    Heya

Well, after playing GW and WoW for too many years, I'm finding this game to be a breath of fresh air and quite fun to boot. Excellent community with a brilliant crafting system. You get to put together your own spells too.

It's not a shop game where the power of you character is determined by the amount of RL money you have.

Well, I started playing a week or so ago and have had no problems finding people willing to help. One person actually took me on a tour of one of the main cities and showed me around. I repeat: Excellent community!

the sandbox style of gameplay also means that there really isnt a single determining level which seperates a new player from a vet.

he may have a higher harvesting level, but you could have equal crafting levels, giving you something in common to do together

The best armor and items are crafted by players ingame.  Since every item has the crafter's name in the description, it is a matter of pride to have the best items out there. Plus there are a multitude of different recipes (patterns) for making each of the items.

There are 4 different skill trees:  Fight, Magic, Crafting and Harvesting

You can choose to level in one or in all, everything depends on how you want to play.

There are two great websites out there, with a lot of information on the skill trees and items:

    http://ballisticmystix.net/

    http://ryzom.raum.com/

Check them out, and have fun on Ryzom.

Game is worth a try. It is not quest driven so if you are into that, you will be disappointed. Best community...helpful and friendly, so don't be afraid to ask questions in Uni Chat or Region. OH yeah, soloing is possible on the island but gets extremely difficult once on mainland so ask for groups on the island to start to meet people to play with later on. Hope you have as much fun as most of us do.

Soloing is quite possible in game aswell.

I mean that you don't have to join a guild if you don't feel like it. You don't have to join a faction either. You can easily find people willing to sell you stuff and willing to show you around or hunt some hardcore mobs with you. Until you become fully self sufficent which takes approximately a year :)

I know a few players who did exactly that and still remain unguilded after a couple of years of play.

It's up to you to determine what level of soloing fits your playstyle - a sologuild as member of a large alliance can be pone of them for example

Greetings, I was one of the beta testers for Ryzom but quit in disgust after the patch that made practically every action in game kill the player.

So questions that needs to be asked:

    1. Does harvesting still try (mostly succeeds) to kill the player?

    2. Has a conning system been added instead of having to have a color chart sitting next to your computer to know what color is dangerous to your current level?

    3. How many times in the past year have you logged in only to be killed by a GM event in town?

    4. Trivial Question: Are the races still Pug-ugly???   Not important, but boy were they ugly.

I was thinking there were a few more "problems" that came about after launch that did not go over well with me but these questions are off the top of my head.  I left because i was spending 75% of my in game time...dead.

Any answeres to the above? Be interested to know as i had a similar experience, but would like to give it another go now im over my wow addiction.

    1. One of the best features of Ryzom, a harvesting that actually requires some skill and knowledge to accomplish.

    2. Do you think this statement requires an answer?? If you needed a color chart... rofl

    3. So you lived most of your time in towns? Pity, the world is really huge.

    4. You are right... we all missed elves, dwarves and paladins.... oh how i wish them in game!!!

If you like easy games, go play easy games. And don't forget to turn 'godmode' on.

I will take that as a "Yes"

Not sure what to say here since you did not answer my question.  So will make it a easier question: "Has the standard Grey/Green/Yellow/Red/Purple (or similar) conning system been added?  When game came out, each level range had a color (all level 1-6 were pink, all 7-10 were fushia... etc) I do not have my chart anymore, so those colors were made up... just to clarify."

    3. So you lived most of your time in towns? Pity, the world is really huge.

You had to log out in town if you liked actually being alive when you logged back in.  I loved how spawns wandered way outside their spawn points.  Gave Ryzom a more realistic feel.

There is a BIG difference between "Easy" and "Impossible"  Ryzom was at the impossible level when I left.  I loved this game, I was even a writer for one of the big Fansites, so it was a great sorrow when I left.

Does harvesting kill you all the time?

Nope, as long as you know how to harvest then it can be as straight-forward or as complx as you would like. want it challenging then dig in PR, wnat it easy then do desert forage. ;)

Is there stil a stupid colours scheme.

essentially, yes,. but its MUCH clearer now

The colours scheme is green->blue->yellow->orange->red->purple. but the colours IS NOT relitive to your current level. Each colour has between 1->5 stars each representing a level (or aproximate) however, no chart is needed, as when you rest your mouse over the mob colour it will say what level the mob is. So if its level 158 and you're only level 96 in melee and 125 in elemental magic, use magic ;)

    GM events in towns etc?

Less events happening right now. the wandering spawns you mentioned will only affect you if you log out near agro spawns (I.E 100m) but in 90% of atys you will only have to walk 200m tops to get to a secure place. (generally speaking if you log out near non-agro mobs the most agro you will face is 1 when loggin in, but if you were in that zone, you should be able to kill it easy. Plus we're talking rare cases) Either that or teleport to an alter, as they are safe zones. no need to run back to towns all the time :)

    ugly homins?

www.ryzom.com under 'lore' look up the races, and you'll see what they look like.

Ryzom is far from impossible. Although this is all relitive. The majority can get 250's easy enough. best way to find out would be to resub.

oh, and to add. The game has come a long long long way since beta ;)

Hey, I did not call it stupid. LOL    Devs were working on a "easier" system about the time I left, which is how I took my 1st answer i got, that he joined after devs changed it.

    Thank you for answers.

PS. yes, they are quite ugly in comparison to most MMORPG on the market, but that was another thing that set SoR apart from them.

Sorry, actually i misunderstood the 'tone' of your post. It appeared to me just a rude post at a game that you actually don't know. (because many peeps in the past just wrote crappy things at ryzom only because the game is not easy as their prefereed mmo). So I apologize for my sarcasm.

I didn't played beta, but i'm playing ryzom since december 2004 (2 month after official release). personally i never found hard the color system in game. What you really need to learn in game is the mob you are going to hunt. Any mob has weakness and strength, so in example, you can easy kill solo a 'purple 1*' arma (formerly lvl 200+) with a melee skill at 170, while is almost impossible to kill solo a 'purple 1*' kincher (still lvl 200+) with the same skill.

Ryzom is more about knowing the ecosystem, not just selecting a target and if the level is comparable then kill it. If you don't pay attention also at lvl 250 you can be killed by lower mobs.

Ryzom is more dinamic in this sense and for this reason many people find it hard. You don't need any color chart, except the color range, but you need to know the ecosystem.

Consider that probably during beta nevrax was testing the invasion mechanic, then the overwhelming of deadly kitins. Actually the game is far less dangerous than in the past (but still is dangerous). You can easy logout out of towns today. Also there are many tribe camps where you can find a good rest place (and some help too), you just need enough fame with the tribe.

About harvesting... uhm i think last time i was killed by a source node was one year ago. When you do it right, harvesting is the only skill (with crafting too) you can do non-stop, i mean no downtime at all

About races, my previous post was sarcastic. I like the diversity of ryzom.

I think if you loved the game, then you have to return here. I'm sure you'll find a very good environment and a great community to stay with.

Ah... don't forget to turn 'godmode' off before the login (now, joking)

I still have not located my disks yet, I know they are in a box somewheres.

But if no beta invites come this month I will definitely log in for a month and see what has changed.

I believe I was 150 in most skills on the "tree-hugging" race.  The Tryker homeland was not finished at launch (at least the wandering mobs were missing) so I was not able level one and I always hated deserts.

Zwildiris, it may no longer be advised to try and install from your original disks. There has been a fair few changes made to the client that should ensure downloading and patching works out easier. You can download the small installer, which should be around 600Mb iirc, log on to a new character on SIlan and explore the new starter island while the game downloads and patches the rest. Otherwise you may be in for a huge download, with those old copies of yours. Possible, just not something I would advise.

Playing on Silan would be a great way to refresh your memory. there's lots of new things since beta (and early release) and Silan is one of the Gem's.

Anyways downloading would probs be quicker.
