Thats still happening, even though the numbers should tell them otherwise.

Xbox360/PS3 type games in my opinion are much more enjoyable. but that's me.

I agree with Methane, I'd pick a playstation 3 or Xbox360 over Wii any day of the week.Imo, Its surprising how good the Wii sells considering it has probably the worst games of all consoles, even the Playstation 3's lineup is better then what Wii has to offer now. We got a port of the gamecube Zelda, a port of Resident Evil 4 and..Super Paper Mario if you live in the US. There, am I forgetting any titles that are worth my time? Nope. Its one minigame compilation after another, and the rest seems mediocre at best.
some might laugh about the GBA sales, I'm honnestly not surprised. GBA still has an impressive software library, and I don't know about the price in the USA, but a GBA micro is only 45$ here.
It's all fake sales figures anyways and tbh noone really knows the esact number of sales.
Microsoft count a sale as shipped to retail stores for example.
The 2nd graph isn't accurate. But the rest of the information comes from companies that actually Track sales data from retail in america and Japan.

I agree with Methane as well. I'm not surprised that the Wii is doing as well as it is. Nintendo hit the jackpot and is making mint in the casual games market. Sadly, however, in doing so they sortof betrayed their hard core fanbase. I have been a Nintendo fan for years. However, the Gamecube was a huge let-down for me and a lot of other people, but it still had a couple good games for more hard core players. However, with the Wii they seem to have completely given up on their traditional fanbase in favor of a much larger market who likes smaller, less intense games that don't appeal to hard core gamers. I can't really blame them. That's their strategy and they're entitled to it. It just frustrates me a little bit that they really ignored a good portion of their pre-existing fanbase. I'd love to be able to play Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games, but there's usually only one or two of each for a Nintendo system (Gamecube had Super Mario Sunshine, two Metroid games, Windwaker, and Twilight Princess came out so late I don't even count it). I'm just not going to buy a console for 3-4 or maybe 5 good games that I want to play.
So really, I'm not at all surprised that Nintendo is doing as well as it is. I just have no intention of buying a Wii now or in the future for myself. I'd much rather stick with my tradition, "uninnovative" games with standard controls that I love so much on my 360 and (soon to be) PS3.
Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT
yeah im not a Wii kinda guy. I would pick the 360/ps3 above it anyday. I honestly dont like their remotes ....... but yeah maybe if i had "extra" (LOL that'll be never) money i would buy one.

well as a devoted PC gamer, i really dont see what the huge deal is about the new console race
microsoft and sony duked it out for the gamers market (just like they did last generation, just with reversed roles)
and nintendo targeted a completely different audience (kids last gen, non-gamers this gen)
if you are having fun playing it for a long time, then it was a good investment, thats pretty much the end of the story
You know, it's a shame that the PS2 sales got left out of that list.
I'm pretty sure if someone hadn't it off, the numbers would show the PS2 outselling the xbox360.

I know what you guys are saying, about how you prefer the 360/PS3. But if someone says the Wii is a gimmick again....6 Million should tell them something.

A gimmick doesn't have to be a bad thing. If the Wii is a gimmick or not...I think it depends on the game. In a game like Wii sports or Metroid Prime, the Wii controls are exactly what makes those games special. Its obvious in Wii sports, and you actually controll your gun and aiming in MP with the special features in the Wii remote. However it just feels slapped on and like a gimmick in games like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It looks like a gimmick in Mario Galaxy as well.

Yeah but whenever, in the past, someone was referencing the Wii in a negative way, they always said, its a gimmick, blah blah, the gimmick is bad, blah, it will never sell, nintendo with another bad console.Change my mind so much I can't even trust it

I feel the reason there were so many bad games for the Wii that didnt take advantage of the Wii-remote properly is because they were rushed out and the Wii-remote features tacked on at the last minuite. We say this when the DS first came out, the majoraty of the games didnt use the touchscreen properly [spiderman] and it wasant till later that good touchscreen games came out. About the only good games back then for the DS were ones made directly by the 'Core' nintendo developers.
WHich is why i feel Dejavu here with the wii because most of the games dont use the remote proerly aart from a few of the games made by core develoers. games such as the mari party one Metroid Prime and Mario Galaxys [and yes i know you were not impressed with the last one but i feel its still too early to say]. There however was an exeption to this tho and that was resident evil 4 which i have to say is pretty fun with the ability to actually aim your gun properly rather than by using a joystick.

That's because the Wii is not aimed at game nerds, it's for people who usually don't buy consoles.
Nintendo has been clever and bold at the same time.
It knew it could not compete with Sony and MS and create something that has a more wide appeal, rather than concentrate on the core game market.
Its games are generally very simple but that's because they are meant to be interactive rather than story based.
The difference between the Wii and he other 2 is the interactive Joypad, majority of games are based on using that tool rather than focusing the sheer quality of the games.
Wow. Another NPD thread turned Wii-bashing gimmick. I'm surprised. . .
Seriously, why do you guys even care? You know what the cold hard fact of the matter is? All of you, every damn "hardcore" gamer could abandon Nintendo today and they can shrug it off as if nothing ever happened. They don't need us. They are fast becoming as mainstream as the iPod and there is nothing you can do about it.
I love Nintendo, and I like my Wii. But for the love of god, even I want them to fail now simply so I won't ever have to listen, read, watch, or even smell another one of these threads again.
Enough is enough. . .

No one really bashed on the Wii, people said they prefer the 360/PS3 over the Wii(Not a bash), I said people still call it a gimmick and shouldn't because of the number of sales(Not a bash), others say how some games on the Wii seem slapped on last minute and somewhat gimmicky.(Not a bash)

I don't really like consoles at all (I sold my virtually unused Nintendo DS and I'm working on selling my PS2 -- which will leave me with an NES and an SNES), but I must say the Wii is probably my favorite. Why? I view consoles as party games or hanging out with friends. The Wii seems to be the universally most popular console for this purpose. (if it wasn't for games like Guitar Hero, I think it would COMPLETELY dominate).
If I wanted to play single-player or multiplayer online games, I'll always stick with a PC. A gaming PC may be the more expensive hobby, but it has thousands of features in comparison to a console. I stick with middle-of-the-line builds and I'm generally satisfied. I don't have any games I want to play that I can't and I only have to spend around $1000 every two years.
And anyone that thinks FPS or RTS games are better on console than PC, I have to ask that you stab yourself in the face. Do it for the children... they're our future.
The modern MMORPG is simply not worthy, of the acronym RPG. The straight grind and lack of atmosphere leave me with no choice. From this day forth, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and all the games like them shall be referred to as PIGCRAP. People In Guilds Constantly Raiding And Power-leveling
i dont believe any of those charts ... i refuse to believe 110 k game boy advances have been sold in the last month i mean who the hell still buys those yet alone uses them? and then they beat the ps3 and psp sales cmon...
Jesus christ, the gimmick argument again? You guys are pathetic, truly. I expected Methanes thread to raise the ire of fanbois because of the high Nintendo sales which is why I stood out of the thread this whole time, and, well....actually to be honest I did expect some of you to start grasping at straws once again, aka the gimmick argument.
Odds are the PS3 will "win" this generation once again in the LONG run, but not without Nintendo accomplishing its goal, which it has been flawlessly so far, and has also been drawing people away from the 360 and PS3. Its going to come down between the Wii and the PS3, Microsoft has apparently ran out of ideas, and just pissed away every dime of profits the 360 has given them due to that billion dollar warranty thing, so I see them doing nothing but Milking Halo 3 for about a year and putting out nothing during that time.

I agree with Kel, it seems like you guys are having a one-way argument with no one on the other side.
This time I have my doubts.
Nintendo Wii, will be the winner of this generation.
The reasons:
-It is much cheaper
-Its customer base is much bigger (any age any sex)
-it is different, definetly not the conventional game console.
Wii is not a static console where u sit down on the sofa and play the latest state of the art graphic extravaganza.
Most of the games, you have to stand up and move with the joypad.
Not the most cutting edge of the games, but they work.
Wii is not the classic console which appeal normal console players, it is more like a softcore entertaining system for all the family, not just for the game nerd.
Also PS3 is too far behind with sales and the price is not going down enough.
When PS3 will have a price more affordable, I bet Microsoft will have launched the next generation of Xbox.
My personal opinion is that Sony misunderstood the console market, they packed the PS3 with expensive features that people basically don't really need, making it a bit too costly for the average gamer.
Buying a PS3 now is like buying a second PC, but with less games for it.
I for once have no intention to buy the PS3 even if it comes down in price.
I bought PS1 and PS2, but this time I ll pass on it.
I am seriously thinking of buying a Wii, a good alternative to my powerful PC which can play better games than the PS3 (and more).
