So now you played on two servers and cleared more content and a bunch of other things you can't remember.
You sound like Smed.
Yes actually I wasnt paying much attention. I wasn't dragged into the lore and world much. Was listening to my raid leader and that was it:> I remember we did those green dragons plus the azuregos or whatever it was spelled. I also remember the tactics for most of raid boss fights and how we did them. I have a good memory for that:> And I have to say there was one very funny boss fight (one of the few) it were those three insects in one big room in AQ.
And yeh the AQ gates were closed at that time, I think there was a patch later that removed all the opening grind but at that time it was closed so i transfered away to see it. I recall it now pretty well. But anyway I guess we went off the topic a little.
So you are trying to say that your BRAND NEW server did the entire war effort in its first three months
some (many?) of the new servers that launched in 2007 had no War Effort
AQ was already accessible on server launch
this was true on at least 2 new servers where I played,
Trollbane and Nazgrel
Sure in 2007 I bet a bunch of 70's could breeze through the old world raids. I was just laughing at his tall tale is all and knew he wouldn't know about the war effort. Even if it were true, who could enjoy a game if all you did was grind to max level in a couple weeks and then repeated it with raids.
Not that it is true anyhow, but funny none the less.
WoW didn't "make" these other games unpopular. They are unpopular because they are not marketing properly, make big mistakes or just don't have as much to offer as the next competing product. WoW brought more people to the genre overall and if other games can't capitalize on that then it isn't WoWs fault.
It is hard to compare any game to WoW in terms of popularity as there is such a huge gap. What is popular now isn't the same as 3 years ago.
ACK.......I hate it and I haven't yet played......bought the combo pkg for WOW...thought I would ck it out before I open it (to me $40 is lot of bucks for game)....cant ask questions in WOW forums cause you cant create acct without opening box and getting KEY to create account soooooooooooo..dam...then I come here to find out I guess...WANT to know if the characters have any customization...how many people think it might be worth $40 + fee...I know it has some pvp..cool but I dont want PK...so far I havent found any info and most peeps on this site have more info then others lol. *sigh......help if you pls!
Oh almost forgot...is this game full of bots, spammers, etc and do you think you HAVE TO buy gold for the thing or can you play without investing more bucks? I am not rich lil girl..have to watch my spending

talents allow for very deep customization. keep in mind though most mmo gamers that play wow play a class usually one of 2 viable builds for a class. but GOOD players experiment more and pwn just as hard.
pvp wise. this is probably your game then. you can play on a "blue" server ( pve ) and still have full access to the cross realm battlegrounds. which is a lot of fun. again, youll hear a lot of first time mmo gamers complain about "premades" which are a group of friends that play together all the time on the same teamspeak but again, you can run into that in any game, be it mmo or fps. i love the battleground system its a ton of fun and completely optional.
spammers do happen yes, but blizzard has been harder on them than anyone in the industry. and if you see someone spam you to buy gold, boom, right click their name, click report spam, and yer done.
as far as buying gold, no, the best gear is either nodrop via an instanced dungeon or nodrop via trading in pvp honor points and marks or medals from battlegrounds.
dispite what you may hear around here, wow's a great game. theres a reason it has almost 10 million players. its fun. but this site is probably the worst place to ask. mmorpg.com gamers tend to hate anything that is successful. the vibe around here tends to be all about the underdog. no matter what game of the moment that is.
good luck.
Games i'm playing right now...
"In short, I thought NGE was a very bad idea" - Raph Koster talking about NGE on his blog at raphkoster.com
The people that generally say that they hate the game fall into a few different types; 1 - Mindless drones - The main gang are those that feel it is 'cool' to hate the game just because it is so popular or because someone else says it is and they have no voice of their own. Most of them will echo the age old excuses without any real validation. This breed may have actually played the game in trial or at a friends house. This one I'll give you, but a lot of them get their anti WoW ideology from listening to people say what WoW has to offer. 2 - Other MMO Fanatics - They will always spew the old 'My MMO is far better than WoW because' thing or 'WoW is crap because my MMO does this' thing. I've met more WoW fanatics than ANY other game I have ever played. Other than, maybe Counter Strike, or Halo. I have seen about 5-10 people who are anti WoW on these forums because of another game as their primary reason. 3 - Ex Players - More than likely hardcore players who have played all of the games PvP or Raid content to death and feel that there is nothing left for them so they are now going to hate it. This breed will never realise that if you play any game 24/7 it will only last a finite amount of time or that there are other things to do than just PvP and raid. I'm not sure I've seen any people who hate the game because they got to the end, raided all their gear, and had a good time doing it. For the most part, it was people saying "now you want me to go from 60-70? And to do all this crap again? Screw it, I'm leaving" that people who have said "Well, I'm done this games way too short. Because that's WoW's key point, you never finish. 4 - Never played - Very similar to the 'Mindless drones' but they have never actually played the game which makes them worse in reality as they actually have no idea at all what they are talking about. Just group 1 and 4 together completely, because otherwise they would fall under 3, which you don't seem to have much of an excuse for unless they were a hardcore player. There are probably more, but they are the general types you find. The real question you have to ask yourself is why so many of these people spend so much time on the boards of a game they don't like?? Go Figure! Because we're allowed to voice our opinions here as well, not to mention that this thread is "Why do people hate WoW" which means I was invited, and it was on the front page for a few days now. That is the lames excuse I've ever heard get used so often. Just because we come over here to voice our opinions you dub us as jerks who are just coming over to call you a jerk, whereas a lot of us are coming over here to argue a point, and then call you a jerk.
And then there's people like me, who played it for a long time, not hardcore I might add. People who dislike the game like me, just didn't find much fun in that game after around level 20. I still kept playing after 20, but I eventually left because everything just got too monotonous.
Oh by the way, to be equally as biased, here's where most of the WoW supporters fall into.
Mindless Drones - They just played the game, and since it's so popular think that it's the greatest thing since the wheel. Most of them don't even understand why people dislike the game, because lot's of them have never played any other MMO. Lots of them are either hardcore players who don't mind the skull crackingly boring high level content, or casual gamers who couldn't care less whether a game is popular or not so long as they have their friends playing with them.
I await your response, it aught to be good for a laugh.

This post is a little unfair. It's not that the people on MMORPG hate anything that's successful, they just like games with vast complexity and depth. This is a website made popular by MMO players that have been around for a long time, so alot of people here have been around since UO. It's not that WoW is a bad game by any means, in my opinion. It just lacks everywhere. Character creation is good, but it certainly insn't the best. My quest log can only hold a maximum of how many quest? 25, while the log in EQ2 goes to...200. Then comes te Talent system which is a stripped down AA system that's been in many games since the original EQ.
The good thing about these stripped down systems is that it's easily accessable to pretty much anyone that can click a mouse. The bad thing is that the game will be very boring for people that have already seen these systems on a much larger scale.
Now comes the hate. Alot of original MMO players dislike WoW because it essentially took complex and awesome RPG games like Baulders Gate and turned them into Diablo, and if new games don't hit the million subscriber mark, then they are failures in the industry. Essentially WoW took a genre that's games would be successful if they hit 100k subcribers and turned it into a commercial circus, thus ruining the complexity and depth found in so many earlier MMORPG games.
No reason for jelousy I mean we can all subscribe and buy the same games, there are just people that want more, and have been waiting for that something for a long time now, pretty much, months before WoW hit. Now that WoW is still going strong developers are trying to catch the WoW cash cow, instead of making Complex and In-Depth mmorpgs that actually give you a reason to play other than to beat everyone else down.

You've made a very reasonable and well-thought-out post. Unfortunately, some people just can't understand that others might not like the same game they like, so the dislike of WoW will continue to be blamed on some vast conspiracy of jealousy.
their expansions while few in number add massive amounts of content. I mean someone was bragging about EQ 2 having 4 expansions to WoWs 1 well those 4 expansions put together probably added less content then Burning Crusade.
And then there's people like me, who played it for a long time, not hardcore I might add. People who dislike the game like me, just didn't find much fun in that game after around level 20. I still kept playing after 20, but I eventually left because everything just got too monotonous.

Haha I lol'd. You haven't even experienced a quarter of the game and hate it? If you think WoW is a grind, just even more laughs for me. In WoW, you have quests, sure it's a lot of go kill 10 of this, but in AC, you litterally stayed in the same exact spot, killed the same spawn for about ten levels. That was a grind.
WoW capitalized on the short comings of many of the previous MMOs. What exactly are the "complexities" that are missing. I've found many people confuse grinds with complex, hardcore or whatever other term is the current buzz.
I am not saying there aren't some dumbed down aspects of the game or missing mechanics that would be fun like boats or housing, but it offers more than most games do in full on comparison. Most of the old school players here, like myself, are not the majority of the market anymore. Games that will appeal to us are now niche and not the big investments.
Maybe some game company will finally make a solid MMO with new designs, sandbox or whatever. Then they will go the extra step to not release it with half finished systems and terrible performance. The only real edge WoW had was it was finished, well thought out and removed much of the tedium associated in other games. It doesn't do much beyond that, but it does everything really well.
I want a better game that offers more in depth game play, but I just can't bring myself to hate a game that has been managed well and hope it changes the way companies make games.... not clones, but the way they do business. I will not blame a well made game for succeding and making many other titles look terrible in comparison. It just doesn't make sense.
And then there's people like me, who played it for a long time, not hardcore I might add. People who dislike the game like me, just didn't find much fun in that game after around level 20. I still kept playing after 20, but I eventually left because everything just got too monotonous.

what?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I reread my post thinking I made a grammatical error, but couldn't find any. He said after level 20, it became too repetitive for him. I said that WoW is not a grind, compared to other games. Hopefully that clears things up?
their expansions while few in number add massive amounts of content. I mean someone was bragging about EQ 2 having 4 expansions to WoWs 1 well those 4 expansions put together probably added less content then Burning Crusade.
I left not because i hated it, actually enjoyed it while playing it. I left because I got bored and wanted to try something else. I played EQ2 before trying WoW and just didn't like it when it first came out. Now I play EQ2 and enjoy it immensely.
Why do i hate wow? Hmm, well i only played wow for about a week and quit as soon as i saw the quoue thing tell me it was going to take an hour and a half to get into a 2 week old server. BUt thats not why i hate wow, its your choice to wait, i choose not to wait.
Simply put i hate wow because of it popularity. Thats not to say i hate it because so many love it. I hate it for the fact that other developers see the sucess and try to emulate it. So that means every other mmo that comes out in the future will be the exact same game with a different skin. Now that is unacceptable. Wow had its place in destroying SWG, the simplification in order to meet wow players standards. This is my opinion of course but it does stand to my reason. Even age of conan reworking the combat system because of it being overcomplicated, hmm who are the players who complain about something being hard??? Everyone wants to steal WOws community to make the big $$ and to hell with making anything new and inovative.
When you get to lvl 60 and play it for a few years and get everything in the game it gets very boring... BUT OH WAIT!!! they intoduce lvl 70 and you think it would be alot different at 70.... but its not... people wait in BG's for honor...Arena was cool for a little while, but palladins screwed the fun out of that... Instances are boring after doing them over and over... Theres nothing new at lvl 70. Its the same as 60. And when they raise the level cap to 80... there will be nothing different their either... They are introducing 1 new character... 1... I dont know why people would pay for an expansion and all they get in return is 1 new character class.... and 10 more levels to grind so they can do the same crap over that they did a level 60 and 70..
I played a warrior and got him to 70. I spent A LOT of time on him and I loved to pvp with him... But warlocks start complaining and warriors get nerfed... I just hated the fact that i spent so much time to build a pvp character, and it all goes to waste with every patch. They nerf warriors so much. We had to abuse our powers to get anything done in pvp.... so theres another reason i quit..
I mean you can't praise WoW at all without the inevitable 'They copied [Insert Other MMO Here]', or 'Quantity doesnt = quality' or just general hate flung at WoWs direction. I mean give Blizzard some credit, they made a solid game. Sure it is lacking in certain areas but Blizzard is always actively seeking to improve. I mean their content patches offer things other games label 'expansions'. And their expansions while few in number add massive amounts of content. I mean someone was bragging about EQ 2 having 4 expansions to WoWs 1 well those 4 expansions put together probably added less content then Burning Crusade. Sure subscriptions alone dont dictate quality but these 'quality' games seem more like elitist games to me, because their players are so aloof about even considering other MMOs. And those speaking of the WoW players maturity, that isnt a wow thing that is a videogame/internet thing. Put a normal person in an anonymous situation and some will be inclined to be complete jerks, dont judge an entire population on this one thing because I'm sure every MMO has its share of jerks. WoW is my first MMO and I was excited by this entire genre once I learned what it was about, there are times when I get bored of WoW and I will experiment with other MMOs but none of them are as easy and fun to play from the start as WoW is. And WoW scales well too, sure its easy to pickup and play but once you get to capped content I would put it next to any other game on the market in terms of difficulty, because the slightest loss of presicion or focus in the endgame content is GG for the raid.
Managed to last a couple of months and that was pushing it , the game got repetetive for me and had pretty much no challenge and a poor community.
The fact you say it's your first game, you have probably never come accross the concept of real challenge/community & depth in a MMO. Feature rich games especially WOW remove a lot of the fun challenge and requirement to play together.
Try a MUD like Dragonrealms Simmutronics for a month and you will see what a mean about variety, but then it may be that you like a pleasant hack and slash. My time is worth more than that and thats why WOW doesn't rate.
I find EQ2 has more depth and content for playability value but I play that little these days, I notice you comparing EQ2 but you state your experience is in WOW i wonder if you appreciate peoples opinions or just like to quote you narrrow view with limited experience. I don't normally but i'll quote my platimes for multiplayer online games below to give an example or what i've played.Have Betad in 80% of the games below also.

WoW has made alot of cool MMORPG's unpopular and unpopulated. Atleast thats why I hate WoW.

dispite what you may hear around here, wow's a great game. theres a reason it has almost 10 million players. its fun. but this site is probably the worst place to ask. mmorpg.com gamers tend to hate anything that is successful. the vibe around here tends to be all about the underdog. no matter what game of the moment that is.
good luck.
Games i'm playing right now...
"In short, I thought NGE was a very bad idea" - Raph Koster talking about NGE on his blog at raphkoster.com
TY Cerebrix for such a quick response.....I will to give it try...you have given me much info I needed...:)
It's simple... It's extremely cool to hate WoW in MMO circles. Hating WoW = Auto coolness
I don't hate WoW , I hate a certain type of player in its community.
I await your response, it aught to be good for a laugh.
talents allow for very deep customization. keep in mind though most mmo gamers that play wow play a class usually one of 2 viable builds for a class. but GOOD players experiment more and pwn just as hard.
pvp wise. this is probably your game then. you can play on a "blue" server ( pve ) and still have full access to the cross realm battlegrounds. which is a lot of fun. again, youll hear a lot of first time mmo gamers complain about "premades" which are a group of friends that play together all the time on the same teamspeak but again, you can run into that in any game, be it mmo or fps. i love the battleground system its a ton of fun and completely optional.

Unfortunately, some people just can't understand that others might not like the same game they like, so the dislike of WoW will continue to be blamed on some vast conspiracy of jealousy.
you obviously got no clue, sorry
Haha I lol'd. You haven't even experienced a quarter of the game and hate it? If you think WoW is a grind, just even more laughs for me. In WoW, you have quests, sure it's a lot of go kill 10 of this, but in AC, you litterally stayed in the same exact spot, killed the same spawn for about ten levels. That was a grind.
That is all.
It just doesn't make sense.

what?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I reread my post thinking I made a grammatical error, but couldn't find any. He said after level 20, it became too repetitive for him. I said that WoW is not a grind, compared to other games. Hopefully that clears things up?
you obviously got no clue, sorry

I left not because i hated it, actually enjoyed it while playing it. I left because I got bored and wanted to try something else. I played EQ2 before trying WoW and just didn't like it when it first came out. Now I play EQ2 and enjoy it immensely.
it was fun for a week, but the game just became too repetative for me, and mundane. so i just quit.
Thats what i hate about wow.
Flame on.
Have fun playing that game its a POS..
NWN SSI variant 12 months,Meridian69 12 months,UO 18 months,AC 4 yrs,AC2 4 weeks.EQ 6 months, Shadowbane 3 months, DAOC 6 months,SWG 3 months,Ryzom 3 months,Guildwars 2 weeks,DnL 6 months, LOTRO 4 weeks, WOW 2 months.
Open subscriptions Active: EQ2 since release,EVE since release,Vanguard since release, D&D online. since release.
Waiting on :- HJ / Darkfall / POTBS
