES! <<< My Favorite! The game will be on multiple servers or "worlds", however unlike region transfer in Guild Wars 1, transferring between "worlds" will be unrestricted. Structured PvP is gonna be basically like GvG and World PvP will be any and all levels. The only thing i know about this is that it will always take place in the "Mists".
I really hope there will be seamless worlds like in Wow!
Since almost everyone's complaining the lack of "Fun" and "skills" in WoW, i think many ppl would like to play Guildwars 2. Seriously, i mean, look at it, GW 2 has instances, which are very fun for some ppl, and also it will have persistent world for all those instances haters. SERIOUSLY, i think GW2 would make a great game for everyone.
BUt that's just my opinion, cuz the game's still not out yet. but i do really look forward to GW2.!
LOL I think you are 100% wrong ROFL!! If WoW and Guild Wars are the only MMO's you've tried, then you obviously don't know anything fella. People base their fun factor over many different things, not just whether or not theres instances and a persistent world to explore, EVERY MMO has a persistent world to explore unless your talking about DDO. There's more to it than just that bro.
I've played every MMO thats come out since UO, and I can honestly say the most "fun" I've ever had was while playing EQ 1. Everything else has been subpar at best to me, well next comes EQ2, but the original EQ was by far the greatest MMO because I actually felt part of that world while playing it. Guild Wars, WoW, and every other MMo barely held my interest that long. Guild Wars held my interest for literally 10 minutes.
It was definitely NOT what I was looking for in a MMO. Actually, to me Guild Wars is a amateur beginners MMORPG. With all the MMO's due to come out soon like AoC, GnH, WAR, etc, I highly doubt many people are even thinking of guild wars 2 let alone believing it will be "the game everyone's looking for" ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!

Guild Wars 2 [GW2] is going to be the best mmorpg when it is released. A single character can be used for any of the three types of game play; PvE, World PvP and Structured PvP.
Any mmorpg what has both PvP and PvE playing styles in same game will never be best of anything. Too many comprimises and conflicts between those playing styles in base design.

I'd say Guild Wars has the best PvP of any MMO and personally I found the PvE enjoyable. I would say Guild Wars is one of the best MMOs on the market because of how balanced the PvP is and how many skills there are. I think one reason people don't like Guild Wars is because its so skill based and people who have no skill would rather spend hours and hours raiding and grinding to max their level and gear out to be good at PvP. Guild Wars is one of 2 MMOs that ever gives me that itch to come back and play, but I've been trying to fight it off.

Never played GW PvP side, because I'm pure PvE player. Sure, people can enjoy GW PvE side, I have played it too, but it's far from good. Also If I would get buck everytime someone use " I have skill and others don't " in forums, I would be rich.
I mean GW is nice game and GW 2 could be that too, but it isn't for everyone like OP is saying. Also best games for anything are games what are design for correct playing style for they customers.

Eh. Can of worms, dude. I play and enjoy GW, but the "arena" based pvp leaves something to be desired. I play Guild Wars like I'd play unreal tournament or battlefield. If I want some more immersive "mmo pvp", I play eve or lineage 2. I do not feel that I get the full experience from pvp in a mmo without the political metagame and economical competition.
For us who enjoy conducting full scale wars over the course of months and years, Guild Wars just doesn't offer that kind of gameplay. Saying we enjoy other mmo's pvp models more because we "lack skilz" is irritating and elitist at best. I get more satisfaction from winning a war through my enemy yielding rather than having a "higher score than the opposing team".

What data gets transfered from GW to GW2? In what way are veteran players going to be rewarded at the start of GW2? Thanks.

from what I've read so far they're going to be kill lots of parts of guild wars that I've liked...
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
