Is Sword of the New World worth downloading?

Now that SOTNW is f2p im thinking off downloading it.  Can anyone who has played this game tell me if its worth my while to download it?

I didnt like it. The control a 3 person unit thing was nifty but really the game pretty much plays itself. The UI and english localazation is horrible. Character customization is a lacking. Gold spammer have their own little channel that pops up on screen(also in the chat box) I  couldnt find anyway to /ignore them. You spend most of your time picking up items unless of course you are afk leveling which most of the people i saw were doing.

bleh no thanks and I dont recommend it.

These free games are ones you really have to try and come to your own conclusions because usually posts will either tell you to play because it's so amazing or don't because they don't find it to their liking.  Just make an account and try it out, it's a pretty big download (3 GB) so it might take a while.

the short and sweet answer: NO

it's another generic asian MMO out of the same mold. with ok looking graphics (if you are into that style) and terrible gameplay.

Gameplay design is pretty much none existant and the game caters very heavily to gold farmers. You put your own little group of 3 people together, run into the middle of lots of enemies/monsters and auto kill anything (you literally don't have to do anything if you don't want to). respawn rate is incredibly high, so you just level up standing still really.

i played it for around 3 hours, uninstalled the game and never looked back. terrible terrble terrible. (of course that is just my opinion).

He played only 3 hours, and it shows. let me just confirm ZeGerman couldn´t possibly be more wrong. only the beginning of the game is like that., you will gain roughly 4 ~ 5 x the amount of XP by actually playing the game and using your skill. this is the undeniable proof that its absolutely crucial to play a game for a reasonable amount of hours before you judge a game.

the fact he claims its another generic asian MMO should say enough about him. Yeah, you can play with 3 characters in every MMO, right? And every MMO lets your recruit NPC's, right? And that stance system, its avaible in every MMO...heh.

Ill agree that its not as bad as Zgerman made it out to be, but the community in the game is extremely poor if not non existant.

Add to this the fact that K2 is doing an abysmal job at managing the community and the game makes me feel like the singapore version that only released last week but is already a more polished version is the better bet.

I like it so far. I have played for a few hours now, and it's pretty unique. I will keep playing, but maybe the fun is gone in a while. But for now, it's great.

So, if you download the free client that they have out there, is it still capped at lvl 20, or can you keep playing indefinitely? I know there's no monthly fee anymore, but do you have to buy a license to get the full game?

I actually like the concept that you don't have to do much when you're leveling.  It's surprising some of the people here who bash the game conflict their own criticism.  Some say they hate the grind, then they say the game is too easy and you can just afk level

Unlike most of the kids who do nothing but go to school and then come home and play video games all day, i dont have that much time to play MMORPGs, so SotNW seems to cater to my interests.  Great graphics and sound, environment, arcade-ish gameplay, and of course online play to interact with other players.  The only minor gripe i have is that it looks like PvP and Colony Wars will also be using the MCC system?  I haven't played that far yet, but it looks like a possible tactical headache.  I guess some people would love the new concept and create strategies and stuff.  But I guess i'm a bit oldschool and prefer controlling 1 character in warfare, and only having to worry about one enemy and not their entire family.  oh well, gotta experience it to judge it though.

It had an announcment that there are no level caps anymore, so I don't see what the point of being able to buy the game is anymore.

    Out of 10, i'll give the game a 8.5.

    Good Points:

It's true that you can lvl AFK, which is awesome.

I think the music is great.

The battle system seems pretty original, considering you control an entire party.

I like the fact that  you can make a family, which is pretty cool.

There's at least 10 different outfits for each class to start out with when making a new character.

    Bad Points:

You can't customize your face, or I havn't seen anyway yet.

I can't play music from LimeWire whilst playing like I can with SilkRoad Online.

Sometimes if you log off, and get back on later, it will have taken two of your party members out, leaving you with one, and having to start back in town to get the same party.

Just some points that I've recognized that are good and bad.

It's a different idea, with many combinations for team setup. I'm thinking about downloading it, to try it out for myself. I guess it is safe to say that Pyrostasis likes it, just look at his Xfire game tag. Over 900 hrs played!!!

Ha. It's worth the 3.6 gigs, which aren't permanently gone, just to see if its something you like.. it takes no time or effort to click downlad, then wait for it, install and play. Give it a try. If you like, good. If you don't like, uninstall. At least you can cross it off your list, and you don't actually lose anything. I don't see how trying it could be a bad idea

LAWL  18th century European characters that look like speed racer with neo modern feathered, highlighted, and teased japanese style haircuts, breast implants, and eating disorders.

Almost the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Hint: they didn't have hair salons and "product" back then or implant procedures. You were lucky if barbers had sharp scissors and weren't out of leeches yet. There definitely wasn't hair dryers and hair spray yet.

I've heard that it is overcrowded with people because of only one channel , thats whats making me kinda hesitant to download this game

  • boommer99boommer99 Member UncommonPosts: 309

I honestly never felt overcrowded.  But there definately were maps that were insane.  They just added another channel to all worlds and said that a 3rd channel would be added as needed on a per world basis.

Anyway, it really isn't that big a deal right now and there is a XP increase week going on right now.  So... 2 for the price of one!

I don't think Sword of the New World is worth downloading anymore.  Its a pile of shit because of the company hosting it.  They screw over its members over and over again.  They also make plainly bad decisions.  They do absolutely no research before changing things, and if you lose something through thier fault you won't get it back and won't even get back the value of what you got.  There are many instances of this.  Pre-Order customers got back $10 worth of gold for thier $20 pre-order.  When the market crashed the first time some people lost 200k-1million vis.  The compensation, 50k vis to the people that reported a loss.  The second time it happened people losts hundreds of millions with no compensation.  K2Networks is a horrible company and deserves its bad reputation.  They make SOE look like the best publishers to ever enter the publishing business.

As for the rest you keep saying that they are doing things without any proof.  They went F2P, there was a LARGE population that didn't like the fact it was P2P in the first place.  Sooo... it looks to me like they did what the players wanted.

The rest of what you are saying is rather nebulous at best.

And frankly, if you don't like it... go away.  There are a TON of people who seem very happy.  Faction Wars are coming, we just got a new channel.  We have increased XP event AND we have increased XP when compared with sGE.  So, I'm happy.

You obviously didn't need to submit a ticket.  I lost over 400k worth of stuff in the 8/13 market crash, and they only gave me 50k.  The XP in the sword of the new worlds version isn't actually better.  With the increased exp event you earn more, but without it you earn less.  Ontop of this, the limited channels makes getting exp more difficult.  You have to compete to kill monsters while sGE has 3 times as many channels.  I still don't see how you can be happy when they gave back half of what they took away.

They didn't release f2p.  Thats the gripe.  I payed $20 for a pre-order of this game the second day it came out in April.  Not only did I get my pre-order 2 weeks late; but 2 weeks after I got it, it was worthless.  Ontop of this I wanted to play now, so I spent the $20 on the online pre-order since at the time they didn't overly fuck up the game.  I got to play even though I was ripped off another $20.  I am a GE fan after all.  What erks me more about the $40 is that the compensation is only $20.  Making it p2p, then f2p with a preorder isn't exactly my idea of smart hosting.  It shouldn't matter how many people voted for f2p, they should have catered alot more to p2p crowd somehow because it was already released p2p.

The character customization is a huge issue.  You can only look 12 or so different ways.  They didn't implement any in-game costume like they said they would.  The only way to obtain them is through bellum box, and only a limted few are in it.  I don't call locking your look in character customization.

I have 3 things to say Cleffy....

    1) You obviously were hiding under a rock as GMs also gave out costumes during events. They had about 1-3 events per shard, per day on average, with some events going on 5 or so times and dropping 5 or so costumes.

    2) If you're going to flame a company, at least have the intelligence to spell the proper names. Its K2 Network. And Sword of the New World. Stop adding plural words where they don't belong. At least I know you're reading comprehension level!

    3) Give it a rest, jeez. GE isn't that great in reality. Sure, it looks pretty, and has an interesting MC3, but beyond that, its rather shallow. The game is built for a non-interactive community, you're locked into your classes, no facial customization at character creation, no secondary leisure jobs (crafting [real crafting, not this half-ass shit], mining, animation emotes such as dancing, etc). In reality, its a rather large grind fest which leads you in a straight linear direction. You must start here. Level 1-5 here. 5-10 here, etc. Its rather... dull to say the least. But the thing is, if you don't like the way K2 is handling things, leave. Simple. Pack your bags. Be the better man and stop griping and making alt accounts trying to flame on the official forms lol Get over yourself and try another version. Perhaps kGE will suit you best?

    Cheers.

Thats all they did.  Don't give me untrue statements when I know they didn't happen.  In my eyes your the dumbass for giving into thier PR BS.  They are just lucky that most of the people affected by it left before they complained, and the ones that did got thier post deleted and account blocked.  I seriously don't see why you guys are fanboying this company.  There are certain expectations you should have out of a game your paying for.  First is customer support that doesn't take 4 days to get around to your problem.  Second is that if they have a boxed game, they should ship it ontime.  Third is for them not to go free to play in only a month.  Post what they did in the General forums and see what the mass of p2p crowd think about it.  Its damn close to fraud.  Its not about be being false, or untrue, or unwise.  Its about me being pissed that this company is taking GE and turning it into a Korean f2p clone, and not even doing a good job about it.  I only made 1 alt on the GE forums cause my other one was blocked, and I just wanted to express that they are doing a crappy job with most of the core community who has been following this game since 2004 having left the game.  I don't think a f2p fanboy can really respect that kind of expectation from a game, and to see it ruined not by the creators, but thier voice in the west.

Ya companies make mistakes, but they made too many blunders and blunders to blunders to be any sort of respectable.  They did the same to every single game they host.  Ontop of this they are taking GMs off of GE for other titles, in some cases firing GMs to spend less.
