do you people even read the information given as to the storyline, gameplay, and style before you actually play it? it's exactly what it looks like. it's a hack n slash with repeatable quests. there is no end to the game, there is no finishline to cross. it's a never ending beat 'em up and loot the corpse game. next time try taking time to read up on the website and forums before setting blind expectations of a game you obviously know nothing about.
It's a great game for in-between those times where your pissed off at your current game and just need to go hack on some really great looking monsters. The graphics are interesting, the quests are fun but repeatability lies solely on how bored you are on another game- it is just what it is and I like it for those momments (it has saved me from tossing my mouse or slammin a keyboard many times).
Dungeon Runners has no point. I mean.. the game is free... its a hack and slasher.... there's no deep storyline or anything.. it's just plain mindless fun.. you won't find the 'meaning of your life' in this game.
I tried this game ... played it for week or so... first few days it was fun, really. But after that i was asking myself "why am i playing this?" . Then i realized that all what i was doing is killing same boss in same dungeon for 15 lvls then after i got all epic eq there i could switch to next dungeon to ... kill next boss for new 15 lvls .
There is no storyline, absolutely no interaction between players, everything is instanced and there is no PvP. There isn't any way to sell your "2 days-boss-killing-found-epic-eq" to anyone as there is NO way to trade between players. It's like mini-wow, where all that you are doing is killing bosses. With absolutely no purpose.
Firstly i was like "wow, 5$ it's cheap ... nothing to loose". And i was bashing at people saying that even 5$ is too much for this game. After 1 week or so i couldn't find any difference between this game and some off-line RPG . And if i wanted to play some RPG that isn't online i wouldn't choose this one definitely.
Conclusion ?
If they were paying 5$ / month instead of charging that they would still have problems filling servers with people.
And i was wondering why is most populated server on peak times "215 people" and other 20-50 playing at same time.
Even if someone doesn't agree with me that this game is utterly stupidest mmo ever made numbers are speaking for themselves.
Right now on all 9 online servers there are 419 people playing. I think that any discussion how "this game still has potential" doesn't have any sense. It's just fantastic example of bad game... masterpiece of what shouldn't be done, ever again.
2) What you see as a detriment, I see as a merit. I love the simplicity of the game. It doesn't aspire to be a full-fledged MMO and I don't want it to be one. If I'm in the mood for depth and complexity, I play CoH or LotR. If I'm in the mood for mindless, silly mayhem, I play DR.
3) The game was literally just opened to the public and had a deliberately soft launch. While NCSoft as a company is very large, there are only 9 dedicated employees for this game. You're seeing a low population for a few reasons:
The game had a soft launch
The game is very easy and casual. Players tend to burn through the content of the game, which I've always said should be considered a secondary game, not a primary one. The population is high when there's an influx of players, but tails off after the new players have played through the initial content. I envision most of those players coming back on a monthly basis for the new patches and content.
Due to the fact that this game is both easy and casual-player friendly, there's a very large percentage of the players that play for less than an hour at a time and not every day. They're still active players and/or subscribers, but the number of players on at any given time is far lower than the total number of active players.
One of the problems was all the world of warcraft newbs who dont want challenge and are trying to make it like world of warcraft, sort of means the games way to easy and might not have any depth below powerhouse through each dungeon...
I mean they want new races, they want auction houses, all they ask for is coding improvements instead of content; and then they just leave after they get bored of the current content...
Sometimes listening to your players can have a bit of an adverse effect, its slowly getting better but it could be a lot faster.
It's funny, but several people have made comments similar to "why am I playing this?" and I have asked myself the same question about all the other MMOs I've ever played.
In all those other games, there's just too much of an obligation to play, because if you don't your friends start to leave you behind in levels, you miss out on events, raids or guild meetings, and you get behind on the content. And don't forget that you still have to grind if you want a decent amount of money, equipment, and skills. In fact, playing a traditional MMO is like having a second job, except you pay for it. It all seems like you are accomplishing something important, but really its an illusion.
Well that goes along with the problem I have with this game being to easy, I mean all it amounts to is farming if there isnt any challenge.
Its like 7v1ing the computer in starcraft to increase your record, if thats all there was to starcraft no one would play it because your record would mean nothing. If the games to easy then the gear you've farmed also means nothing.
Oookay... Runner-lovers.. you're right, it's just a simple hack and slash...
and Runner-haters... you're right... it's dull, pointless, and ultimately annoying.
As to the number of registered users? Come on, you could advertise Free Massively Multiplayer Extreme Tiddlywinks and get 18,000 registrations... they wouldn't play for more than 5 minutes, but they'd register to try it.
The idea of a simple, pared down, adventure game could work... but Dungeon Runners isn't that game. The painful lack of originality... no, wait... that hints that they tried to come up with things but fell short... no, the Dungeon Runner team deliberately copies elements of other games with no attempt to disguise the fact, AND a strange lack of comprehension about what was worthwhile about what they're copying. Most of this game was directly copied from Diablo... inventory, item, even the way items drop off creatures. However, it's not as deep, immersive or sophisticated as Diablo. For the record, I don't consider Diablo deep, immersive, or sophisticated... it's as simple as an rpg-ish game should ever get..
Your right, diablo 2 is as simple as any game should be. It doesnt rival the kill 100 boar quests we lavish ourselves in today, god forbid we ever turn back to days when quests required multiple parts and storylines... makes me shudder even thinking about it.

Your absolutely correct. One of the creators over at NCSoft even said its a game ment to be played while you wait for a raid to start in your other game.
