Although I disliked the game itself, I do have to say that LOTRO was the most polished beta experience I have had so far. Problems and bugs were very minimal.
I really enjoyed the WoW open beta, back when it was just a bit of fun before it became like a second job. I remember when the beta was about to end they spawned huge monsters in the cities and everyone packed into the nearest pubs to get "pissed" and dance... ahhh, the good old days
I think the main problem with the LOTRO beta was the fact it was pretty much complete... it left very little room for it to be improved based on player experience which ultimately resulted in a very dull gaming experience.
Blizzard beta was like a open book for everyone to read while all these other betas (LOTR, COH, SWG, Vanguard, etc) people had their lips tied with the NDA...
There was a reason for that you know, Blizzard knew they had a hit on their hands, these other guys know they did not.
And still even through the open book beta that was WOW you were hard pressed to find a negative review...Meanwhile as soon as Lord of the Cupcakes, Vantard, Star WTF Galaxies, City of Herewegoagian, etc. lifted their NDA, you could find negative reviews all over the place.

You really shouldn't make stuff up. LoTRO beta was far better than WOW's (I was in both) and reviews on LotRO have been very positive. I know SWG/VG were coasters at launchy, but COH had a very nice product just before release as well, and opened to good reviews.
You forget all the problems WOW had during the open beta and the first 6 months after launch (esp due to load issues)....
Don't get me wrong, WOW was a fun game and had a good launch, but it wasn't as flawless as you seem to saying.

I fully share your opinion.... I really hate how combat works in that game, but the beta was flawless
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
RLO, beta-tested it ALOT of years back, before WoW or anything ever even existed.
RLO - Real life Owns! No monthly fee or anything, just thank you parents for it. Absolutely F2P. You can do almost ANYTHING, though its darn hardcore - like after doing some PvP you need to cover up etc, cuz u can get caught.
It has perma-death too, you die - you die.
Played almost everything... Currently playing nothing... Waiting for: Darkfall, WAR, Guild Wars 2.
If it has to be open beta, I'd have to say Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst. Great community and lots of fun.
For all betas, I'd have to say Hellgate: London. but I can't tell you about that, now can I?

That would probably be LOTRO did a very nice beta didn't find many bugs even though it got a little boring after a while in my opinon
moo?
Lotro by far because of the people. Anyone remember growing pipe weed in Bree fields for hours on end?

Some that come to mind:
R.O.S.E. online, I forgot what version
Tantra online
Guild Wars, +alpha
Matrix online, wasn't bad
There's a lot more, just can't think of them right now.
MxO was the most fun beta i played but it was not flawless lol....the thing i hate the most is after launch they messed it all up.
CoH was very well done from beta on with very few problems that i saw.
rofl
Quake Wars is just a rip off, of Battlefield 2142... A bad rip off.
Dont bother download it.

DDO and LotR:O were both superb betas.
I can't really say the same of DDO, but LotR:Os beta is part of what convinced me to buy it.
Helbreath International... lasted 2½ year.
Best game ever.

EQ because at that time it was the only thing like it . It crashed ALOT and the packet loss was terrible but it was worth it to beta a virgin genre
