I would love to see a survial horror mmo

I would love to see a survial horror. Have a huge city like COH COV has and put zombies and science exspearments gone horably wrong and maybe  some demons. It could have 2 majior factions trying to take over the city, a umbrella like company and then have a cult whos trying to bring an ancent god back.  The players would be normal people who decided to take beck there city. There could be classes like Cop, Medic, Mercenary,Reporter, and Civilan. The locations could be normal places you find in any city a mall , schools, apartments, ect.

I think it would be a cool idea and nice change from the Tolken like worlds we keep getting handed from every other mmo on the market.

If god loves the fools ,and god loves every one, dose that mean we are all fools.

Funcom's 'The Secret World' is about as close as I've seen to anything like this.

Well they do have something of the sort. It's called Resident Evil: Outbreak and Resident Evil: Outbreak File #2. I've never played them, but IGN gave them mediocre reviews 7.6 and 6.5 respectively. They sounded sweet before they came out, but Capcom just didn't deliver like they did with RE4.

Well it would be cool to play Resident Evil like MMO

No Resident Evil Files was a game where you where in a lobby and waited for some one to do the same mission you where on and hope you found two or three others who didnt suck or could work well with others. Im meaning a more open world where you could explore and get contacts to saze your city. Secret World is the right idea. I dont think Resident Evil would not make a good mmo.

Yeah, I totally agree with you... A game like this would be totally awesome...

A big city like you said infested with zoombies and other monsters very hard to kill and you with only a small gun or something like that and maybe alone, it would be very cool for a game to have some kind of radio-chat system, so you must charge your Radio and the battery lasts a few hours before runs out or something like that so if you find another person in the game you would really want to stick with him and group together as long as you can, etc.

    Wallo =)

These are pretty much the only screenshots available from The Secret World, there are concept art images though which you can find here.

Dude, that is freaking brilliant! I would so play that game. Your spelling leaves a little to be desired, but you still may be a genius. Why the hell hasn't someone made that game yet? I mean, Left 4 Dead is coming out soon, but it's a FPS with multiplayer. Not really what you are talking about (although I am chomping at the bit to play that damn game, too.)

The Secret world looks pretty cool, too. Little more Call of Cthulu-espue then what I was thinking, but it may be a little too early to say that just from the few shots.

Anyway, back to the Zombie game, I'm seeing everything taking place in a huge city. It's pretty much always after dark in the city (not sure why, but it has to be dark.) Basically, what I am thinking is like Atlanta in the first issue of "The Walking Dead". Maybe even give the game like a life span ,say 4 years or something so you can have an all around purpose (probably be a first for an MMO). You gotta try and find out why the undead are here (alien infestation, hell over flowing, virus, etc.) Man, I just don't know. There are so many possiblities. I'm going to start writting stuff down and see what looks good.

Reqieum Online will probably the next survival horror type mmo to hit US soil.  However, its also a little dated graphics wise because of its long development cycle and has steam punk influences.  I can't think of other mmos that actually tried to dedicate themselves to the horror theme.  From what I understand its an Open PVP game where at night horrors and powerful bosses spawn.

The Secret World looks to be themed more after The Longest Journey.

you mean world of resident evil

Actually, I like the idea.  The problem would be classes.  For example, I like the idea of a Harry Potter MMO as well, but when I start thinking of what classes could be in the game, it becomes limiting.  I guess creative people might find a way to work around this.

Wailing Horror Of Resident Evil would be an awesome name.

Classes wouldn't be a problem.... you could have doctors (healers), athletes/martial artists (hand to hand), cops/military (weapons), scientists ("magic"), etc.

You could also have hybrids like engineers, farmers, construction workers.

I would pay GOOD money for a MMO with zombies as the main focus!

i just played the bioshock demo today, barely heard of it before then.

that would be a good survival horror mmo lol. although... hard to translate etc...

    look a zombie!

    Resident evil online would rock!

btw, now that i think of it... Fallen Earth comes pretty close to being a horror survival game!

  • BigdavoBigdavo Member UncommonPosts: 1,863

I can't stop staring at your sig.

But yeah survival horrow sounds pretty cool, you could have instances like haunted mansions, that lead to basements/dungeon/secret necromancy lair/minion perpertrating his masters evil plan by raising the dead/leading you to new areas as part of a main quest... it's giving me ideas.

    O_o o_O

  • mokonamokona Member Posts: 51

Sorry about my spelling and grammer. it would be cool if the areas where blocked off by fallen cars or police blocks that way you dont have lvl 20 monster roaming lvl 10 areas killing everyone.  The thought I had on clases was something totaly diffrent and a change from the norm. There would be classes and profetions. Classes would be what type of damage you do. Would have tanks, dps ranged offince and ranged deffence. Profetions would be what your job would be like Cop, Reporter, Mercenary, Civilian, and maybe something ealse down the road. That way the game has a huge replay value. I would also love to multable groups in the game trying to take over the city. A magic bassed evil and a science bessed evil.

I like the idea of a Zombie game, I don't think I like the demons and cult thing that much, because that is more in the realm of magical, rather than biological/sci-fi, like zombies.

A game like that would lend itself well to class/skill hybrid, class for your starting gear and skill buffs, and skills to fine tune your character to determine what you want to be good at.

The big question is, would these be fast zombies or slow zombies

Fast zombies happen because live people contract a virus and turn into crazed barbaric humans, they move quickly but they can be killed like any other person, and it is only found in humans.

Slow zombies happen when space bacteria reanimate dead cells, it effects any species, and the only way to kill them is to damage the brain or spinal cord, or just completely destroy them.

I prefer fast zombies, because it seems more plausible and it is more scary, slow zombies are almost a joke.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

I always thought a MMO RE game would be worth a shot, honestly, the market is out there - alot of people want to turn away from your fantasy elves and orc and sword and shield rip offs...time in again its practically the same thing. Even sci fi -not much out thats actually good  except eve, but thats a different story.

Anyway back to topic. The world could be set as normal Earth with europe, america, asia etc. Now the zombie outbreak could of been trigged by numerous events that the players have to travel over the world to slowly find clues to the cause.

For example, a so called "umbrella" corporation experiments on animal behavior of curtain drugs (sorry for being cruel, but could be a story line). While then the US secret space station discovers radiation metial with special properties that trigger human behavior in the DNA. Gets brought back to the secret service where it gets "stolen" by the so called "umbrella" corp where they extract the findings to test on the animals. All seems well but it mutates the strength of them making them having easy access out of the cages - there on it goes haywire. The story could drift in numerous angels with the corporation having different fields of experiment in differeny countries making it abit more vertile to what might be going on.

In terms of classes, you shouldnt have any problem honestly - just take basics from other mmo formula.

Now i dunno about "tanks" seeing the infection usually takes place when the person gets DNA inprinted into there skin by bites, scratches or what not. Maybe this is where team work comes in - Yes it will be very likly to "force" you to group like in FFXI but thats a good thing, i like FFXI "forcing" groups, makes friends and incorperates teamwork to achieve similar goals within the group enviroment.

So i guess here is the "start" classes - There can be sub classes that can be achieved by leveling up your characters during the game.

Medic - A medic is well the "healer" class, he/she can determin a whipe or a mission accomplished by using his techniques of curing the virus infections and such from party members when bitten, helps recover the corpse's of fallen allies, protects them from various explosions and random events in the game.

Engineer - The Techi in the group, he/she has the skills to make items from random stuff that is gathered during missions ect and make them into usefull items for the group from weapons, armour and funky little items that can be used versing your enemies. He/she can also use his skills to unlock various of locked doors with the tools that you gather when you level up. (will go through the leveling up system later on).

Scientist - The scientist is the brains in the group where he uses specialized weapons and skills that they have been experimenting with over the years, he is also a useful ally combined with the medic where he can also use skills in conjunction with the medic to cause special buffs for the group.

Solider - He/she is probly the DPS in the group, having the skills in various weaponary and combat situations. He can supply the group with some addons to weaponary and various moral support buffs.

Heavy Weapons Solider - HWS is practicually the tank for the game, now he specializes in close quarters combat situations with heavy armour and strong comitment in getting the job done. He brings the group together with the strength of his armour and the ability to take severly enemies at once by annoying them - theres a better word but i just got brain dead.

Scavenger - This class is all about the money lol, he has some basic knowledge about combat with small arms and close combat also, very sneaky by causing himself to simply disapear in dark aliways, but he/she is about search and recover from areas that are being cleared or not discovered. There could be special areas in the game (secret areas) where only scavengers can find using specialized tools of uncovering equipment that is rare and unique to all classes.

These classes can be "upgraded" during the game where they can become more specialized in a specific field and become stronger and alot more unique during the game goes along.

For example, the Solider might be able to upgrade at a curtain level to specialize in AOE weaponary like Flamers, Grenade Launchers ect, while one might specialize in long range combat such as sniper rifles.

Medic might be able to upgrade to Docter, more of a dedicated healer for the group, Battle Medic, has the ability to bring abit more buffs for combat orientated groups.

Scientists could go with bio-technology, or nano technology with different types of effects that cause the enemy to do curtain things, such as dps over time, change alliance to get them attacking there own for an amount of time and so on.

Heavy Weapons Solider could upgrade to more of a Special Forces Solider aimed at doing damage, while changing to more of a armour unit.

Scavengers can well, be scavengers lol - nah, they could be upgraded to Traders, more aimed at trading with other players giving you special abilities to open shops and so forth, stalkers mainly revolve around sneaking around and taking the enemy by surprise and get special loot from hard to get places where the enemy is there by 100s.

Engineer can be upgraded to a more of a specialized creator of the arts of customization like weapons, armour, specialized technology like turrets and so forth. Hacker could inflitrate specialized areas of interest to make the missions abit easier if going a easier way that is usually locked, but the hacker unlocking the door/area for the group could have great rewards aswell.

I will continue this idea on document and hopfully it sounded good :D.

    Regards, TJ

Xen like your ideas. What I would like to do is a little like COH/COV where your job is how you deal with the story. Soldiers and Cops deal with more saving the city and civilians. Mercenarys are more about the money and getting stuff for unknow clients. Medics and Scientest are looking for cures and things they could do with the what ever it is cousing the out break.

Some of the cool zones in the game could be a school(of any grade lvl but with no children). A zoo full of fun evil or a circus. Iove all the responce from the board I been getting from the idea I had. I think I should right all this down and send it to a company and see if  they would make.

If god loves the fools ,and god loves every one, dose that mean we are all fools.

yeah mate, that sounds good - abit more movement to the story and the game itself - i understand your theory in where the classes are involved in different aspects of the game itself not just "combat group" orientated like my idea. You could start off as a civilian and go from there from progression through the game itself.

Maybe do some sort of "pre" apocalypse story aswell - where it might be 2 weeks or so before the disarster where you get the barings of the gaems mechanics. Cops do have your standard quests/missions/tasks for the city, like catch the theifs, or go through and take down some terrorists at a bank - maybe all this can be in relation of the disarster. For example, if your a cop and your missions is to take a group of three or so men with you to take down an undercover thiefs that are planning on stealing some sort of bio technology, you "fail" to take all of them down, while when you finally catch upto them you find out the technology they took disapeared - now the thiefs might be silent and sacrifice themsevles to hold the data they know. After that the game will have like a little 2 weeks after movie clip with what happends during those days and where you as the player end up hiding or holding out to finally having to take a hike and go on and survive at numerous base camps, ect.

While if your the scientist, your missions might be to protect the bio technology that the thiefs are trying to steal, but you fail due to maybe an unknown explosion accident by one of the experiments, that will let the thiefs take the goods.

While medics, once again - same "type" of mission, they might have a mission to go down to the lab where the shootings take place and help the wounded while seeing the thiefs take off, where the medics will of course do there work with helping the injurded.

Engineers for example might have to go down there and repair a malfunctioned reactor in the lab, where it accidently goes bang and thus setting off a chain reaction of the explosion causing the scientists failing at the defence of the technology, that having injured some NPCs where the medics have to come in and handle, that setting off the escape of the thiefs for the cops to hunt down.

From there after the 2 weeks you then start off and go from there.

Hmmm...interesting. I had not thought of like a 2 week training period. Could be kinda like the intro to Guild Wars but, you know, cool.

So what kind of zombies should the game have, fast or slow? Man, I just want to play this freakin game now, and it's not even a game! My mind is just racing with ideas that I can't form yet.

  • CactusmanXCactusmanX Member Posts: 2,218

Hmmm, I was thinking, you could have both fast and slow zombies, fast ones pop out at you more, slow mob you.  I am not sure how well that would work though.

If you wanted to get the more Romero feel you could do slow, if you like the feel of 28 Days Later, do fast.

Fast would be more scary, but slow ones are so classic.

This is a tuffy, I thought I prefered fast, but now I am not sure.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

  • mokonamokona Member Posts: 51

I thought the training zone could be a park or graveyard or both. As for slow or fast I would say both. Slow would be in the early part of the game when you have few attacks and not alot of ppl you know or could play with. And during the later part of the game you have fast zombies or large group of slow ones(depending on what area your in), this would make the game more balanced do to the large amount of skills and ppl you will have avalable to you.
