I don't want to be a hero...

JHesychastJHesychast Member Posts: 15

Really. I don't want to be a hero among heroes. I want to be a person. A person with meaning and freedom, who isn't necessarily the hero, but can explore, craft, and maybe help out the local village. Most MMORPGs I am finding emphasize the hero because it's good marketing. EQ2 as a close to home example... we used to start off as refugees. Now? We start off immediately in armor and as heroes, no longer a refugee in tattered clothing. I want depth to my character, and I want to do more than mindlessly slaughter and play the hero.

What MMORPG will give me this?

Thanks!

I've always said that Galaxies is a game that you can play without ever really having to do a ton of combat. I played the game for about 3 years and I would say only 20% of my time was spent in combat. The rest was either surveying and placing harvesters for resources, crafting or hanging out in my shop talking to customers.

The economy and structure in SWG is truly unique and I wish more games would follow suit.

If you're not stuck on fantasy, EVE Online doesn't really give you a character premise - you invent your own story and pick your own path, whether it's bounty-hunting, trading, mining, etc.  I agree with you that too many games give you hero status right up front - I miss the days of working for my recognition! ;)

I agree with Taera. Although you're forced to be one of the "few" pod pilots in the universe, you really don't mean anything until you create your own reputaion within the player community. As a bounty hunter, you won't be a "hero" until real player pirates cower at the very mention of your name. As a pirate, you don't mean much until your appearance on the battle scene sends small-fries and noncombatants fleeing in all directions, etc.

We had a hero in our alliance once.

He then had to provide us all with free beer, because he was a hero and could afford all that and because its a nice thing to do when you are a real hero and because real heroes should do such things and so on.

    Another fallen hero... :D

No seriously, although you are - at least story-wise - a chosen minority in the world of eve as a podpilot, in game you are a mere nothing around of 160k-180k players, and will have to work for your reputation. And i dont mean npc-rep, but player-rep. There are heroes ingame, like Sir Molle, Chribba..everyone knows them.

But most of those die young without any money in their pockets because they have to buy beer.

(Kendar, if you read this, its been a long time since you provided all of Morsus Mihi with free beer. A LONG time. Like in "never". We are still waiting!)

Oh sorry, think ill derail this thread with my post. its way too late in the evening here where i live..
