Fury: Fury Challenge Extended, $2M in Prizes

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

Auran has announced that the prize pool for the Fury Challenge is now over $2 million. The event has also been extended to cover the weekends from now until October 7th.

Brisbane, Australia - September 14, 2007 - Auran Games today announced that the prize pool for "Fury Challenge" has now officially topped $2 million dollars. The Open Beta event has been extended to run over 4 weekends from September 14 to October 7, and will provide players from all over the world the chance to test their skills playing "FURY", the 100% Player versus Player MMO which will be released in October.

"We want to put players on notice that FURY is serious fun and we have set our goal at nothing less than being the Number one PvP game in the world," said Tony Hilliam, Auran CEO and Executive Producer on FURY. "By putting together over $2M in prizes for our Open Beta event, I think we've started to show that we're already a contender for the title."

"In a market where the big names and big publishers get most of the attention, we figured we had to do something a bit different to be noticed," said Brian Cooke, Auran Director of Marketing. "Fury is a competitive game, and so putting together this amazing prize pool for our players should start to turn a few heads in our direction. From there, we're confident our game will keep them excited."

"During Fury Challenge we're capping player Ranks at an easily obtainable level," said Adam Carpenter, Fury Creative Director. "Since this is an Open Beta event, it is critical that new players become competitive quickly while avoiding the complexities that a max level, fully unlocked character would bring. This ensures the Challenge is all about player skill and teamwork, not time played, and this is what Fury's gameplay and design is all about."

Fury Challenge is a ladder based competition where players compete in 3 different game types either solo or as part of a Clan. There will be 2 practice weekends (Sept 14-16 and Sept 21-23) and the Ladders will be reset in preparation for the two competition weekends (Sept 28-30 and Oct 5-7). Players can either download the client from one of our sponsors or pick up a pre-order disk from participating retailers.

Prize sponsors include Dell, Nvidia, Logitech, Ideazon, IGN/Fileplanet, GameStop, Gamerail, Harvey Norman, Bigpond, FHM, and CybershotsZ. Prizes include PC's, graphics cards, keyboards, subscriptions, vouchers, FURY Gamecards and even a years' supply of energy drinks. Some prizes are available for regional winners only.

"GameStop is proud to sponsor the Fury Challenge with great prizes," said John Brittell, GameStop's Vice President of E-commerce and Direct Marketing. "We encourage everyone to take the challenge and also pre-order at GameStop to receive extra play time in the beta and an exclusive armor set for the final game."

You wanted to compete against the big boys of the industry. So you decided to do something DIFFERENT, and you came up with BIG MONEY PRIZES solution........ isn't that exactly what the big companies do ?

So... throwing money at people shows that you're a contender... but not necessarily for the best PvP game out there.  Doesn't matter, though, you'll get people to play the game because people love prizes.

Hi, let me tell you about my attempt/s to make an account for FURY THE CHALLENGE, first I saw the ad on this website and followed the link, read the instructions and proceeded to get the game key, which I had no problems getting, then came the downloading of the client nearly 2gig's and a bit more, no problems. Last I had to make a game account, no problem, so I thought, I go to the Create Account web page and filled in all, checked the check box that say I read and understand the terms and conditions of the game, then click the NEXT button, the next page is a web page with a Username and Password Login,( which also told me my username and  or password were invalid) at the top and nothing but a black blank page, no message as to what to do next, ok that stumped me, so I tried again, then tried again with the IE browser instead of my Avant browser and got the same results, nuth'n. there is no message as to what to do next, no game key login, nuth'n. ok then it must be a bug on the website, I'll tell them, let's go to there support page, yeah there's an email link, fill it in and send it off, done.
Oh look there really fast because I've got a reply, telling me that they don't use this email address anymore because there getting to much spam mail,  so I should try one of the other links, which now deal with support like this one, auran.com/helpdesk which  I had to registered with, before they would help me, so I spent 20 minute's filling out my details and then they did help me, they said I should go and tell this site for Fury specific support  http://support.unleashthefury.com Which asked me to Login with my username and password, which I don't have Because the game account registration page doesn't Work, at this point I can see why they call the game FURY and it is VERY CHALLENGING, (not to put my fist thru the wall)
So Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me?
Is all that spam, just other would be game users trying to tell them that the account regastarion page don't work?
Is there just a lone GM sitting online in the game wondering where evreyone else is?
FURY THE CHALLANGE, Yep it definitely was that, think I'll go back and play COH/V
    regards from redcap036
This is in no way a reflection on this site, MMORPG

Looks like they haven't put much time into the backend support stuff like signups, account maintenance, logins, problem resolution.  Unfortunately, generally what you see by open beta is the same level of service you'll see when a game goes live.  Day 1 when 1000s of customers all try to login and play could be a nightmare.

Very true, although I don't think that I was trying to apply on the release date, just glad that I didn't pay the $89.00 au to buy the pre-release box set, as far as I can tell the bought set still requires you to make a game account with them. I hope someone tells them about the account problem, I really don't see how they are going to make any money, since you still need a game account, so you can pay for a game subscription, which is what I planed to do after the Challenge was over,  just pay the month sub and play normally instead of only on the weekend. I hope they work it out soon.

OK, to answer some questions .....

Didn't RYL do a million giveaway. Yeah they did but they cancelled it. The difference with Fury is that the prizes are in place from household name companies and are in place.

Account problems.Sorry to hear that you had problems with the account system. Many hundred of thousands of people have created accounts and are playing the game so I would love to hear the exact problems you were having so we can fix them.

Also all mmorpg / webisite and IGN pages tell you to goto support.unleashthefury.com for help, not the Auran helpdesk so again how you got the link would be good to understand.

Please feel free to PM me at MMORPG or email community@auran.com and make it for my attention.

I haven't really been paying attention to fury... i had a go, but i'm not really pvp'er.

I don't undertand why the challenge is before the game is released unless it was a case of "spend $2million on ads" or "spend $2 on a competition that should get us some profile".

There is always going to be a length of time required to choose which class you want to be and figure out the best place to use the attacks etc so the only people who will be up for the prize really is either a Korean or someone who has played the beta for several weeks.

Therefore, the only people affected by the prize are people who were into the game enough to get a beta key early and/or already like the game enough... so where is the new playerbase? The guys who will join just to have a lucky shot at the money won't even need to buy the game as its pre-release so you miss out on income there.

Sure, you could have future competitions and prizes but if you don't get the playerbase you could end up breaking promises or losing a lot of money better spent on improving the game and the customer service.

IMO if you were that confident that it was the No.1 pvp mmo then you'd be able to rely on the game to get you there? Maybe i'm just missing the point

Good luck with the game though, it looked nice when i played :)

Hi all, I think Flummoxed is right, the site is swamped with pepole trying to get an account, I think if we wait till it's accuatly released, well i already got the game and a key, all i need now is an account and to pay the subscription fee and i'll be playing in another week or two or maybe more,( gee i hope i remember and don't get side tracked by another new MMo game release, before then.) oh well that's the way the a player gets fragged, or is it the game, hard to tell these days.

That's an issue with the IFRAME on that page. If you just scroll up on the blank page you will see what you have to do next , sadly that's not very obvious. We're working on getting that fixed as soon as possible. Sorry it gave you such a headache!
