Why is this game's graphics rated 9.9 ? They sux

I don't get it, why is this game's graphics rated so highly ? Totally pissed that I bought this game based on reviews from this site argh. It looked like diablo 2. Yes I had all eye candy turned up, my video card is an ati 9800xt 128mb card so its not my problem... its the game. I'd hate to see what players here think a bad game looks like. Want to see good graphics, check out SWG. No way this piece of garbage should have anything above a 4 for score.

did you ever even play AC2?? Even the bashers here that have played it will say that the graphics are pretty good. I'm not saying it deserves a 9.9 but a 4?? NO WAY!!

Odds are you probably didn't install the high-res file if you downloaded the trial (available here). Without the high-res file the game isn't too stunning. If you installed using the AC2 retail CD's you still need to do a little trick to install the high-res files, you have to check custom install when you first install the game. If you decide to retry the graphics with the high-res files, the bad thing is you will have to redownload all of the updates, and the high-res updates are huge and it will take quite a while even on a high speed connection. The graphics are well worth it though. Two years after it's release they are still pretty close to top of the line.

Very strange, I've never heard of any game ever where there were different graphics based on some added file. No, I hadn't downloaded that (trying now), but yes I played the game for a few hours. Looks like Horizons to me, only servers are more empty. Not too confident I'm still gonna like a game that has to use some add-on file to improve graphics. I will give it a shot though, not much else to play till the end of summer.

Why is this game rated lower than AC1 by the way ? Aren't games suppose to improve with later additions ?

The high rez file is usually an install option from the CD's for the bought boxed game. Its there for high end PC users to enjoy. Its given as an option is the extra install disk space/file size of it. Plus AC2 revolves around a monthly patch system. If you install the high rez pack the monthly patches are alot larger as you download the high res new graphics introduced - hence would be a bad move for someone on dial up.

Ac2 suffered from a bad, early launch and is still recovering every month. Very different game from Ac1.

For me, AC2 isn't as vivid as AC1. The landscape, characters, and monsters in AC2 are all pretty similar. There is so much color and variety in AC1. Also the AC2 landscape feels empty compared to AC1, there aren't as many monsters running around. Which leads to the one of the best things in AC1, the ability to fight tons of monsters at once. Players in AC1 are tanks and you can solo most things. Though don't get me wrong, there are times that you need a group but a lot of the time you can get by fine solo.

Eh dude, you are incorrect. Check out the screenshots in the url's in my signature.

(All you AC2 lovers are going to be horrified by what I'm going to say next lol! But hey, I stick to my guns when I say I'm all about making sure missinformation gets stomped on!)

The graphics in AC2 ARE SO superb, modern, next generation, and incredible. Admriker444 is very obviously lying when he says he had all settings turned up and still thinks AC2;s graphics sucks LOL! Either he enjoys being a liar, or he is a multi-account made at this site to on purpose get others (like me) to show support AC2's graphics.

But anyway, bottom line - the graphics in AC2 are new, modern, current, and of the next generation of MMORPGs. The graphics in AC2 deserve to be rated a 10 IMHO. In the SAME generation as SWG, EQ2, Lin2, etc... etc....

I am talking ONLY about the graphics though. And what are you doing buying a game based on graphics only? Especially a MMORPG which has an intended shelf life of 5 years? Gameplay and game features should be looked at first. Eyecandy and graphics quickly get old in a few months. Last item, no one should buy any game based only on game reviews at 1 game site. Browse 3 to 8 game sites and check out what everyone says about the game your thinking about. Also it IS about the fun you personally have. If you feel you are intrested in a certain game, play it yourself. Do not go only by what others say. Hey, I still play Runescape because it is a fun game to me. Even though many make fun of how old the graphics in it are heheh.

Uh youve lost your mind, the graphics are pretty decent. Not a 9.9 but not a 4 either.

The landscapes are excellent, but the avatar models aren't very good, and yes i have everythin g turned up...

Reminds me alot of Horizons actually. Anyone else think that?

The graphics aren't quite the best anymore. However, you have to consider when the game was released in December 2002 the graphics were so much better than anything out there. That's why they still hold up against games being released today and that's why people are still rating them 10 to 9.

Definately the best graphics of any game I've seen. Even on lower settings it beats the vast majority of pc games.

And also guys... Look at MMORPGs the only reason they dont have superior graphics then some of the other games is because of the content. That is why they made a big deal about Lineage 2, it didnt have great graphics like u people that only care about graphics. But for all the information a MMORPG has it is ranked far superior then any Halo or FarCry

I have played most every MMORPG out there.

For me, AC2 graphics are second to none.

Often times I just crank the graphics to maxx, mount up and just enjoy the scenery in awe.

AC2 had a lot of issues at launch since Micorsoft didn't want to really do any updates for this game. Since Turbine bought it back there's been huge updates and the game's being revamped everyday.

To bad I can't play the trail, every name I try to use [even new ones I've made on Hotmail] the game will ask me to put a serial number in. I might of double clicked the full version, but I format all the time so it shouldn't be saved in my reg...

The graphics are next to none, they are awesome...

Djin I had that same problem with the trial where when I started it , it would ask for the serial. The problem is that you just have to start the game with the AC2 Free Trial executable , not the Launcher one. I have my desktop icons turned off and so I turned them back on and found the AC2 Free Trial launcher right there lol.

I tried out the free trial of this game and I gotta agree, the graphics really aren't all that good. Maybe when the game first came out they were decent but I think they're pretty mediocre now and the character models are just hidiously ugly.

i agree with allya'all that's why i'm buying the retail box on ebay. cause even on very high in the normal version it SUCKS the landscapes are unfinished.

I am suprised to see people say the graphics look like HZ... I played that through beta and a few months into retail.. If your AC2 is looking like HZ, something is not right... Even on my secondary computer playing on medium settings with NO High-def installed the graphics are way better in AC2... Perhaps people are just being dramatic

But I do agree that the High-def install is the way to go. Hopefully they get the High-def free trial up soon.

The art work just isn't very good IMO and I think that's the same problem others are having as well. It has noting to do with the engine itself it's just the quaality of art work.
