I made a similar topic back in 2006 where we had the same situation, NO GOOD MMOS. Now with being AoC pushed back to 2008 it seems 2007 will be the same thing. I highly doubt Potbs, G&H are going to be released this year either.
It is good that developers take more time for their games, however you are pretty much screwed when you can't stand todays mmos (I did like some and played them for years, but I need something new other then a hardcore space mmo and EQ clones). Now some people might say "get a life and go outside"......well how long am I supposed to go outside? 2 or 3 years? When can I come back and finally play a good and fresh mmo again?

So bored of mmorpgs these days they're all the same hmm.... Wheres our Gears of War quality blockbuster? Or Atleast give us SWG pre cu lol.
Though War maybe DAOC 2 but i dont care, really want something new and since ive never play RvR before, its cool.
RIP Orc Choppa
RVR has been done before :S It just means faction vs faction where Mythic have just gave it some fancy name to make it sound better than it really is. If you played games likw WOW for example then you've played this so called fantastic "RVR" lol...
Translation: I AoC and it got pushed back now this year sucks because AoC didn't come out and its the only good MMO.
Thread over.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

DAoC offers the following that WoW does not:
Siege Warfare
Player Crafted gear as the best gear in the game
Siege Warfare for all levels in their own BG's
BG's without a population cap on them
3 Realms
Several times the Races than WoW offer
A multitude more classes than WoW offers
Class diversity
WoW offers us that DAoC doesn't:
Controlled BG enviroments
World PvP
Instanced Raids
Loot focused game mechanics
Big flashy armor
Better UI
Extremely Polished game that can run on all systems
So as you can see, the two games are hardly alike and WAR will bring something new to the genre. Maybe not 100% new, but a game with a lot of new features or features that haven't been done to death. I am no fan of WAR either, and actually don't plan on playing the game. I just had to call you out on this one, because you aren't being fair here.
MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW
Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.
I had the same feelings about WAR being a WoW clone but after I got into beta my feelings changed. (quickly)
While I cant go into details (NDA) I will say people are going to like what WAR has to offer.
Kordesh
Erm, I am not an AoC fan and I don't plan playing it when it comes out. I am waiting for Potbs and WAR, more mmos then I need.
you fail
Well............why does it need to be something brand new with you guys all the time?
Try the following
Ryzom - free trial has just about anything an MMO should have including player made content.
Anarchy Online - free base game. New expansion just released with mechs
Asheron's Call - Classic greatness. This could keep you busy for years
Final Fantasy XI - definately not an EQ clone
Planetside - persistant FPS action (I don't know if there is a free trial for this lately, there use to be)
If you give these an honest try, they could keep you busy for a very long time. Give these guys time to make the new MMO's and maybe we won't end up with more crap like Vanguard.
Enjoy the different and the classics not the clones.
If you hate mmos so bad moostown why the heck do you play them anyway, stop complaining about how awfull a game is, plus wait for fallen earth and infinity quest for earth there are 2 games gonna be worth trying.

my hope is placed in PotBS... it should be released this year. ppl are not done feeding us the same crap. they will continue to make crappy MMOs for a while i'm sure.
die.
"Now some people might say "get a life and go outside"......well how long am I supposed to go outside? 2 or 3 years? When can I come back and finally play a good and fresh mmo again?"
You said it so you must have already considered the option. I used to be a MLB fan, no longer the case. I'm better off without it.
While 2007 might have been a bad year, it did offer a few highly anticipated releases: Vangaurd and LOTRO.
You can debate the failures or lack of it for a year. The year is not over and maybe POTBS will be released this year and might be a decent game. At least 2007 was better than 2006.
I have high hopes for WAR and AOC, but they could be flops as well. With all of MMOs due out in 2008, at least one should help make it better than the past few years. Have hope.
don't know about potbs but I follow gods and heroes very closely and it definetly looks like it will be out in october or november. They are sending out tons of beta keys now and I would expect open beta to start in around a month so that should be a good one. At least good enough to hold you over till aoc or war come out in 2008. Its something kinda different with the minions and being set in rome.......and probably great expansions also.
You like those games only because you prolly played them when they came out. A bunch of those were good, for their time, but now they all suck so bad... Ryzom and Asheron's Call are ancient and ugly , planetside is just a horrible...HORRIBLE game , and Anarchy Online and FFXI were good but they haven't aged well at all. Who cares if games nowadays take from older ones? Name a game that doesn't. lol. I seriously don't recommend that anyone play any of those games. All your needs could be met by a game coming out if you have patience. Besides, isn't anticipation half the fun?
+ Vanguard was a rare case of total suckage. Sigil bit off WAAAAAY more than they could chew.

Darkfall: December or vaporware!
I wouldnt say bad year unless one is the type of person looking for the next big game and then will dismantle and move onto the next bigger newer game like the jones'es trying to keep up on the prized rose garden of there neighbors, New and exciting upcoming things this year , cov/coh had a cool free xpac the ritki invasion, eq2 is having the rise of kunark (which i am highly anticipating), wow is releasing the lich king thing, hardly a dull year. Now if one could revive earth and beyond i would be happeir than a pig rutting up the jones'es pri
playing eq2 and two worlds

This man speaks the absolute truth!
The reality is that our expectations as gamers far exceed what is possible for a mass appeal game. There is a lot of originality out there but most of us wouldn't even try it so why would a developer risk millions on something completely original? They would have to be driven by someone with a vision, the money to back it up and the luck to hit the scenario that would satisfy enough folks to be successful. Or as I heard once and love to quote badly when talking about the strange beasts gamers are: We have met the enemy and they are us.
What the fuck are you even doing here!?!
If you despise the genre so damn much, if you obviously have such little respect for the developers, and such low expectations for their products, why the FUCK would you spend your time on a website devoted entirely to precisely these things? Is your life so bleak that you go out of your way to deride something you have no interest in?
What really blows me away is that you speak with such pompous authority about things you obviously have no fucking clue about. You clearly know jack shit about Tabula Rasa, God's and Heroes, Age of Conan, or Warhammer. You, like the vast majority of the people here, have not played them and clearly have no intention of doing so... So I ask you, where the fuck do you get off on this?
How do you kill that which has no life?
Do NOT compare DAOC to WoW. DAOC' RvR is NOTHING like WoW's version. Nothing. It was much more fun and exciting, period.
This guy doesnt know jack
Lol yeah... they're all the same if you keep playing the ones that you keep being attracted to. You know, fantasy games where you have to level up to a maximum level. As long as you refuse to try anything else you'll keep saying the same thing. There are plenty of original games out there.

well isnt the expantion to WOW bring siege warfare? and other and other things to help out wow pvp?

Respect??? Your looking for "Respect" on a gaming based forum....er hell any forum??? There is no respect these days with the internet. Everyone has authority that can type and spell somewhat correctly. Authority? ?? Who gave this guy or even you to boost your authority or hell even me? Oh, yeah and he has every right to be on this website as you do and me. SO STFU!
I'm waiting on WAR. Nothing else looks interesting. If WAR sucks, then oh well, no MMORPGs for me.

This man speaks the absolute truth!
Well for the mostpart thats all opinion except for:
"Vanguard was a rare case of total suckage"
You guys new to MMOs or something? Rare form of suckage? name me some winners out of the dozen or so MMO launches in the last 3 years aside from WoW GW and LotR.
The opposite is the truth. Maybe you are referring to timeless classics that are not "total suckage" like Dark and Light, Irith online, Roma Victor, Auto Assault, Phantasy Star Universe, DDO, RF online....shall I continue?
A good MMO is a rare find.
I agree totally here.
Further, I also think every year has yielded pretty much the same results dating back to the beginning of this genre moving to the 3d format. It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.
If your expectations aren't met for a game you hyped yourself up to play, it becomes that monkey on your back that died from your secondhand smoke. You lost your closest and best friend while retaining your addiction to smoking.
When that happens it automatically tells me what type of person that is, a demanding, half empty glass type of person. To be honest, IF NO GAME MEETS YOUR NONREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS, you could always do one of two things:
1. Make the MMO you want yourself. (not likely)
2. LEAVE THE GENRE, it's not for you.
Why? Because if you continue to have these crazy expectations, you are never going to be satisfied. While they are making games for the populace, gaming companies have limits to what they can achieve. It's their vision for you, not the other way around. Play what they brought to the table or don't play at all. Granted money is involved, your money...but hey,
you gotta be realistic.
You know what kind of critic I just can't stand, the sports broadcaster type. You know what I mean, the guy who has nothing good to say about an athlete. Always bagging on him like, he's ffin trash, he should be on the bench. Come to find out that the broadcaster has never played the game. I hate those type. Don't know why.
While I want more, I personally am not disappointed with the myriad of excellent MMO's out. This span F2P, P2p, and BF2p. I'm shit, they are friggin video games. I'm a gamer. The only time I truly am like wtf, is if the bugs outway the fun. Hmm, I'm easily pleased I guess. It's not life or death to me. Speaking of gaming in general, some games may not get a second play from, but as a gamer I hope to try them all. I just don't have the time or money for it.
