I'd like to see the Highlander, done well of course - and ignoring anything after the second film, or maybe just ignoring the sequels entirely. The concept of immortality is a great excuse for 'respawning', though I'm not sure how the game would handle you having your head chopped off.
It would be an MMO that you could approach from many angles. It has both futuristic and medieval themes. Personally I would set it in the medieval Scottish Highlands. You'd form Clans with other wannabe immortal Scottsmen and rage wars with rival clans.
Maybe.
"My name is Recant MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, there can be only one!"
*Experiences Quickening* ... "DING!"
"ffs that Recant guy just ganked me again! Better start running MacLoed, my clan is on it's way!"
Or something.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
The Chronicles of Narnia? I know, it's a book series, but Disney made a movie out of the first one (when is the next one going to come out? It's been two years)

The notion that graphics, or anything else for that matter, are anywhere near as important as gameplay/fun is so utterly ridiculous that anyone who shares such a view should be placed in an asylum.
totally a good western i must agree with firefly cause that would spice it up a bit so everyone doesnt just have a horse and a six shooter.....but not so space orientated u know what i mean
SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS : THE MOVIE! (just kidding) The Chronicles of Narnia? I know, it's a book series, but Disney made a movie out of the first one (when is the next one going to come out? It's been two years)
Prince Caspian is coming out on May 18th. Or March 18th...
How about nightwatch/daywatch? you have good and evil fighting each other and you get wizzards, witches, shapeshifters, vampires etc all in a modern setting.
Making MMO's from movies is a bad idea usually because it adds another layer of "suits" to booger up the development of the game. Look at SWG. We have Matrix already and LothR is not really based on the movies but on the books and the world which Tolkien created. Bladerunner is in my top 5 movies of all time (the original with voice over but without the happy ending) but it is too limited a cyberpunk world without the 'Net. Highlander may be a movie that is unique. I really can't think to a genre where Highlander already fits. So Highlander would be my answer for an MMO based on a movie.
Now asking what genres is a more wide open question, but not all genres lend themselves to a typical MMORPG.
RL genres based on war or American west or colonial development would be hard to pull off. Getting shot 45 times with a 50 cal. weapon is just not realistic. These sorts of games lend themselves more to MMOFPS games or in development situations MMORTS. Post nuke or cyberpunk is also better suited to MMOFPS.
Steampunk would be perfect as Magic is the best cheap trick to explain away any detail that would be problematic in a more realistic setting.
Seriously, when making a MMORPG based on a movie, the mobie has to lack set content, because otherwise your MMORPG storyline is set in stone. Still, I'd like to see:
Series:
Buffy/Angel universe mmorpg
Supernatural universe mmorpg
Firefly
Movies:
Dark City
Bladerunner
Terminator
AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...
Think now those movie's might suck to see them now but i remember it being pretty cool movie's with the mix of sci-fi and western at the time when i was a little kid
Gotta agree with Firefly/western themed. One I just used on another thread. 28 weeks later? great movie could be a fast paced horror/military gone wrong/survivalists mmo.
Kings and Sons of God Travel on their way from here Calming restless mobs Easing all of their, all of their fear Strange times are here.
No movie, tv series, or book should be made into a game it always without fail limits the designers and results in a crappy game, lord of the rings online is the most recent game to fall into this trap.

I was thinking along the same lines, a series of books turned movie. Why not an MMO set in Alagaësia the world that the movie Eragon takes place in. Besided the movies their are to more books of lore to be used in the back story.Flying dragon mounts at epic levels. Maybe set the game in the period before the events in the movie, when dragon riders still existed inmass, or durig the rise of King Galbatorix and you choose to fight on one side or the other?
Comments
Ooh. How about Underworld? Full PvP, full looting. No levels, all player-skill.
Tv Series : Firefly - Part western & Part Sci-fi "& yes its a Movie too "Serenity"
Walker Texas Ranger
Duh.

I think Firefly is getting done. Would be my favourite since you could go the western route and hang out planetside or go scifi route.
Madmax is a good idea.
BTW I think there is a Battlestar Galactica movie. I think I watched it years ago.
How about nightwatch/daywatch? you have good and evil fighting each other and you get wizzards, witches, shapeshifters, vampires etc all in a modern setting.
I have a couple. Highlander, and Underworld.
300?
concept art allready done
although i think AoC have beat them to it.
My blog:
Starship Troopers
Matrix
and Aliens!
I would have to Say Firefly...... and in response to the folks that are saying Wild West... check it out http://wildwestonline.com/
"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement."

I would have to say I think Dune would be my 1st choice for a mmo.
