I had played Ao for just over two years. I left because I became tired of FC's bull****, and there constant patches fixing there last patches. I also did'nt appreciate some of the changes they made of things that really did'nt need to get changed. I'll never subscribe to any FC product again. Like many that have noticed, FC really does'nt give a **** about it's fanbase at all.

So  now I'm playing EQ2 at least until a gaming company releases a "completed" game 95% bug free. To which they also listen to there fanbase and works together to make a great game.........................................yea ok I'm dreaming, but it was a nice thought.

now we play eq2 and Perfect World.

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

I will be patiently waiting for Age of Conan.  I have faith that Funcom is doing all the right things with this game.

I played AO from its release up until about 2 months after the Alien Invasion EP came out. I had played a lot of games before, during and after that period. I can't really say there are many that compare to the fun I have had playing it. I prefer the Sci-Fi element and not many good Sci-Fi MMOs are out there. One of the games I managed to stick with the longest after playing AO was FFXI. I still play it some today. I am also playing a few F2P MMOs like 9dragons and Voyage Century and waiting for Aion, Tabular Rasa and Age of Conan.

With all the new updates announced and slated to come out soon, I and several friends are looking to give AO another try at that time.

pr-sl AO was my first mmo and my best gaming experience ever. AO was pure magic back then.  it felt like a world and not like a quest-grind-job. i loved the complexity, the community of RK3 (the german server) and the random missions (best mmo gameplay idea ever btw.!!!) sl ruined it all for me. i re-installed AO yesterday. i´m just gonna do some sightseeing in the next days. i´ll record my tourist-journey on rubi-ka with fraps and delete AO after that. i still have the AO soundtrack on my mp3 player, the music brings back memories *sigh* lol.  i´m waiting for AoC now.

Wow, so many memories come back from reading this post.

I started Anarchy Online back when I was in grade 11. My cousin told me about this Sci-Fi MMO which I had never heard of. I remember saying "How can you shoot a ranged weapon at someone? A gun? Thats so unfair!" haha. At the time I was playing Everquest, or possibly Ultima Online, not sure. Anyhow, I was just told that my appendix was about to burst, and that I needed an emergency operation, so I had it done. During the time we were about to go into exam period before summer, so there was about 1 month of school left. Due to the fact I had a large incision in my abdomen I couldn't walk very well at all, and the drugs I was on made studying hard. I was exempt from all exams and has that month of school off to 'Rest and Repair'. So....I persued my chance to play this new Sci-Fi game.

Installed Anarchy Online after a long download and the first thing I did was make an Opifex Fixer. Farseen was born. I entered that neutral junk yard in Borealis and thought "what the fu*k is going on...". haha. I had a gun, and played it like a FPS game! In fact, now that I look back, I played it in First Person the entire time! Recently I've actually gone back to that....I feel more involved in the experience. Plus in AO you could see your gun hanging so it wasn't just a screen you were looking at, you were looking at the hands holding your weapon.

I ran around the junk yard a bit and tried to understand why I couldn't Riposte anybody....haha. It didn't make sense! Burst Fire worked fine, but damn Riposte wouldn't work. Ahhh, yes, the Neubie channel. Lucky for that I soon discovered that Riposte was only for MA's and what not.

I ran around for a bit and started earning my lovely credits. After finding the vendor in the Junkyard I had a new mission........must save up for new gun! haha.

Anyway, I remember the second I stepped outside of Junkyard 9 some crazy dude walked up to me wearing a full business suit. A beaurocrat. I told him he looked fuc*ing awesome, and he gave me 500k credits. Best day of my life? Maybe. First thing I went to do was buy  a Yalmaha! haha, who wouldn't? He stopped me though and said "woah woah buddy, you need Vehicle Air to drive a Yalm, and plus man, you're a fixer, why would you want a vehicle?" Well according to me, who the hell wouldn't want a vehicle? THEY COULD FLY. haha.

I only ever managed to get to level 70 to be honest with you guys, but I played that game for years, very casually. I was in the Org. New Movement and I never even pondered on going Omni or Clan, Neutral was my place. Witnessing the wars, not fighting them. I remember running through the Temple and fighting that god forbidden GoT for his memory belt. And for his tank armor, which I also wanted, even though I shouldn't have gotten it, hehe. I got my first set of MK1 Grid Armor and get a million buffs to get it on, oh I loved that. I also remember waking up at 5am one morning to defend our base from a clan attack, that was awesome, except fixers were no good in PvP. Well, I didn't bother to buy ensnares, haha, so I guess that would have helped somewhat.

Yeah...some damn good memories. i should go back -- that game was the best MMO I've ever played, hands down.

    Level 70

    Little "Farseen" Fixer

    Opifex Male

    - New Movement -

Maybe see you all soon? Sigh....

    - Farseen

    Current Game: Panzar

I played AO from day one myself.  I just loved how I'd be fighting something in the newbie area and get disconnected :) I left before Shadowlands came out because it got so damn boring farming missions in that one city on the coast or whatever (it's been a long time) I loved hunting out in the wilds with all the weird mobs but no one wanted to ever go out there.  I've played many other MMOs and looking forward to Hellgate and maybe Tabula Rasa.

  • AceRoccolaAceRoccola Member UncommonPosts: 14

AO is still the only MMORPG I have yet to give up on. I still enjoy it, it's got the best of everything that matters to me. The graphics are dated but the game itself is still better and more fun than any other I've played, and I've played tons trying to find one that was worthy. AO just has such depth, and such variety.

I'm hoping that Age of Conan might be able to do this, or maybe Tabula Rasa. Both games interest me a great deal. Otherwise I'll just continue playing AO.

    Hi,

some of the older generation may think that because i am only 14 im just a kid and probably have not felt what it means to be stuck into a game.

wich is exactly what i am haveing trouble with ive been playing fantasy and sci-fi mmorpgs since i first started playing on internet games wich was when i was seven or eight and the only sci-fi game i have ever played that i acctually liked was AO i loved it okay i have to admit it was abit boreing at first when you come out of the water and you have absolutley no idea what to do or how to get money (beleive me it tends to happen when you are seven) and then for some reason i do not know i uninstalled the game and whenever i have tryed to download it now i have been directed to my morpheus downloader wich it says it will take approximatley 56 hours and 37 minutes to complete i tryed just leaveing it on over night but its was still o 28 hours when i got up lol and ever since for around 3 years now ive been going from game to game to game.

the only game im acctually really excited about getting is my xbox 360 and the game elder scroll oblvivion wic is the best game so far ive ever played.

now someone said something about crap graphics i have looked at the recent pictures and they look quite good  although because i have no debit card and my mom is skint i need a good game to play so im not bored when i come home from school or home from being out with my friends.

im currently playing voyage century ive been playing for a whole week and im bored not because its a boreing game its because of the crashes and the lag and other things i just need an awesome game to play so i want to know is anarchy online free? i forgot wether it was back when i first played it but hopefully it is atleast long enough for me to be waiting till xmas :) im also currently waiting for the game fallen earth it looks awesome i would like a change something where i can purchase guns and go about a city killing bad guys and other players with cool outfits and nice lvling systems but so far i havent been able to find one that you have to pay for or one that is free.

Post AO I would recommend EVE Online. The most mature and complex sci-fi MMO ever built.

Ex-AO players : I would not be too excited about Conan or Tabula Rasa to be honest.

-In TR beta right now, its a kiddie FPS.   No room for custom builds, strict world/terrain pathing, mission based , cant see too much room for exciting PVP either in the future.  Richard "FAIL" Garriot.

-AoC.  Well hell, let me say that my jaw dropped when I saw the absurd comments by the FC devs/reps in the latest mmorpg video interview.    Not only do they FAIL by creating yet another boring fantasy themed MMO;  not only do they pick Conan , possibly the lamestFantasy figure ever; not only did they purely utilize Conan for the "brand name", as from what I can see, it has not changed anything from the usual dragons and chainmail....but best of all, they ARE PROUD OF ALL THIS.

-Secret World. Well, perhaps FC will go back to their conceptual roots with this one, we can only hope...    however : weak name -1 points. Conan dev team will eventually move to here, -2    Generic Katana in the one screenie of the game, -3.   Airbrush that out and Ill take you to -2.

I started playing ao before the lauch of ai expancion.

I'm now playing wow and eve online and looking for replacement for wow.

Since I saw what funcom support is like I will never pay for another funcom game again. I also watched some of the other new mmorpg's that are coming out and I have to say that they really suck. It seems that new mmorpg's are wow clones these days and I would really hope that someone would develob new scifi mmorpg.

Funny things in new games and ao:

GnH minion system - ao metaphysics minions (whole game based on "new" minions and controlling them?)

WW open air pvp area - ao tower wars (ao version not as pretty but the consept is the same)

?? player housing - ao player rooms (havent seen this around in new games, still ao has it)

?? guild housing - ao guild city (this should be in every game, still ao implemented it quite early)

wow scorge invasion - ao alien invasion (both had suprice raids on cities)

instance end boss raids - ao alien invasion factional raids (both are eaqually hard to get good loot)

wow 30 000 quests & storylines  - ao mission booths that give infinite amount (both are equally boring)

It seems that funcom has all these nice consepts and they fail to deliver them so that they would be the next big thing.

I'm not gonna touch another funcom game. I player ao for 2 years and all the good memories i have from it are player produced and all the bad are company produced.

    Zarobien:

64 solitus agent (cookie cutter, rerolled)

102 solitus enforcer (cookie cutter, rerolled)

206 solitus adventurer (cookie cutter, quitted)

    Sienne:

84 solitus doctor (weak healer, rerolled)

134 nanomage doctor (aggro magnet, quitted)

Agent, Fixer lvl 200 (I didnt like SL), I play AO2 in my head

Pew, pew, take this, Omni scum!

    I loved AO =)

  • DrgunzetDrgunzet Member Posts: 23

I've played since 2002.  In 2003, I made a few very cool twinks.  Then I got bored at twinking, because there was so many spoiled brats with big epeens ruining the idea of twinkings.  Once a while there were a few very innovative twinks came along, but most the time it's a boring well-known forumla.

I never like SL, it's too much boring grind.  I never like AI, just boring extra stuff.  LE is the worst of all expansion packs.

Currently I have been exploring the social aspect.  I am figuring out ways for the weak to win over the strong, the poor to prevail over the rich.  So I formed a large guild for the free-accounts to come and have fun.

Got to play the free shit, and eve for its lack of grinding

Question:  What do former AO Vets play now?

Answer: Former AO Vets play froobs.  Muahahaha...

Froob is an official word in AO now.  Free-account + noob = froob.

Seriously, I found some Vets prefer playing as free accounts because it's a new challange.  Some play free account because they could not pay for the subscription monthly fee.

IMHO, I think AO is the best free online game atm.  I will not be surprised to see more Vets taking advantages of this.

I have been trying to spread a new word, Fret in AO but it did not fly.  Fret = Free-account + veteran.

I am playing Tabula Rasa for the moment. A lot of AO-vets in that one, which is nice. The game has huge potential and is going to launch with a lot more features that AO did.

Gonna give it a chance because the devs have some wild ideas about how they are going to expand the game with mutations, personal Mechs and clan warfare. AND they listen to the playerbase

just dont join it and expect it to be as complex as AO is now.

  • AmegashieAmegashie Member UncommonPosts: 289
Tabula Rasa is nothing like AO, other than the generic SciFi setting.

    It's not innovative.
It has zero depth and, most importantly,
it's not fun for more than 15 minutes at a time.

At this point it's basically a dumbed down Guild Wars with monthly fees, as impossible as this may seem. Launch's gonna be smoother than AO's though, that's a plus I guess.
  • DiavolusDiavolus Member Posts: 1

Played AO for about  one and a half year. I played it with SL and AI but did not like the SL stuff except the SL heals for my doc :). After a 6 month WoW interlude my i tried a again but was bored to hell by doing SL-Missions or AI-Missions again. Hated that soldiers still had to vield pistols or that horrible looking blue SL-AR to do any decent DPS.

Now playing EVE online and dabbling with various F2P like RFonline. I am thinking about Tabula Rasa but not sure what to expect.

    AO:

    Doctor Autschweg around 216

    Soldier: Armata around 206

I still want my Spasmodic Assault Rifle! Best looking and sounding gun in game ^^

    Hello,

i also played AO years ago and it was mostly about notum wars to me after that booster pack came out. I also loved the depthness of the game overall.

Shadowlands however destroyed it for me, also AI and LE. I quit late in 2003 actually and came back in 2006 for a month. To me personally, what happend was, that AO lost the thread with the expansions in any aspect. Stylewise, gameplay wise, everything. Until then however, the game gave me a blast and i am still looking for a game that can generate that fascination that the old AO did.

I liked how the players were able to constantly change   the game world ( atleast a little bit ). I hoped that Tabula Rasa would offer something like that but as i found out here, the outside world of Tabula Rasa is instanced which totally breaks the immersion to me :(

I am looking forward to Darkfall and Warhammer Online because those two games maybe offer what i am looking for.

From what it seems, A lot of AO vets going to Tabula Rasa.

  • Longd0ngjoeLongd0ngjoe Member Posts: 18

Yes, its not surprising , becauses TR is finally a serious scfi game.I think the official site has a link to a former AO Clan who completely switched to TR. However, from what i know , beeing scifi is almost the only the thing, that both games have in common.
