Until we can use and control teleportation, then, in my opinion, time travel would probably prove futile.

Time and space co-exist, and if you wanted to time travel then you would also need to "space" travel - in this case we mean teleportation - because you would have to move yourself to the place you wanted to be, otherwise you would more than likely wind up in the vacuum of outer space after you move to the time you wanted to show up at.  The Earth Spins at about a 1,000 MPH, and also rotates around the Sun at about 67,000 MPH, and lets not forget that our galaxy spins as well which means that our Sun is moving itself and us at roughly 487,000 MPH .  So if you wanted to go a couple of days, weeks, months, years, or decades back because you have killer news of a stock you want to invest in during its IPO so you can use it for your retirement fund (or whatever-fund) in the future, you would just pop into the emptiness of space unless you knew exactly where the coordinates the Earth would be at that particular moment it time just so you can get a nice slim chance of showing up in a place that has oxygen - assuming of course you are in a sealed and self sustaining "pod."

But that's MY idea that I've been tossing around in my head for a few years, so take it how you want it.  ^.^

Ive always seen no reason why we couldntt see into our past, as we can see a star today, that was non existant one million years ago. Just get some Hubbles a certain distance, into space, do a little triagulation, and bingo, you can see everything of earths past. It may even possible to harness a persons, electronic thought patterns and project those, to a focul point a, few feet off of the ground, at the place of the past image, and observe/navigate. But to see the future, I doubt. and to be de materialized and travel to a place in the past, I doubt. And to be de-mated, into the future I very much doubt. Now I also think it is possible to examine DNA and electronically re crate the images of the ingrains and experiences of our ancestors, through this, Astral Physical, Geologial, Arceological, and Basics Physics, one might be able to construct a decent sample modeling of the future.

A nice idea, but surely you'd have to get those Hubbles out there at a speed considerably faster than light, otherwise you will only be able to see into the past from the time you got them into space.

Maybe if inhabitants of a far away planet set up something and somehow sent us the images, that might work.

I just thought it was appropriate for this thread.  It's a great story and way they lay out the concept of time travel is very interesting.  Especially for non-scientists like myself.

I didn't like the book. But then again I don't like many modern books. So I stopped reading them. The only parts I liked about Timeline were those dealing with the portrayal of the medieval culture.

But like I said time doesn't exist, it is a concept we use to describe change, so you can't travel forward in time nor slow it down, but maybe you could go fast enough to observe the "past". This would require you to move extremely fast however.

No, if you could somehow move a human at light speed, according to these theories, they would actually age more slowly than the rest of the world. And you might disagree with the notion of time from a philosphical level, but most physics classes would disagree with you on a scientific basis.

Yes I believe this theory is accepted widely due to the subterfuge (Forgive the misspell lol) tests. Or atleast thats what i've read. Whether it's truth who knows.

Time is basically marked by how fast things decay, enthropy and such so really travelling back in time isn't so simple. Time is a concept but it's also  a form of energy that is if you can count enthropy energy (I'm actually unsure what it would be called. Breakdown of energy?).

I guess one can only really see how much breakdown  to something occures going lightspeed. Perhaps a measurement of a photons energy? But then that'd require knowwing it's exact...oi' screw this Ima go do something productive like nuke a hot pocket.

your writing a report on time travel... Lol.. Well, time travel would be cool.. But, think about it.. There would be no world. think about if hitler could come back...
