Started playing it again

Riptide69Riptide69 Member Posts: 45

I started playing this game again today and was surprised to see the number of people still playing it!  Some of the same old orgs are still around.. shoot I think they must be over 4 years old.

Another pleasant surprise was the new vehicles , like the bike and hover board thing.

Anyhow I may be sticking to this one until Age of Conana comes out at least.

One thing I always liked about this game is it has ALOT of content and it's evolved so much in so many ways.

Now to find an org to join that doesn't require me to be uber :P

Anyone else try all the other MMO's only to come back to this one ?

Yeah, I always come back to AO.  Even after so many years on the market, it's the only MMO I can stand playing.

indeed.  I came back couple months ago, and I had realized that I was no longer in an org, Easy Company, which was a decent org way back when.  But, I was recruited by...Anarchists of Destruction, who had merged with another org.  grinding mishes never gets old, and the best way to level for awhile, is team mishes.   Or, with my engi, just get the highest lvl mish you can with the best drop and you'll be set.  :)

Despite what people say about it, I will still keep coming back long after Age of Conan comes out but I'll play both. :P

    Welcome back

Never really left AO, just took some breaks exploring other mmos

Waiting for another mmo to blow my mind, but not holding my breath

Get me a betakey for the warhammer 40,000 mmo and I'll be your friend for ...well at least a month or so

Ah, good ole AO. Was my first MMO, and I still say it is one of the best out there. I keep going back to it, but I just get bored at around the 170 mark.

How I wish for an AO2....but that's obviously not going to happen, especially now with AOC coming up soon.

FunCom recently announced their new custom graphics engine to update the game. Expect to see the first graphics changes within the next year.

AO was one of my first true MMO's. Just recently restarted my account and I am enjoying the game with the passion I had back in 02'. With the new content and expansions in play, there should be no reason for anyone not to revisit their old characters...or create a new account (free).

    See you ingame,

Eh, it's not the graphics I have a problem with (although they do need an update), it's more along the lines of....I can only kill so many hecklers for so long before I want to simply scream...and I HATE Shadowlands.

The whole feel of the game changed when SL was released, and I've never really gotten over it. Yeah, you can stay in RK all the time, I guess, but you'll be gimped, and level far slower.

Plus, I'm still sore over paying 900mill for GA4, (was a good deal back then) and then having SL be announced, and suddenly....well... you get the idea.

So...what we really need IMO, is AO2, without the blasted SL. I miss the old days where it was OT vs Clan, and that's where the focus of the story was. And there was a story back then!!!

I play once in a while for nostalgia...but then it kind of hits me that this isn't "my AO" that I knew and loved.

Yeah, I'm not to big a fan of Shadowlands either.  It's a fantasy hiding in Sci-fi in my opinoin.

Funcom added one free month to my account in order to get me back. I checked it out but damn, the game really lost all its appeal to me. But i will remember it forever as great game, which it was to me back in the days.

AO can really suck you in I find myself playing in three month stretches, I take a little time off and then come right back.  I'm really not sure what it is, but funcom really did something right with this game.  The different character classes and the level of customization gives the game almost endless options to create a new character and try something a little different, or just strip down the one you have and try again.  Engineer is still my favorite pet class in any mmo ever.  I just hope that Conan will be as compelling and have such staying power.

Well, the engine upgrade isn't going to come so much with better character models, etc... It's mostly to bring the game up-to-date where the graphics processing is done on the GPU.

AO is one of the few MMOs still out there that was developed before 3D cards with their own on-board processors were really around, so everything is still handled on the CPU.

The new engine, at least initially, will free up the CPU to handle only things it's supposed to, leaving the graphics chip(s) to do what they're designed to. It will, of course, pave the way for possible future enhancements... better effects.. possible shaders, etc. If it's worth their while, they might release higher resolution textures, or maybe start introducing higher res models - hey they complete re-did Old Athen, didnt' they? :)

Mostly, though, I'd expect the biggest difference people will see will be a much smoother-running game with much less chop... even compared to how little you might get with a powerful CPU.

Then you'll like the fact that the new content/quests coming up is all for Rubi-ka, not SL. Sil wants people to have a reason to explore Rubi-ka again.
