I'd be surprised if they even managed to get EQ2 out by the middle of November. I mean they haven't even started the closed beta testing on that game yet! And they probably aren't likely to start that even until sometime next month at the earliest. They only way that they could release this game by November is if they do a really shoddy job on testing (which SOE always does anyway) and the game will be all buggy and unstable for the first couple months after release. Either way, I still don't expect to see this game until early next year.

Well thats exactly what ive been thinking. How can they possibly hope to release it this year if the beta test hasnt begun yet? Unless the game hits beta in a very complete state....

Trying to hide the cussing now HebrewBomb? Anyways back on topic, like everyone else said, with it not even in Beta there doesn't seem much of a chance for it coming out in November. The only way I think it would be able to is by SOE repeating what it did during SWG and skip a couple of the phases and bring it out in time for christmas.
Yeah they could pull a SWG, take some of the most desired features and leave them for 6 months after retail. Depends how desperate they are to release it before christmas.
After the revolt over the buggy expansions in EQ 1, I think SOE may be re-evaluating its strategies.
SWG's opening wasn't what was expected either, and I doubt it really ever recovered.
If EQ II is to be a success, it's got to meet or exceed expectations. Most of its player base is going to be drawn from EQ 1, and if players go in and are met with a buggy, incomplete mess, EQ II is dead meat.
There's next to no chance EQ2 is going to make it to release this year. Far too many things that need to go on during beta and just not enough time left int he year to get it done. I suppose though they could rush to release before christmas but it'll be another SWG mess which I'm hoping they don't want this time around.

Things can and do happen, but all game store companies only speculate on a time frame. I'm sure this will change again over a period of time, so none should get too upset over it. While Moorgard has said many times, release sometime in 2004, and now saying probably 4th quarter, I wouldn't believe anything unless its official from EQII's website.
I've been expecting this delay, and I expect another one, too. I would be surprised if EQ2 shipped before next year.
In it's defense, though, the game has been developed in such a way that Beta testing will not be as long as usual. What I mean is, similar to World of Warcraft, the game is already very detailed and the polish is starting to happen in development, not after the main systems are all up and functional.
So when the beta test starts, the testers will be surprised by how polished the game seems right away, same as WoW. But this is only what I have read, we'll see what the testers have to say about it when they're allowed to talk.
I think the way Everquest 2 and World of Warcraft are being made is a direct reflection of the competition between companies making mmorpgs and of what we the gamers have been complaining about for years . . . incomplete, buggy, sometimes unplayable mmorpgs at release. I think that SOE and Blizzard are really trying to set a standard with these 2 games to show that a mmorpg can be launched smoothly. I hope they are taking some notes from Cryptic Studios . . .
But even with all of the in-house polish and refinement, I still see both games coming out next year in the first quarter.
I dont see why the hell SOE wouldnt put it out at christmas..I mean hell why wouldnt they want to? Probaly gunna rush it , oh well that just means i get to play it sooner
Whichever game comes out first, WOW or EQ2, has a big advantage. I don't like SoE and dont want to play EQ2 but guess what? If it comes out before WOW I will buy it and try it. If it is good and the service is good and I have time invested in building a character, well, WOW might not even get a shot.
damn, i was looking forward to spending most of my xmas holidays playing eq2 as well ( Well as long as it's delayed to improve the game then guess nobody can really complain, well they can, but they' complain a lot more if they paid for a half-finished product.
Suppose it solves my dilema about WoW and EQ2 then, guess i'll play WoW for a month or two (assuming that doesnt get delayed too) then move to EQ2 when it's out
... so many games.. so little time

Yeah, I think that's the way it's going to go with me, too. There's just enough time for one mmorpg, and if the first one to come out is amazing, why even go out and buy the other?
Well, to asnwer my own question . . . because the other might be eeven more amazing. You never know until you try. In any case, the first one to come out will be getting my bucks at least for 3-6 months.
I agree, who cares which game comes out first. Is this a big competition? does the winner get a prize in the end? If your going to play one game thats great, but just because some of you *cough* Oracle *cough* saw the chance to put down EQ2 in this post, you must really be threatened that this game is right on lvl with your preciouse WoW. And people say it cant be good because beta hasnt come out? does the beta for a game have to come out a certain date for it to be good? Let SOE do it thier own way... in the end it will be a great game.
Comments
Lets see how many games are released just before Christmas.
How many games will postpone or rush to release for the most profitable time.
All I want for Christmas is a new computer with EQ2, WOW and DnL preloaded.
They might bring it back to an earlier date too. It is a good idea to always expect a push back. It happens ALL the time

I can't help to say this but I don't think I wouldn't mind the game starting out like SWG did in the sence of buggyness and unstable.
Disappointing but I was kinda expecting it to happen. At least it gives me more time to save up from a new graphics card.

euh ?
DAoC had a smpooth launch
to need to prove anymore that it can be done imo :P
On they one hand i really want a new mmorpg so i don't want them to wait
on they other hand i know how irretating it is when you get hit by bugs (especailly when they fly in you r mouth)
