Many core gamers can relate to each other when it comes to waiting for "that perfect" MMORPG to come out. I'm waiting for Age of Conan and Spellborn myself. I know you all do like myself and ask questions like "Dang...what should I play that could atleast half way satisfy me until (insert game title here) comes out?" I found something yesterday that definitely "quenches my thirst" until a few MMORPGs worth playing come out.
The game is called Mount & Blade. I'm by no means trying to advertise for them (just check out my previous forum activity if you need proof lol), but just trying to provide something of good taste to my fellow gamers It's a pretty simple game, but the realistic combat system has me hooked big time. Enjoy, and God Bless

this is true mount & blade occupied me for awhile, trust me it will be a refreshing change for many.... if you do pop the like 19 bucks or w/e for the full version it is still fun.... there are also mods out for it too so id say it could keep you guys busy for awhile.... I would also check out

Mount & blade, rakion, and gunz are all games that break the mold for most games/online games id say although mount & blade is basic the concept is still pretty unique it seems so give it a run.
Yep, got Rakion on there too lol
Seriously, the best advice for people waiting for the next big MMORPG is to go play a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GENRE. Sometime completely different. When AoC or WAR or whatever comes out, the MMORPG genre will feel fresher and you'll be able to stomach the grind much better.
Play BioShock, Orange Box, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero, Virtua Fighter, Burnout, etc. If you haven't bought a next-gen console yet, there are plenty of awesome PS2 games. Go play Okami!
That's what I'm doing and it's costing a lot to buy all these great games
Or it will have the opposite effect. =P

I found one good idea while your waitingy for the next BIG MMORPG to come out, is to go retro. Dig out the old MMORPGs of the past which you havnt played in years and enjoy yourself for a month or two. After so long its like a new game.
"Enjoy, and God Bless " ...now there is a awe inspiring battle cry!

Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
I'm taking a break from MMORPGs, and I do think it will be fun once I jump back into a good MMORPG, assuming a good one will release any time soon.
Maybe it will be Conan or Spellborn, who knows? But then again, I thought Vanguard was going to be fun, and well, it wasn't, and the same goes for a lot of recent releases. I'm really waiting on Warhammer, and who knows when that's going to release.
I recently purchased a Wii, and it's actually a lot of fun. It's not serious gaming (is that an oxymoron?) but it's a great party sort of game. Anyone can play, since you just wave the controllers around, and there are lots of multiplayer games. You don't have to pay that much attention to the game, you can just jump in and play, so it's fun even if there's a bunch of people talking and drinking cocktails or whatever.
There's no grinding, and grouping is easy. You just shove the controller into someone's hand and press start.

Taking a break didn't really change much for me. I was out of MMO's for a few years, then got into LOTRO...and only stayed for a few months, mostly because I got a couple friends into the game.
LOTRO is a pretty lackluster game. Of course taking a break won't help, if you jump back into a very bland vanilla sort of game like LOTRO.
It's a combination of taking a break, AND finding a new game that's at least decent.

Play UT3. Watching a person get decapitated in High Definition is the best.
I think that most of us are just playing DoTA, Guild Wars and Dawnspire while we wait.
Right now, me and the Missus' are playing through Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. I gotta admit, multiplayer is more fun in the living room than online.
Theres the problem. MMO's hadn't really changed that much since I left: better graphics, replaced mob grinding with quest grinding, and sucked out some of the depth and compexity.
LOTRO just made me realize that I need a sandbox style MMO. Unfortuneately, we're a little bit short on those at the moment. I've heard a lot of good things about EVE and I have a lot of respect for a company that steps up and does something different, but I just don't think I could get into the setting. Ryzom looks interesting and unique, but it also looks like it's on the way out. As for the new crop, well, lets just say that the ones that actually survive to launch will probably just be more of the same old with a new wrapper...
I tried Dawnspire before the one's I'm playing now, and I'm not too impressed =/
