In a bind! Where is the perfect desk at?

kurisukurisu Member Posts: 15

This isn't really hardware discussion, but its pretty close... in a way..

There are so many affordable gaming centered devices out there, but so few good chairs. I've been looking around for days now and can't find anything suitable. If anyone has seen a nice desk, has a nice desk, or would like to make some suggestions in my quest for the perfect (affordable) gaming desk.

    My requirements are:

  • Should have a good deal of desk space, enough to fit a lot of junk, food, and two decent sized monitors (should be able to fit a CRT)
  • Decent quality (no one wants something that falls apart)
  • Should be L shaped in order to make use of available room
  • Should have plenty of space underneath for a comfy chair and a very large super full tower case
  • Must not be fugly.

    It would be nice if:

  • It was under 200$ (flexible)
  • Made of metal or solid wood (I've seen a desk that was aluminum and glass, L shaped, and quite large and it apparently only cost 150, though I haven't been able to find one like it)
  • Nice looking

If anyone has any suggestions and wants to help me fulfill my perfect desk dream, please give me your input!

I would primarily use it for Gaming/Media/Programming

For under $200? Good luck. Most L-desks under $200 either don't have enough room, or they are complete piles of poo. I gave up and modified a Z-line desk. The glass and steel was nice, but the keyboard tray was tiny, so I replaced it with one I built. Now the "tray" has built in cup holder, room for an oversized Merc keyboard, and plenty of room for my huge mousepad.

You should quit your dayjob and build desks for gamers. Unless that is your dayjob. In that case, good on ya!

Also try to check out Office Max, Office Depot, and Staples in your area (especially this time of year). There are always office furniture on sale at any one or more of those stores - Often netting a huge savings on exactly what you're looking for, if you time it right. You may even wish to look at their websites, to see if anything matches your needs.

For a great desk check out craigslist if you dont mind used stuff!!!

    http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites.html

Its kind of like an online garage sale.  If they have a site for your local area you should definately browse it.

We have found plenty of really nice stuff cheap

Ohh I got a really cool L-shape desk with its matching drawers for only $120 because it was on sale and they constantly had what I was looking for out of stock.  So because they kept me waiting so long they gave me the employee discount and threw in the drawers for free.  I know really awesome deal.  It also came with enough space to hold my CRT monitor, full tower, and 5.1 surround sound system.

However, if you really wanna good deal you should go to IKEA.  You can get some good stuff from there for way cheap.

Some great suggestions here. Now that I think about it, I can probably afford to go higher then 200$

A desk must be shaped so I can twist the monitor and put my feet up with the keyboard in my lap and the mouse in reach. This is the ideal DESK!

    Lesson learned in the past...

confucious say: Do not build big L desk in a room and then loose instructions. When you move you will have to take it apart and all the kings horses and all the kings men will not be able to put the poor desk together again.

    He said that...really.
