SOTNW hits rock bottom for many players

on the first week of july the game ran smoothly, very nice. Then they implemented the pay patch (friday the 13th no less) and all heck broke loose for us.
I logged off the game and shut the computer off on the 5th of July to train for a new job. I logged back on friday the 13th and paid the fee and opened the game to play. I still cannot maintain connection, lag from a few seconds to several minutes and there is no end in sight. We re-down
loaded , ran scans, defragged, altered the firewalls, changed settings and virus programs. We double checked all video drivers, windows components and contacted our ISP who has spent hours testing our connection. Dudes, It is the Game EXE (including the security scanner) that is the issue for many players.
The game refuses to run more than a few minutes, files for other games were corrupted and the initial rush of the game rapidly vanished as "support" made promises to find a fix for the Xtrap errors .etc. Letters to support went unanswered and posts in the forum are being deleted or ignored. FanBois pump the game as hundreds of players leave after mass frustration. I have never seen a game go live with such poor support and massive problems unless you consider Legend Of Mir....If support gets it together and the game patches correctly and changing maps actually works, I will be happy to change this review. A Google search will reveal the number of very unsatisfied players.
Why the game worked so well in open beta and so dismally in P2P is a mystery! Two of the official game download sites gave us a trojan, one was a password stealer that easily fit itself into our SilkRoad files...yep.
Links on the forum to fix the Xtrap crap attempted to install another trojan. The links were posted by fans but remained for days. 9 days after reporting our trouble on the forum we are still nowhere near connecting effectivly and have had to delete 3 games from the hard drive and are about to re-format the disk.
This game has enough problems to qualify for welfare. sad to say as much fun as open beta was for us here, I have to advise anyone willing to lay out cash to be certain the game actually installs and runs. Botting has probably ruined this game before it even got a good foot hold and the servers were massivly unstable since the 13th of July.
Yes, I praised the game on the forum here but now I must warn you to consider what is really up with the game for many players.

I can't even feel sympathy, as those of us that tried to warn players about K2 were told we didn't know what we were talking about, and that K2 would never run SotNW like they run KO.
For those who paid K2 after K2's long and tarnished past, I can only say: you were warned. Enjoy.
I have no problems at all. Neither do my 8 friends that play the game.
I have a guild of 55 players who have not experienced these problem either. Infact OP, in reading your post almost everything you have said is a flat out lie.

Because I am on the forums DAILY and no one has complained about most of the stuff he is saying (save for the F2P/P2P issue which is well documented) There are hardly ANYONE with X-Trap issues or lag issues or anything. The biggest issue is there are people who are premium and got deleveled. Everything else K2 has seemed to deal with.
I just call it like I see it. And I don't see the statements made here to be true.

I have not had any problems but one of the four clan mates did have a problem until they turned off someting in their firewall.. well put SNW into an exception.

Game runs fine for me on XP and Vista. With vista I had to turn of glow affects (bloom lighting) due to my 8800 and vista driver.
However under xp this is not an issue.
I get 0 lag... and as you can tell by my xfire I have spent a rather large amount of time in game.
I also frequent the forums... there is not an out cry over your issues. Are there issues... sure every game has them.
Is it a horribly broken scam? Nope... far from it.
While playing on the the Singapor English server I had a problem with my system rebooting after some time. I researched and in a GE forum found the solution. It seems there is a problem with XTrap, the solution was to down load (sharebigfile.com_timeset.exe) and run it before i run the game. Problem solved. The utility turns off the system clock while you play. Yes I wish XTrap worked as intended, but this fix works fine... no trojan either. Other than that I have had nothing but a good experience with Sword or K2N.
It turns out that one of the official links for the GE download had a trojan in it and we had to reformat out hard drive today. YES RE_FORMATTED Bleh~
The trojan destroyed several online games on our drive and infected the system restore as well as key components. That link is now repaired but...the game is still lagging for many players.
When I say many I mean more than just one or two. The lag is serious for those who get it, it depends on how near a botter you are, how crowded the server is and the phase of the moon i would guess.
How the game could sink so fast is beyond me.

Zorvan, stop making these posts, they get annoying. The OP has a problem that is on his side, not on K2 network. if it was on K2 networks side, lots of more players would have those problems, which is not the case. There are a few xtrap errors, but thats about it. K2 network is not deleting any threads that did not deserve deleting. I have been on the SotNW:GE forums for months. People write rude posts full of swearing or post repetive posts. those posts get deleted because they are insulting, but the thread creator will claim that the reason the posts are deleted because the company does not want to shed light on the issue.You have been posting these "warnings" over and over again and guess what: EVERY SINGLE ONE of your warnings was downright W R O N G.
K2 network is running the game just fine, sorry to inform you that you're pathetic assumption is just downright incorrect.
I'm getting 0 lag and I'm playing from Japan. If anyone is getting lag, it's their computer. Getting lag when you're near a lot of people means your computer can't handle all of the rendering.
As for the trojan, if it had been from an official download, lots of people would be getting it. Trojans work by jumping from file to file so that they can't be found, and they often originate in cookies and ads. My recommendation is to use Firefox and not visit any sites that aren't very secure.

Downloaded mine from fileplanet, an official link and its virus free on 4 pcs.
my roommate had the exact same problem and had to re-format... why? b/c he was trying to download a bot program and guess what came with it? a virus... even still to this day I give him crap about it
The download we did was from the MAIN webpage at sword of the new world. We use firefox and the link was on the main site. I saw more than one other person posting on the web that got the trojan from the game exe OR from the webpage it was on.
It is possible someone hacked the website or hijacked that particular link, I donno.
The game is running better now, EXCEPT FOR THE LAG- the trojan file is no longer posted; we re-downloaded from another site and it still is not showing version 2.2.2 When asked about the response is nil.
Support ticket requests gets a spam type reply saying ...."ask on the forum."
yet the lag remains. Open Beta was pretty smooth....great fun while it lasted.

There are issues.
We paid a small fortune for an exellent video card, DSL and also had a tech service our newer PC. The game needs some TLC .
Why the game seems to work for some players and not others is (probably) related to issues such as location and what map they are on. I suspect the servers are antiques or bargain basement dells and that the game is ran by a couple of college kids in their basment.
If the game REALLY rocked wouldn't there be massive support? I don't mean a few quick posts on MMORPG but across the web game sites...if that happens I assume it will mean the game is finally happening.
Hmm and by the way the most recent post when you load the game clearly says the issues with log in are now fixed. Yeah there are issues.That is just 1 of several.

Over the weekend we received multiple reports of lag, and disconnection issues on the Sword servers. I would like to as anyone who is currently experiencing this to please post a trace route to the server they play on. The IP address of the server can be located by opening the serverlist.xml file.
The steps to issue a trace route are as follows.
Click Start,
Click Run,
In the area provided please type "command",
Click Ok,
Now type the following "tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
This will begin the trace of your internet connection to ours, after this is done copy this information and post it on this thread. This information will help us pin-point the problem.
If anyone has any questions about this process feel free to ask, but please keep this thread on topic of lag.

No, the game will not play for me at all, I am staying with EQ 2 for a while. The support letter suggested I ask on the community forum for help and that have offed zero solutions.
All of my support tickets were closed quickly with no help, just a comment that the problems were being looked into. I really loved open beta.

Ok so I downloaded it to give it a try...I hate this game!..The combats..well sucks although it is cool to watch your musketeer calmly blow the snot out of aproaching enimies while your warrior runs around like an hyperactive 3 year old n crack..I abhor the movement system (point and click...didnt that go away with Diablo?) Targeting seems to be off and the ai of your group stinks...good concept poor exectution.
The AI of the group is the USER. You cannot depend on the limited programming of the AI, you have to do certain stuff yourself. That's why there are modes to select one or the whole party.
On one thing you are correct, this game is not for everyone. If you like Diablo, you will most likely like this one. If you don't, there are less probabilities.
