Hey guys I figured to give everyone a big insight on a lot of MMO's we all could give a say into why we are playing the game we are playing, I will allow non MMO's as a sub topic within your post, but try and stick to mainly MMO's, I will start off.
Current Game: World of Warcraft
Reason: I am playing World of Warcraft, for the needed time consumer, I am currently working a boring job, and just have a ton of time on my hands, the game adds a few things to your day, its not hard, you can easily jump on the game and do anything you really want to. But to the make this a little more in depth I will tell you why I like it. WoW brings a few things other MMO's don't for number one warcraft lore probably one of the best Lores I have seen in a game ever and the game follows it very very well. The game is solo and raid based petty grouping is not needed, unless you wish to instance which is no required, you can skip every bit of content just to finish the game grinding. More or less I enjoy WoW because I have nothing else to play and its not that boring of a game it just plays well.
Thats short, but to the point. Lets see what you all have to say.

I lurk in mmorpg.com forums mindlessly.
i just began playing WoW again
and i am playing it because of all the MMOs i have tried (WoW, FFXI, Runescape, DnL, RFO, Generic Asian Grind, Vanguard, Etc.) It is the highest quality, best put together, and most casual (make that Ultra-casual) friendly. People complain about the endgame, but at the speed i play, i enjoy the leveling and will probably never make i to level 70 (soon to be 80).
I'm playing wow because...
It seems to be the only updated working glitchless high populated game out there. A lot of my friends are on it too, and its fun to do arenas with them and just mess around and have a good time. Why not? There isnt any other populated game out there :P
I wish I was playing an Updated Version of Anarchy Online with a million other people. I am the only one who thinks that tho so w/e
Currently trying to get less involved in WoW. (Not gonna happen >.> )
Nylon - 70 Rogue - Dethecus US
I am subscribed to City of Villains.
In all honesty...I really like the game a LOT...but...I apparently overplay it. I dunno what more to do in that game, I have 5 levels 50 and they all have most accolades if not all, some have all the IOs set they want...I have a level 45 and 8 other characters under level 39.
I got load of good memories, tons of FUN, and the lasting taste in my mouth is kinda like chocolate which you let's melt.
CoV doesn't have enough stuff to do for a hardcore, however...I can't blame them. Is it a sin to not give enough? I take and enjoy each and everything the game has to offer me; I wish I had more, but...I can't complaint. Having 1 ounce of delicacy is better then a tons of S***, some mmos devs should learn that. Casuals are happy, and I really enjoy that. Seeing casuals players happy alone is well worth it.
I am still subscribing to CoV, and will undoubtfully restart playing, eventually...atm I am playing Beyond The Sword (Civ IV). I should try Dungeon Runners soon.

I also play another game as well since i have a lot of time on my hand. I play Systemholic Rohan on the japanese server. So why do i play it? Well i play it because the graphics are really impressive, the combat animation is something that can never stop impressing me, and the npc that delevels equipment for you is an awsome addition to an already great game.
Now i'm not playing any mmorpg, but the best for me is EVE Online, you can do many things and it has a very good gameplay. Anyway, you can't success too much in this game if you aren't in a good corporation with a foot on 0.0 for PVP or to get resources for crafting.
In fact, now i am waiting for some kind of divine intervention to find a good mmorpg, very addictive with a lot of possibilities in gameplay, such as a complex crafting system, housing... etc
PS: World of Warcraft, the best grinding / questing game. Once you are bored of it, you will be bored of: Lineage 2, Perfect World, .... well, an infinite amount of asian style games. Really is quite interesting to spend 13 euros per month to play 653636346543543 games in 1
I recently quit WoW and now play CoH/CoV after a year or so hiatus from the game. WoW is/was a lot of fun, but Blizzard is mostly developing things for endgame now instead of giving some love to the lowbies, as well as railroading you into what you can do. Their new hero classes, for example, are going to be available ONLY to players who get to level 80 and finish a quest, and even then the hero character will begin at level 68 (the level is just a guess, but they did already say they would not need to quest in Azeroth so 58-68 is a good guess). Also, the new profession is enchanting for your spells...who the heck ISN'T going to take it? I don't like that there are less and less real options being given to players with the introduction of so much high-end stuff and more powerful professions that can weaken a character who doesn't take it.
As for CoV/H, I play it because it's the only game I've done so far that has a real pet class (Mastermind). I like sitting back and watching my pets do all the work while I buff them and give them commands. And they do it well enough that it's not actually easy, since if you left your pets alone they would get squashed. I like pet classes, always have been my favorite, but most games don't do it right.
EVE Online
Reason: The game gives the player tools to create the world. This game is by no means easy and is meant to make you use your mind and strategize what you do. Being 23 years old and sick of playing games with a lot of kids (example being WoW) the community in EVE is mature and intelligent. Another main reason why I like EVE so much is the harsh death system. Without it, I probably wouldn't be playing EVE. Death in this game makes me actually CARE for what I work for. Politics, PVP, the casual friendly skill system, and the pure longevity that the world of EVE will have is going to be outstanding. This game won't be a Everquest, where you get to max lvl, complete the content - and wait for Everquest 2 to come out. EVE is in a class of its own and will always be around and just gets better with time (see link for player models in 2008 http://www.tentonhammer.com/index.php?q=node/620).
EVE can get boring from time to time, but so do all the other games. If you find a good corp with people you get along with and all play the game together, especially if you have a TS or VENT server, it really shines brighter than any other game. I can honestly say that my fellow corp members and I have felt a lot of emotions together. We've all been proud, angry, humiliated, happy and just plain laughing our asses off having a good time. You develop a real character in EVE, and a real bond with who you can trust.
Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.
Actually playing CoX and a bit of GW (but people says this is not a mmo...)
CoX(City of Heroes/Villains)
Reason: I was looking for a game to relax, to get some fun and have my "alter ego". After playing in competition for 2 years of Gw I found that City Of heroes/Villains got a great customization and the community is really nice. I usually leave the computer stressed and with the noob/lamer etc... words on my screen from gw, so, is a great change to get in a mmorpg with a funny and individual pvp or group if you want, with freedom of movement and one of the biggest customization. At least, not like wow, l2, gw... i feel that my charactar is my character, is soo extrange to find another one like you, and, people with the same archetype and pool powers, still being different cause you can configure this powers at your owns with enhancements.
Some people says it repetitives and its not good for hardcore players that get tired. I think think so, this game got a lot of possiblities but the real fun comes when y ou play in group, with massive battles, lot of enemies, and a visual delight during combat.
Also, as I love pvp (and as i said character customization) is great to feel as magneto, or wolverine to use your powers and fight flying across a city, using the movemente not only hitting 1 and 2 all the time, flying away from a building to avoid opponents blast etc...
I've been trying to beat old console and computer games that I gave up for World of Warcraft of some other nonsense at the time. Just recently canceled my money draining Warcraft (been in the level 50's since June 06') account and decided to be patient and wait for polish ultra-casual MMO's to come to me instead of reading about them or just playing trials. Might trial City of Hero's or Lords of the Rings, eh who knows it's all good currently.
Playing: Guild Wars
Reason: I like the idea behind using only 8 skills and carefully choosing the right skills. I also enjoy the PvP and the PvE aspect of the game. Not that the game feels awesome, but it's a good way to spend some time while waiting for some other game to come.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online & Star Wars Galaxies
Reasons ( DDO)
1. Group based game
2. No traveling required, therefore easy to get right to the good stuff
3. Easy to fit game time in my schedule, since you can do most things within an hour
4. Great character customization during and after character creation
5. Non-cookie cutter quests
6. Has people who like playing with perma-death rules
7. Has people willing to dedicate characters to play only with certain other characters (dedicated player groups)
Reasons ( SWG )
1. It is the only Star Wars MMO
2. Offers Player ran cities
3. Allows me to play Jedi, although the profession is broken
4. Offers the ability to be a pilot
5. Easy to RP in
6 Great character customization during and after character creation, with the exception of class diversity
7. Offers a wide selection of armor wearing ranged specialists and melee specialists
DDO is my secondary MMO; the MMO I log into to see if I can get a group. If not, I log into SWG, which I can do most things solo. I have one game that requires hardcore play and one game that can be played casually. Depending on the amount of time I have and my mood, I have two MMORPGs to select from. I typically like to sub to one Sci-Fi like MMO and one fantasy type MMO. I've changed that tradition to one hardcore MMO and one casual MMO. Hardcore defined by a game that requires a lot for normal play advancement. Hardcore games usually has many time sinks to keep people playing longer. Time sinks such as unneccessary long grinds, long traveling times, housing, and content that can't be completed within a few hours. It was either WoW, EQ2, Vanguard, LoTRO, or SWG for my hardcore time consuming MMORPG. I chose SWG since it is Star Wars and because I can do anything in that game under 3 hours of play time per night if I wanted. I chose DDO as my casual game, since the quests are good and original, and because it has a community who are willing to play with rulesets not included in the normal game rules (perma-death and dedicated teams play ).
I plan to play SWG until a new time sink MMO comes out. I plan to play DDO until I have completed all of the content in game and nothing new is on the horizon within a month. Chances are, my subscription to DDO will never stop since I play with a perma-death guild. So I may never see all of the content in the game. I will also be joining a once a week dedicated group to experience all the content in the game. Once per week might let me see all of the content in another year or more. As far as time-sink MMORPGS, it looks like Tabula Rasa is on the horizon, as is WAR and AoC.
MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW
Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.
Playing 9 dragons
Reason= Free, Can quit anytime without wasting money, I quiet like the whole kung-fu theme
Played= WoW ->Orc archer lv 75
I'm still playing SWG and it's because I enjoy the game.
The graphics are awesome, the players on my server are cool and the professions are fun.
Ultima Online - still for the best roleplaying possibilities.
World of Warcraft for the pvp & pvm that suck in Ultima Online
Er, Rebirth? There is only level 70 in WoW right now and there is no archer class, only the Hunter :P
I'm subscribed to EQ2 and VG, but I don't play much atm. And i've still AO on my computer.
I like complex PvE and a good lore, thats the reason
Everquest 2, cause it's free for two months! Fun game too.
Playing City of Villains: Why? Because I got bored of the other games I've been playing. Sure it doesn't have the greatest sound or music or even the best graphics compared to past MMO's I've played like eq2, vanguard..etc. The thing it does have that keeps me playing is the fun factor. It's just plain fun to play. Plus its something different from clerics, knights, rouges etc. Super Heroes and super villains!
Played: EQ, EQ2, Vanguard, WAR, WoW, LoTRO, CoX, CO, GW2, FFXIV: ARR, AoC, Rift, TSW, SWTOR, TERA, BnS, ESO
Not playing any because UO went soft and everything ever since has been monotonous garbage. I've been sustaining myself off of traditional twitch FPS games like FEAR and other classics like Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and Fallout 2 for the past 9 years.
If you'll notice though- most new movies, music and games in the past 10 years have largely sucked. Every venue of the entertainment industry has "remake fever," an affront to a complete and utter lack of creativity- for one example.
I'm actually playing Diablo2, Guild wars and Pentakor.
Diablo2.... no one can forget his first love. It was mi first online game, so I contuine playing from time to time. I think it's a really relaxing game, good for when you want your brain to take a holyday. You don't need a lot of thinking with this game, but evrybody needs some relax. You can even find people who loves role play here.... inceredible but true.
Guild wars... nice storyline (for pve), nice graphic and like the 8 abilities bar. Also the pvp is not that bad, I really like alliance wars, it's really a big mess but I just love it. The true flaw of this game is that no one makes some decent roleplay
Pentakor... dont' even know if you can call it a mmorpg. I discovered the italian server last december by chanche (ok I was lookin for free games:) ) and I was surprised. It's really different from all other games I saw befor. Gameplay and graphics are really simple, this game is more focused on politics and social interaction. Sure you can have duels with monsters and other players, but the most interesting part for me is the rest.... you can build villages, city etc.. but you have to find other players to do it. There are no npcs or pre set story. The players them self create evrything. On the italian server there is a lot of people makin role play and i think the structure itself of this game push this way. The international servers opened up recently (pentakor.com) and I soon made a brand new wizard.
Hmmm I think you can guess from what I wrote wich game I' addicted to
Mommy says I should play less,
Boyfriend hates my pc,
even my dog try killing my laptop...
Hould I play less?
NAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Warhammer Online & Tabula Rasa (Oh and yes, I am allowed to say I am playing them).
In addition to trying out different MMOGs for a short while to see what they have to offer and to spot features I'd like to see (or not) in new MMOGs, I play WoW on a casual veteran level (meaning I know MMOGs and WoW fairly well, but I'm not involved in raiding).
Why do I play WoW? Because it allows me to do something useful in a short time, be it the repeatable quests to get some gold, gather some crafting materials, do an instance, play a Battleground round or five, or just questing or killing with one of my characters across different levels.
Naturally, players with a less casual goal than mine - e.g. wishing to top the Arena ladder, get all the best gear, or be among the first to clear the latest raid instance - probably won't see any of the above as "useful". I dare say I have as much fun in the game as them though.
Tabula Rasa because it's really fun. Richard Garriot does it again!
