SWG or DAoC??

I dont own an MMORPG for my computer but I just started traveling and will be for a year and we have wireless internet so i was looking at buying either SWG or DAoC. Im a EQOA player that is looking for some more in depth quests, good graphics, and decent PvP. I know DAoC has great PvP but SWG just looks like more fun even though its more $$$. Any help would be great.

I was playing DAoC when it first came out.  Lasted about 3 months till the content jsut bored be silly.  Graphics were great, but there was jsut no game content.  SWG looks good, but still an unknown for me, havent played it yet.  Currently sticking to EQ and looking forward to EQ2, depending on subs price.

a lot have people have said the "3 month" thing...the only reason i might buy DAoC over SWG is for the new expansion and because it's cheaper. EQ2 does look good though too...but we still have to wait a bit for that one.

Try to find a friend with SWG and DAOC and try out both.. If that's not an option check out all the ingame movies you can.

Graphics on both are pretty decent with SWG being better of coarse.  DOAC does have good graphics thanks Shrouded Isles new engine.

Gameplay on DAOC is pretty easy to learn.  But honestly its a xp hunt killing hacking and slashing, or crafting (terribly boring) or end game Realm Vs Realm combat.  Lvl 50 is the cap in DAOC so it doesnt take long to get to the end game.  But to be honest it has gotten quite quite boring.  They are releasing another expansion soon something about Atlantis and are supposed to be beefing up the RvR some more.

But to be honest the games almost 2 years old, social system is near absent (none) all the old good RP'ers are quitting each day, game is still unbalanced (if it weren't why are they releasing an expansion looking at all the classes again and beefing/dumbing down some of them? ) Mytics customer service is pretty good.  Crafting is so boring, takes a lot of platinum ( 1p=1000gold) to reach decent status then you get to take orders all day (boring).  End game RvR is zerg or stealthers.

SWG I haven't really gotten into yet since it looks unfinished as well, I will give it at least another 3 months before I try it.  I doubt they will offer any specials since so many fanboys are paying them to continue development of the game.  Looks good though :)

Hope that helps some, I would just see if you have a buddy playing them and try them out though.

well as a fulltime DAoCer and just recently a SWGer, I can tell you that both games are very good. it depends on what you are looking for really. DAoC is more for maxing your character, going into dungeons and killing big shit so you can be uber when you go pvp. Which is fun. SWG is more for the person who doens't want to get xp and wander around in the wilderness (kinda AC2 like...) and hang out in the cities and roleplay with the dancers *wink wink, nudge nudge* If you want a social game, get SWG, if you want a dungeon crawling fantasy with awesome PvP, get DAoC. Give them both a try if you can. They are both fun in their own ways.

SWG will be good in a few months if/when they get the bugs out.  DAoC is still ok, but its not like it once was.

I am currently playing DAOC and actually still dabling in EQ, but i have tried SWG... i will have to agree with a lot of the people here when i say that SWG has potential, but it is still very buggy... Give it a few months, once they get these bugs out, it should really improve... JHHO

As a relative newbie to the online experience I'm still dabbling in the offerings right now. So far DAoC satisfies my urges for the Tolkien-esque experience, more so than EQ which I'm also playing. I'm finding it to be a pretty slow pace in general with most of them though. I haven't yet tried SWG, but the friends I know who are playing it have been highly suggesting it to me.  At this point I'm going to wait it out for a more quest based game to come out.

Ok, I am a quest kind of guy too and SWG is horrible for missions, dear god i don't know what they were thinking. The combat is no good, the skill based system instead of leveling is too easy. The planets are big but outside of the cities, all it is are a few monsters and the odd tusken fort for miles and miles. If you are a star wars fan i guess you could enjoy it but for me, i personally thought the game lacks so much stuff, even if they fix the bugs the missions are still horrible and the landscapes are not intruiging at all.

I played Daoc for about a year and a half, was pretty fun but slowly got  boring.

I also have SWG which is a great game but has too many bugs for me, I just canceld my account. I plan on returning when the bugs arnt as bad. But SWG does offer much much more than DAOC, daoc is simply leveling up while SWG you can do lots of stuff like owning a store and other stuff. Oh and if your a crafter I think you would like SWG crafting a lot better than DAOC, in SWG I went with Armoursmith and its a lot of fun, way better than daoc.

Can think of a sig atm...

Stores are boring though. They sit out in the middle of nowhere thanks to SWG's "intruiging" enviroments image. The crafting system is good but whats the point of crafting weapons and armour if the combat is complete bogus? Well some people might enjoy this game, but i didn't enjoy it at all. I found it really boring.

There isn't much of a point to crafting great weapons if the combat doesn't hold up. I'm more impressed with the new batch of games than the old anymore. WoW is going to be cool and the combat of UXO is going to make having any kind of cool weapon more interesting.

ITs not that hard of a choice.  GO DAoC!  SWG is really bad.  I watched a friend play it and camelot is the better game of the two.  Camelot will get boring 4-9 years after SWG.  Which means that camelot will not get boring until 4-9 years bacause as soon as u boot up SWG it gets boring.

Even tho' Daoc was the best mmorpg i have ever played i would unfortunately have to say try SWG.

Reason.....noobie part of Daoc is almost dead. Mythic concentrated on keeping its die hard players playing with introduction of new areas and uber loot only for hardened vet's...totally ignoring the low-end game. Gameplay is VERY group orientated....no new players=no groups for lowbies

Daoc although some say soloing is impossible....it would be a long torturous road to 50.....especially with scout, cleric and caster classes.

SWG even with its first person shooter combat and ease of soloing is a better new player entry into the mmorpg's.....i hate to say it tho :(

But Daoc is (or was) firmly a group orientated game so why solo?? After two years on Daoc i quit with a bank balance of 9 plat. I never bought expensive wep's and armour either. Not much when you consider my crafted swords cost half a plat and armour would be 4 or 5 plat then the cost of spellcrafting. yes necro's can solo effectively.....but does the guy want to life drain mobs from 1 to 50?

In SWG i can do a quenker mission for 5 k and buy a new sword....in Daoc after 10 hours of grping i would prolly come away with 300 gold which would buy nothing.

I used to play on lanc server alb.....salisbury plains would be home to 5 or 6 different grps. Before i quit a /who plains would show 8 peeps on the plains :( Keltoi would have 4 or 5 grps jostling for spots ...that went down to 1 :( and catacombs....bloody deserted :(

I miss Daoc as i said it is still my favourite mmorpg....i don't like SWG that much...read any of my posts about it....

But remember the guy wants advice on what to try....not what we think is best.

I really wanted to like DAOC but unfortunately it is one long NPC bashing treadmill (I even bought both expansion in the hope that things might expand but sadly 'no')

I like SWG because it _isnt_ a long onster bashing treadmill, sure you can kill NPCs all day (and make a tidy profit) but the point is that you dont _have_ to
