Bounty Bay Online - Pirate MMO

Hiyas,

I saw a few posts for folks looking for something fun and new to do while some of the bigger names await to be released. I've been enjoying Bounty Bay Online and can give you the honest ins and outs if you were looking for a little fun pirate-style.

First off the game itself is relatively simple but can be confusing when you begin - little bit of a learning curve.

Great things about it: Community is pretty nice / mature - helpful if you join a guild, the better your ship the sweeter they look: lots of elements like boarding ships, piracy, guild raid style sacking of towns, treasure maps... Loot is rare to the point of annoying but makes it valuable, there are lots of skills to advance as well as boats  - HUGE player made everything in the game pretty much // land melee stuff, also with auto-attack on you respond to all attacks so you can lvl while afk (which to me is nice in school and when you sleep) - faction / Quests / Dungeons...

Cons: 8 point - point and click movement with horribly annoying pathing, neverwinter nights-ish movement on land. Buggy, laggy, needs tweaks and sieging to be worked on a bit. Sea battles are nice and the boats are pretty, clothing as well but relatively simple graphics / not what Id call eye candy. Also it lacks a certain something - it will never be Everquest, SWG, etc.. and lacks variation in a lot of ways.

Has some cookie-cutter qualities which have their good points and bad points as well.

REALLY Fun and addictive though I must say - if you start it is easy to keep the computer on afk or at the helm

Our guild is recruiting in game if you choose to try it out for active members -

And for those who are thinking about playing Bounty Bay, play Voyage Century instead. Same exact game except VC is free, BB is not.

yup and they are both crappy, so i should w8 and try out Pirates of the buring sea, looks good and have much more depth and mucb better engine :)

There is a difference - the free Voyage Century is filled with really annoying immature people

BBO is not though it is a similar engine (BBO has newer and different features /quests / items etc that VC dosent have, VC has an Item Mall - BBO does not)

Crappy I think is subjective - especially if you havent played it

the only real crappy thing about it is the point and click movement - then again you dont need 2 hands to play, but there is something to be said about the community

some might think it crappy because there aren't a ton of 13 year olds blathering about Chuck Norris in public chat - that is one of the reasons I like it, lots of really nice mature hardcore players

Kinda like NWN in a way, there are flaws in the game design but the game isnt going to be Oblivion, Halo, WoW or Conan Online, and it is based on community more than anything

many people think EQ1 is crappy, Vanguard's lack of endgame, SWG's jedi system, etc  -- many also think those are the some of the greatest games ever created, some think video games are a waste of time all together, some think they increase depth perception, reflex, hand-eye coordination - and they are all right

dont knock it til you try it - and if you have played BBO and not VC and levelled up a  ship  - sieged a few cities...then I respect your opinion

    happy gaming!
