If society broke down, what would you do?

I'm talking about post-apocalyptic "Mad Max" times. If society broke down and there was no more electricity or oil available. There would be no global trade, and eventually all social services would collapse. In my scenario you no longer have:
- Water supply
- Electricity
- Oil (or fuel)
- Hospitals
- Police
- Firemen
- Road maintenance is gone
We're talking about chaos.
What would you do?

What is up, did you find out that the world is a evil place all of a sudden hehe. The other thread and now this one. What inspired you or opened your eyes that the world is a bad place we live in? Just curious.

I was kinda torn between suicide and the living in the hills one.. I picked the hills one. Of course.. leading a bandit gang does have it's attractions, but I think you would probably end up meeting with Mel Gibson eventually, and no one wants that. The rebuilding society one seemed kinda neat.. being known as the founder of an entire civilization.... That reminds me.. this concept was used in some smut I read, the people off camping in the hills are the only ones left and uh.. *ahem* repopulate with extreme vigor.
I choose go to the hills and live off the land. Reason: Trying to rebuild the society is to no good at all since I didn't like the society much anyway. I don't like leading people either. Organizing a group of bandits wouldn't be to any good as they would kill me for the loot. Kill myself=sux. Walking all the time seems rather tiresome. And no way I would be able to make electricity and such.
I think I'd be 'mad maxing' it... traveling, trying to help people where I can... take what I need and just keep going til I find some place I could make a life for myself. But I doubt I'd be alone doing that... My friends and I would be a vigilant 'Boondock Saints' kinda gang I'm sure. Do what's morally right... cuz the world doesn't need assholes and law's aren't gonna keep you alive anymore. Drastic? Yes. But I've always been vigilant. Character flaw I suppose.

Live off the land. I wouldn't go out of my way to help anyone except the closest of friends. If someone ventured my way and needed help and I felt 100% comfortable with that person. Then maybe I would help them alittle. Sure there would be no modern devices.But meh we all die sometime. I think in more cases than not technology makes society stupider and easier to manipulate for a small group of people. I could careless for the most part about the way society is currently.

Well I'd like to envision this as more of a zombie apocalypse in which case I will get my hands on an Icecream truck and retrofit it with blades coming out of the hubcaps and flamerthrower cannon on the top of it. There shall also be shotguns, chainsaws, and other such implements of slicing and dicing onboard to give those zombies exactly what they deserver.
I shall go from neighborhood to neighbor hood trying to see who is still alive and we shall convert a building of some sort into a fortress against zombies.

I'd hold out at a walmart. Screw the hills
First, more than half the world population would starve to death (already 1/3 the world's population goes to bed hungry every other night.) In the US a single farmer produces to feed near 1000 people, up from 3 to 5 in the 1800s. Without diesel and fertilizer and seed stock farming and produce as we know it would cease.
Add to that, disease. No more modern medicine, drugs, diagnostics, sanitation, fresh water; you get the picture.
Then there is war and unchecked nuks (use it or loose it.) What's the point to a "civilized" society when there is no more means of production nor capacity for worldwide exports. It will be survival of the fittest.
What more than 80% of the world population would do is die within two years
Maybe then the Earth could start to recover!
Hmm. Well, as a lawful evil alignment I lean towards tyranny in a mad world. So, I would attempt to form my own society as a tyranny/empire. It would be harsh, but the aim would be survival and not so much human rights. Assuming we encounter an advanced and nicer society, I would either feign assassination or try to fold the society into the new one.
...unless I deem the new society incapable of surviving, then it's war!
ah but what if that new society (fragile) had access to some resource you greatly desired however a war would despoil the resource and deprive you of what you want.

I'd start a gang. Hell, I've already asked a few people to be my anarchy buddies. We'll go storm a CostCo or something and fend off all takers.

Live off the land, because quite frankly, if we had let outselves let society fall to that extent. I'm not going to bother trying to rebuild just so it can happen again. Besides, real men know how to fend for themselves.
Things are pretty rough her in the West so I suspect we could survive. We have 3 Hydro electric dams and a sizeable area of farmland to support the limited population in our area. Not to mention mines, quarries, lumber, fish and game. Heck the area supported just as large a population as what exists before the advent of oil so I suspect wed be fine. Rough but alive. So I had to pick reestablishing society
Actually on a ironic note the valley im in was picked by alot of survivalists because they knew it was a decent place to start over.
I'd probably just let go of all morality and go on a murder and rape spree for a little while. Hunting down every person weaker than me and killing them in the slowest and most painful way I can think of. Of course, after the novelty wore off I'm not sure what I'd do.
Seriously, after you've dowsed one toddler in kerosene and set them on fire there's just no reason to do again...
Loot anything that I want, and anything I don't want I would smash and set on fire, no sense in leaving anything behind for other people. Maybe even steal from some other people while I am at it, then take the rest of their stuff that I didn't want and smash and burn that too.

well there's a gun somewhere in my house, ammo somewhere as well. Secure that up, with a few days of food, and head to the nearest gun shop. Probably no one there, or w/e just shoot whoevers there, etc. get a bunch of guns and ammo. steal (or use the one I have) a car and load up on fuel (get some fuel tanks) and then head to the nearest costco.
most likely would head to friends/family's houses as well, get a caravan going. probably after getting some extra guns for them, but you know, you could be really into that 'all for one/one fer all' crap and get them first.
obviously then the zombies would start coming, but I'd be ready.

tough debate of staying in Wisconsin or moving south to avoid winters. either way has discomforts. then from there attach myself to some society building operation.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I'd grow my hair out, lose an eye on "accident" for an eyepatch, find a raggedy cloak, and lead a group of bandits for women and beer!
