I've actually become angry because of so many people comparing this game to WoW. When i first saw this game, i compared it to WoW and said that WAR is going to blow it away. My opinion still sticks. If you think WAR is a rip-off of WoW, then don't play.
"They are using the same engine graphics like WoW"
Actually, to me, WAR looks NOTHING like WoW. WAR isn't cartoony like WoW. I'm sure there are a lot of more people like me who will agree with me and I know for a fact that there are people who will flame me because they think it looks like WoW. If you think it does, then you shouldn't play as well. Stick with WoW.
I think the only way I can compare WAR to WoW is this - that, like every other MMORPG, will have its downfall. WoW, even though with its massive amounts of players, is slowly decaying. If you don't notice it, start looking into it. WAR will eventually fall as well, but for right now it's going to blow WoW away. Trust me, I know people that I've told this about and they won't switch from WoW because they are to obsessed with it and think it's the best MMO out there - it's not. I've played it for years and I'm bored of it. I've made every character (no I didn't get them all to 70, I have a life) and I'm still bored. I haven't played in weeks.
I'm done ranting. Please feel free to flame.

read more. yes i said compare, but its not like everyone elses way of comparing it
lol
I would have to say alot of people compare WAR to WOW is becuse WOW is the ONLY MMO they have ever played.

My point is that you, like everyone else, as you claim, compared it to WoW. When people first see something new, they compare it to something old to interpret it.
So what is the point of this thread? Yes, people compare things to understand things. WoW is the biggest, most popular MMORPG going right now (at least in North America), and so people will naturally draw comparisons to it to understand WAR and what it offers.
Whether or not you feel it blows WoW away is irrelevant - you posted about how comparisons to WoW anger you, yet admit numerous times you compare WAR to WoW. In fact, your whole post is a compariso to WoW, sprinkled with disdain for the very act you are bashing,
All in all, D-, due to inconsistencies and hypocrisies and nothing interesting added or discussed.
P.S. I actually enjoy comparisons to WoW, just not in the graphics department as that has been done to death and then some.
Well they both have basically the same races like humans, dwarves, elves etc (the typical fantasy races). They both the the same basic classes like magic/melee/range dps, healer and tank. The difference is everything in WAR focuses on PvP.
I just realized this, but it seems every person that posts topics "why is war compared to wow" or "war=wowhammer" topics are one, new accounts that have like five posts (in this case 8), or is some mindless troll. Who here is proud of me?
Though we have heard of stupid haste in war, cleverness has never been seen associated with long delays.

i am proud of you...
except that you said OR when i suspect its... and.
awww, mostly kidding guys.
My thoughts exactly.
Imo
1: Same artisitic style.
2: Looking at combat gameplay videos, the combat looks very similar to Wow
3: In both games, the "War" theme is very important.
They just look similar to each other.
My thoughts exactly.
Just because WoW might be the only MMO some 1 has played it does not invalidate thier opinion, It annoys me that some people think they are better then others or have some kind of right to put others down because they have played a dozen MMO's, well I put to those people why have you played so many MMO's? a "player" plays games, they do not hop around games and jump ship as soon as a new game arrives.

It doesn't invalidate their opinion, but when someone is basing an opinion only off of one prior source (especially when the source is part of the comparison) then one can assume the view to be skewed.
They both have dwarfs.
well other then the fact war pre dates wow and that wow took its art from war no1 can say this is a wow clone.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Remember that WoW is the biggest fantasy game out at the market at the moment, the game contains many persons who PvP and is looking for a better PvP system and that both of them have pretty alike races. WoW and WAR look pretty alike at a first look, but when you look deeper you see they are different.
It's just that persons who've been playing WoW and then want a new game just check through WAR briefly and can't see that WAR and WoW is indeed different.
It's undeniable that WAR and WoW looks pretty alike when you just check through classes and how the environments will look. You see the same environments as in WoW in WAR too and you see orcs (same), high elves (night elves), dark elves (blood elves), dwarves (same), chaos (undead), empire (humans). They look like each other at a first glance.
Same reason I compare WoW to EQ,EQ2,FFXI and others I played, its what I have that I can compare it to. I could compare it to Final Fantasy VII but that would be stupid now wouldnt it. A huge chunk of the american MMO community has only ever played WoW so what would you like them to do?
I use mozila firefox, many here I am sure do as well, if I was to compare it to another internet browser I would say that its alot like internet explorer, but better. There are lots of browsers out but I have only really used IE, should I compare it to one I have never used? Internet explorer fuctioned for a long time as what I wanted, It worked and I was happy with it, over time something new and improved came out and I had to switch. ( it seems the newer versions of IE are alot like Firefox now, but I havnt used IE in 2years or so)
And it does look somewhat alive which shouldnt be that hard to understand why, since its mentioned every single time someone makes a comparison of the two.
As for the feel, or control style that some have said is very much alike, How is this bad? To me the only thing wow truly improved on over other MMOs is the way you control your chars. Many MMOs control is kinda clunky (and I still like EQ over WoW) I had fun, and I know many others I talked to did as well, just running around town and jumping on stuff. So if WAR feels alot like WoW with improvements on the things WoW did wrong (alot of stuff IMO, repetitive PvE/PvP, everyone of a class looks the same, this list will be to long if I dont stop now) then um, I have to say cool"I AM IN!"
WoW is by definition the standard MMO. To the game industry, and consumers, the basic ingredients of a MMORPG is World of Warcraft, whether you agree with me or not it is the truth. World of Warcraft has all the basic fundamentals of a fun MMO, all you really need to do is throw a steady supply of updates, your own character customization, weapons, look and what ever else. WoW is the basic template <-insert game here-> is what you build. Blizzard does use the account numbers as their market sales strategy, but wouldn't you? 10-15% are people doing business within the game (chinese dudes) and lets add another variable, lets say, unsubscribed accounts, which shouldn't count in a sales figure but do, and yes even your trial accounts are thrown into the mix. So who here really hasn't tried WoW? Nothing is really restricting you except shitty internet. Sales figures are just a scheme, but a good one at that.
Every game, until it has surpassed World of Warcraft, will be refered to WoW. No escaping it, even then when "the" game comes, the standard will be "THAT" game for years to come. Yes people are growing tired of WoW, anyone would be after playing it for a few months, or even years. Everyone is looking for the next, new big addication.
Is WAR a copy of WoW.. Well think to yourself, what MMO doesn't have the basic nitty gritty of WoW. Seriously. Play any half-decent MMO, shit even some Korean MMO's lol.
WAR's character were established long ago, WoW took those basics from WAR turned it into their own, and the cycle is repeated. Until the next game that has all that jazz, but something else etc, but game mechanics, auction houses, etc, have a root source, and I've said that source so many fuckin times already that I'm loggin off. night.

Anybody who says WAR is using the same 'game engine' obviously does not know what one is, you only need to looks at 1 or 2 screenshots to tell the game engine is different. Model / Mesh complexity is the first thing that comnes to mind.
you gotta remember that most people have
1.short attention spans
2. pass judgment on everything (seriously try something out for once without judging it...its both hard and rewarding)
if u take a brief glance at War..yes it looks like WoW. if you bother taking a look at more pictures and the little details it looks NOTHING like WoW. reading up on a game also helps alot.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Anyone who has taken the time to look into WAR knows that it doesn't look anything like WoW. It only takes about 10-15 minutes of info gathering. But looking at WoW's sub numbers, it may not be such a bad thing that people compare it to WoW at first glance. A lot of people love/loved WoW (before the expansion). If the first glance reminds them of what they initially liked about WoW, that's a wonderful thing for the success potential of the game. Even if it's just enough to take another 10 minutes looking up some more information about the game. Those 10 minutes might be enough to get a new sub.
Any publicity is good publicity from a marketing standpoint, right? Gets the name out.
It is IMO just to get used to the comparison between WAR and WOW...... WOW and any game for that mather.
Im not including Everyone here but there is ALOT of ppl out there that really likes/liked wow and thought it is/was a very good mmorpg, one of the first really good ones. and like in everything else we humans do, we compare what we like and think of as good to every new thing/game we encounter... this is the way it is, and proly always will be.
My thoughts exactly.
I've been playing MMOs since UO. It looks like WoW and plays like WoW (considering I have played it I can say that). So not to be rude, but your thoughts are wrong.A lot of people might see me making all these replies to these threads saying the same thing. I'm doing this because after I actually tried it, I felt cheated. It simply pissed me off to see what the game was REALLY like. I was seriously hoping it would be something close to DAoC. Now im trying to get people to realize that the game isn't even close to DAoC, and YES YES YES, it is like WoW.
If the OP thinks it's only WAR being compared then he hasn't spend much time on the other forumparts.EVERY game is compared to WoW for a zillion times and people still start the game X vs WoW threads.Get used to it because it'll stay here for a loooong time unfortunatly
Thats very true, but sadly this is a game that NEEDS to be compared to it, because it actually is extremely similar.
The problem is, for most of the non-wowbois "xy is like wow" is a hard cuss and so they disavow it
