Mastermind Question

Hi i was wondering which secondary power is considered the best, or which one you shouldnt touch with a 10 foot pole. Also feel free to give your oppinion on different main powers...i seem to be leaning towards robotics, but are any of the other ones worth a try?

I like Robots and Mercs, and prefer Shadow as a secondary. Both of these are ranged pets, so the heal from shadow is great for them, also there are some holds and such later on that help out.

  • FensusFensus Member Posts: 211

if the pets are ranged, wouldnt a spec that can slow down enemies and stuff be better? i thought healing would be better for melee pets.

  • judgebeojudgebeo Member Posts: 419

Think Necro + Dark Miasma is a good combo, you will get another pet at the end of miasma that, if Im not wrong, can heal too, the zombies will learn some life draining skills and debuffing, also, you will get "fear" to control the others one, and, slow them, so, your melee pets will get them easily, the problem I found is, that if the oponent is heavy ranged, you can meet some problems reaching there, and also, in pvp, you will need something like group fliying or similar or will never catch a ranged oponent with this pets.

So perhaps, in ranged, robots are good because the can put shields over them and you, and put dark miasma on second to heal them, so, they are ranged, you can mantain them around you and heal a full everything, also, you will get the last pet of the dark miasma that can heal and will have a good protection, and, healing power, plus, control thanks to fear and slow.

    THUGS!!!

Foot Stomp + Fire + AOE = Ownage

  • BaxslashBaxslash Member UncommonPosts: 237

Hehe, I went with Mercs on my main MM, then, Thugs on my second MM, but, of late haven't done much playing as work and several obligations have left me very busy.

But, If I was to do another MM, would choose Robots.

    Thugs: Best overall.

Bots: Best at AoE and relatively sturdy.

Mercs: Best range and single target damage, extremely squishy.

    Dark: Best overall.

Force Field: Good defense if you don't mind rebuffing all the time.

Traps: Pretty good debuffs + some more.

    I play a MM,

I have preference to bots over the other types of pets. They good great upgrades, have both range and melee attacks and are resistant to the majority of attacks against them. I play Dark miasma as my secondary. Besides getting a nice AOE heal you get some major debuffs.

Personally thats my favorite. If I had to take a second choice it would be necromancy/zombies.

Also if you are new MM and go bots I would not pick any of the blaster rifle abilities for your skill slots. Put them all in bots and Dark miasma. after level 30 any pulse rifle type skills are fairly worthless. besides, a bot pet is your bread and butter.

I like the mercenary dark combo, though I made the stupid mistake of making a merc/ poision one.

  • Darksider25Darksider25 Member Posts: 93

I roll my MM with Mercs/Dark Miasma= Its perfect for soloing. Not bad for grouping either.

Hopefully the next pets are females.

I know peoples ask a lot for many things, but they will most likely be humans-looking (no bots) due to the amount of time involved in creating them.

I would personnally enjoy medieval-fantasy looking pets as well...or amazon/greek looking pets with javelins and the like.

I, and my friend, have a Robo/Traps MM.... holy crap they're insane. You can make bosses vomit all over the place, burn them down with your robots, and mines and crap blowing up all over. They're pretty cool imo. I haven't tried any other MM so I can't say on the others.

  • wolf73wolf73 Member UncommonPosts: 10

tried zombie combo but got killed alot so Robots all the way and yes some would say that female pets would be great but i would like a summoner with demons or the such like i think that would be great myself what do you all think

Ninja/Dark is a nasty combo, provided you have a specific bind:

    /bind SHIFT+LeftClick "petcom_all goto aggressive"

This bind makes all your henchmen go to a specific place, which you can designate with a reticle, and then go into aggressive mode. That way you'll take advantage of the Ninja's superior hand to hand damage on all the ninjas instead of having ½ of them standing around throwing useless shuriken. Just target the reticle near the enemy and send them off. You'll find that this is much more effective than micromanaging your targets and using the attack command. Just let them do their thing, keep them healed and use smoke bomb and tar patch when you feel like it. If you get darkfall you can also cloak your ninjas so you can take out enemies with another mob standing 10 meters away and they won't notice you. I've been playing on the next hardest difficulty level since level 8 with no problems and very few deaths. As for PvP, I have no idea how effective they are since I play US servers from EU and PvP is no fun when you have ping 240-300 .

I currently have a zombie/dark MM which is pretty awesome. With this combo you can have about 8-9 pets at any given time....3 minions, 2 LTs, 1 boss, 1-2 spirits, and your pet from dark powerpool. I don't really think you can go wrong with and of the combinations(not sure bout traps though).

  • BhazirBhazir Member Posts: 321

Well my main MM is robotic/force fields. And with all upgrades the burn most stuff down really fast! And for when you have some harder enemies, just make sure you bubble up all your bots. Have to say it has been a long time since I lost 1 bot in a fight and I play my missions on the hardest setting. Only those heroes give me sometimes a headbreak, but for those I always got a shivan at my side as well

My MM, based off of HUNK from Resident Evil, uses Mercs. I ended up liking them better than zombies that my necromancer tried first.

I also have traps. The Triage beacon is good for incresed regen for everyone between fights. It's hard to keep pets at full health, but at lest they are easy to replace when they die.

OMG you are now my hero (or is that villian?).  I have this problem with my zombie MM, they like to sit back and vomit instead of getting up and close.

I like robots & Zomb and, IMHO, Dark is the best secondary by far.  With my bots I just stand near them and twilight grasp.  With my zombs I charge with them and use Air Suppority to keep the bad guys flopping while they puke all over the place.  Toss in twilight grasp when needed, really enjoy the zomb/dark combo very busy and fun.

I just started to play a mastermind...pretty hot at that: Robotic Pirate, Robot pets, and Force Field secondary...

just 1 question.  Should I enhance the Summon Pets power? or should I just enhance everything else up?

  • JarloJarlo Member Posts: 221

Any enhance you put on summon pet goes to the pet.  So if you put dmg or acc on it that means the pets will have + dmg/acc.  You should not slot up your pet buff ability that doesn't see a big benefit like the pet summon powers do.

Go ahead and 6 slot all your pet summons.  Mostly for dmg/acc but you can toss some recharge and def in there if you want.

Recharge doesn't fit in a summon skill

I would advice for the tier 1 pets to go 3 dmg/acc. You will get 3 of those and they are 2 levels below you. Meaning they will need the max acc to hit something of your own level. The 3 dmg enhancements you can still play with other types, like knockback for bots or any other depending on the type of pet.

For the second tier you don't even need the 3 acc anymore and you could do with 2 in those, only 2 pets out and they are only 1 level below yourself. For my bots I have gone 2 acc/dmg, 1 heal and 1 def buff.

Then you got the third tier you can't miss mostly. But remember that your pets are your main damage.

And as previous poster said: skip slotting the upgrades. Perhaps the second one you could slot with 1 recharge reduction as well with 1 endurance reduction. And slot the first one just with 1 endurance reduction. Doesn't matter though, you still will have a massive lead time to setup once past level 32.

    If you do set IOs...

Try to get the final total in the 80-95% range for Acc and Damage if the power was 6-slotted.

Don't get a full set necessarily, they may have huge flaws.

Check the extra bonuses you find cool from getting many IOs in a set, and get the important powers.  You can do various interesting mix, for example, if you have 3 EDICT OF THE MASTER and 3 UNQUESTIONNING LOYALTY, you get the following bonuses:

    4% jump speed (who cares?)

1,1% immobilize res (now that is completely, totally and unquestionnably useless, it reduce the duration of an immobilize)

1,5% + 0, 75% HPS = 2,25% hps, or 27,05 in  total number.  This is definitely nice to have, considering the MMs have the least hps out there.

Remember the following rules:  Each precise bonus can stack only 5 times.  So if you get 1,5% hps from 5 powers, getting it more won't give you anything more.

You could slot recharge in Dark Servant and in Gang War...below, I will give you the last builts I have for my 2 MMs.

I put most of my toons on the ratemybuild.com website, even if it is mostly deserted as a site, they offer nice tools IMO.  Feel free to ask any question you have as to why I built a pet in a way or another.
