Well, as we learned last year. Just because they say they are coming out at a certain time, doesnt mean they will. Things may get pushed back. However, I agree, it looks promising
Only one of those games even looks to be good tbh the rest have been done before. Oh and that game is pirates of the burning sea, its the only one that doesn't have anything i have seen that is negative about it.
Aoc and War both look like they have more downsides than up. War i wont go near its going to be full of the immature players from wow, the same can be said of Aoc.
Warhammer just looks like wow i have read into it they arent doing anything original why would people want to go from wow to wow pvp edition? They still use the flawed base mechanics thats in everquest clones, id rather try somethink new like pirates of the burning sea which is as different from everquests hamster mechanics as possible.
Age of conan looks like its going to be a bitch to run, thats not what is turning me off though since i have decent computer, its the community it will have and does have already.
won't be a year of the mmo for a small while until mmorpgs in general are as entertaining as a single player game. But there is a strong possibility out of the ones to be released one is going to attract attention over the rest.
2008: Yet another year where your high expectations will not be met.

I don't know what you're talking about, both of those games are taking large evolutionary steps for MMOs. I don't get why you people don't understand that MMOs advance in baby steps, it's just how it is man. You're probably the type that hates on class based MMOs though, which I can respect I suppose, but the "WAR IS WOW" attitude just screams ignorance.
As for AoC, I don't really follow the game, but from what I've seen this game is definately going to be something; huge fanbase and the game mechanics are really exciting the crowd. Being hard to run might be a problem... but I have faith that it'll be optimized to run on a fairly average gaming machine, nothing too fancy.
Also, little fact for you: All games have bad apples, you don't escape them, you kill them.
"WAR-No thanks, same graphic style that WoW uses. And yeah I know WoW used the warhammer style, but whatever, I still don't want to play another cartoony mmorpg. Oh and PvE is gonna suck (most likely), all I've heard about was the PvP."

No offense but i have followed both games, and read up on them they have been done before barely anything original that is worth noting.
Warhammer looks like wow because the gameplay is the same pace, its level and class based which does not work in a decent pvp game which is what warhammer is aiming for, they are doing rvr which is in dark age of camalot already, and tbh all it is is a glorified battleground since it uses instances.
The teir system is a by product of the level system and is in wow already btw, 10-19 bgs, 20-29 etc works the same way, it is there at an attempt to hide the level difference which will make the other guy win, the combat system they are using is the same cookie cutter crap we get in every mmo which is seriously dull, especially when the main focus of the game is combat.
Siege combat will be in wow, and will work the same as warhammers apparently dont really care about that both are going to be pointless since everything is static. The only thing that is really different is that your kills are tracked so when you get a quest it takes into account what you already have killed which is a good gameplay mechanic but not something i have to have.
And lastly the wow community has it as their most hyped game, which is putting me off even more. You get bad apples sure but wow its 2 good apples for every 100 bad. thats what warhammer and age of conan will be like.
Ive been following age of conan as stated as well. Their siege system looks like it barely works at the moment, the combat system very clumsy if you see the videos it looks very static badly animated etc just turns me off, the boobs i dont care about but it will attract anything but mature players.
Battle keeps and the npc cities sound good but that demonstration they did recently looks like it barely runs when nothing is moving i dont really want to see what happens with people fighting on the screen with npcs as well.
There is something for everyone by the looks of it in the game, but the game it self looks like it barely runs i doubt it will be a good stable game if they release it next year, maybe in 2009 which would be worth waiting for if they get it stable and improve that combat system.
Lastly like warhammer the community looks and is at the moment terrible, and its one of the things really turn me off.
Pirates of the burning sea looks about as different as you can get with mmos. Tactical combat based at sea, a interesting take on land combat, port contention looks like a dynamic version of realm v realm, player content etc looks good, all production and no crafting is unique, levels dont matter since after level 15 all you do is get new skills. The graphics look okay, not top of the range but decent. The devs actually talk to the player base, and lastly the player base it has at the moment in great.
I also haven't heard very many negative things or seen negative things about it which i cant say for the other 2.
TCOS also looks good i think that comes out next year not sure though, interested on their take of pvp and no armour looks like a very stylish game as well but haven't read into it that much so wont comment.
Not sure what else that is coming out next year, aion, tabula rasa i think are but they dont look to impressive the wow expansion looks crap, so apart from POTBS and COS their isnt that much to look forward to. Oh huxley as well but isnt really an mmo and i haven't heard much about it for ages.
I really only see it being the year of WAR and AoC. Don't think any other game will be a huge hit. But of course I could be wrong.
I think that one, if not both, of these games will be the next major MMO(s) on the market. I'm almost certain that you'll see their populations rise to the millions not too long after release.
After those ones die out, Warhammer 40K will be looking saaweeet!
"WAR-No thanks, same graphic style that WoW uses. And yeah I know WoW used the warhammer style, but whatever, I still don't want to play another cartoony mmorpg. Oh and PvE is gonna suck (most likely), all I've heard about was the PvP."
Oh my god the old comparison to WoW topic.
all I said was the graphics style was the same, I didnt say anything about gameplay...
I bet my friend 15 dollars that some WAR fanboy would make a quick comment about it...I win thanks dude for getting me 15 dollars.
I can tell you one thing; many people won't like PotBS, only because of the Freedom factor. That's all I can say.
Yeah thats most likely true hopefully a miracle will happen and people will like it for the amount of freedom it offers, i am so sick of the hamster on a wheel games they are so shallow.
sctt888 had this to say 5/7/07. Interesting predictions...
Last year i successfully predicted the fall of vanguard, every one was like GTFO and STFU and they told me i was wrong and how much of a god game VG would be. Welp looks like i was right, another thing i successfully predicted was that LOTRO would be one of the best mmos released after WoW, while not killing or taking WoWs highseat it would be a GOOD mmorpg.
so far i was 2-0
This year i have more predictions for our new games comming out! POTBS will be a good game for the most part, while not having the high pop of LOTRO and no where near as WoWs it will be a very nice sandbox mmo that will make some old school SWGers pretty content. AoC will be the biggest shocker as it will fail, not fail as much as vanguard but the reason AoC will fail is because of bugs and it will be very computer intensive, you will definatly need a next gen to play this game. The bugs will be fixed, people will play AoC there will be huge debates on how much AoC rocks and how much it sucks on this forum.
Blizzard will announce its new xpac for WoW, this time bringing some nice features, housing, three new classes, DPS,Healer,Tank, no new races, this mmo will be centered upon the emerald dream. It will be a better xpac then the burning crusade but for the most part it will still feel like the same ol WoW which will get tedious after a while.
Warhammer will be the game that will knock WoW off its highseat, while not killing WoW it will hurt it badly, warhammer will do to WoW what WoW did to EQ2.The game will be immensely fun, a true PVPers game, though eventually WAR will become tedious eventually.
Vanguard will make a second comming, it will do what EQ2 did, it will finnally be playable, added content, so much to do and things to see. Sadly the preformance wont change much, no one cares about VG any more, while gaining a boost in subs it will still feel vastly empty.
A classic mmorpg will get a server were players can go back to their favorite time period of the game and many mmoers will rejoice and give it a nice pop boost again but nothing jurrasic.
So there ya go, my predictions for 07-08
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
You missed a lot of games! with Aion being my favourite. Also the first good-looking mmorts is going to be released in Q1 2008 (Dawn Of Fantasy). And maybe i might get my own little mmorpg play-able :-D
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

Im currently waiting for RO2 and Starcraft2 hope they don't delay too long.

This is, what? The tenth or so year that someone's been claiming that it's the year of the MMO?
MMO games don't come out in huge batches. There will never be a "year of the MMO", simply because the market can't handle something like that.
Correction, Q1 2008 will be the quarter of the MMO. By the end of the year there will only be 1 or 2 of those games left alive.
Somebody call Noah, cause this market is flooding fast.
Well, as we learned last year. Just because they say they are coming out at a certain time, doesnt mean they will. Things may get pushed back. However, I agree, it looks promising
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
I think this is the year of the platform dating sim.
