Does Music Sooth the Beast Inside You?

Rikimaru_XRikimaru_X Member UncommonPosts: 11,718

Right now I'm not feelin all that well. That my best friend...she might ditch our 1 year friendship over a two month relationship. Rikimaru ain't too worried, but it just kinda sucks that a guy would MAKE this girl end a relationship just so that he won't have to worry about a thing getting inbetween. Tomorrow I find out her answer and she has been upset.

Past few days I have been listening to a lot of R&B and on my Mp3 player my top 6 most played songs are all Lloyd (Not rapper Lloyd Banks). And when I listen, it really calms me down, because I be getting mixed feelings and I really have been in such a music phase (even when I am new to the mp3 player) since. It's just another way of meditation (silence works best for me but music that hits and what you can relate to feels better). So I lie down and I listen. Does music kinda do the same for you? Lets your problems go away and just have that alone time with your headphones on?

    Short answer, Yes, generally NIN.

Long answer, personally I would never give an ultimatum to someone and anyone who says 'it's me or your friends' just made the choice for me.  If your friend is considering to leave you behind because some insecure loser wants her to, then I'm sorry but you have to question her character and if you really will be losing something at all other than dead weight.  Maybe I'm too harsh... loyalty is a big issue with me.

Edit: ^and Immature... Insecure, immature loser....

Absolutely. I find myself angry a lot, but rather than take it out on other people, or anything like that, I crank some metal, and it often diffuses my anger, believe it or not. It's made me feel better about a lot of situations, but I have to say, it's only a temporary solution. Need to completely resolve something to get rid of that ache in your belly, music mollifies, but it does not cure.

I use music to moderate my mood all the time, whether to fire me up, or calm me dow, or improve my concentration.  Wide range there, so wide range of music - old school punk to newage to jazz to classical.

So what was the answer? I know. Now I'm being nosey.

Look at it this way - she could be over this guy in another two months, and she'd be back again. Hey, if you ever need some music, I've got a whole list of depressing tunes you can listen to.

I had things like this happen before and girls run back to me and I don't like that.  I know it's gonna end real soon, because "I love you" really don't cut it in 2 much with the invisible leash around your neck. I'll find out tonight and something is telling me to expect her boyfriend to demand her to tell me off or game over. LOL Depressing tunes. Like what?

Me? I'm easy. A girl could do absolutely nothing for me, and I'd be loading the gifts on her. Most people might call me desperate, but I call it nice. Either that or broke. I'd take her back as a friend no matter how many times she left. And dating... You say you've got a boyfriend already? Two? No? A fiance too? So dinner at ten then?

Nah. Sorry to hear about that. Hope everything works out.

Enjoy the movie. Watching people drown always cheers me up.

That kind of drama stuff is some serious BS. hope the best works out for ya!

also music brings out the beast in me, it usually makes me want to jump on my bed while punching the thin air

  • IlliusIllius Member UncommonPosts: 4,142

The beast always rages... on and on.  Music just helps guide it, channel the energy into something more positive.  Even at my mellowest the beast broods in it's cave, eyes alight with burning fires, watching, waiting....

I tend to wake up to rock music.  It's my version of caffeine since I don't drink coffee at all.  I usually crank some Disturbed bring and early and it starts me up and helps me roll out of bed.  There are other times when I get home from work with a particularly tough day where I had to deal with difficult people demanding rediculous things of me with complete lack of common sense that I come home and put on some Jesse Cook classical guitar/flamenco type stuff that helps me unwind and relax.

There are other times when I'm surfing this site, or the web in general or when I'm playing away in some mmo that I turn on some The Crystal Method and just run it in the background.  Other times I've played mellow music while I frag people in Unreal Tournament.  Many times it has happened where I'd be in a very action oriented situation and relaxing music would be playing in the background.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

  • Why soothe it, why not encourage it and ride it to it's emotional climax. Just listen to 'Bodies' by Drowning Pool. If that doesn't get the murder out of your system I don't know what will.

  • Rikimaru_XRikimaru_X Member UncommonPosts: 11,718

I do got music to encourage it, but listening to that at the momment.

Just don't let him listen to Mad World. That is the single saddest song ever, and am convinced to this day, could easily push someone to suicide if they were on the edge. It's like the theme song someone would drown puppies to, it's just... sad.

I think that one's on my list along with One Headlight by the Wallflowers.  Who's it by?

Mad World is by Gary Jules I believe, atleast the original version is.

One song comes to mind while reading through this thread... Lover I Don't Have to Love, by Bright Eyes.  Not entirely sure why but I've had similar situations such as Riki's and that song reminds me of them.

For me, when I'm depressed or in a bad mood the one band that has helped me get over shit is Thursday.  Riki I must recommend listening to "Sugar in the Sacrament" or "Running From the Rain" by Thursday for you to listen to, it just kind of brings me back to myself when something is pressing on my mind.
