After reading, watching a lot about that game ( was asking for beta key with no luck ) I stopped on the post about combat system in their site and ...OMG...I can sure you it will be like Oblivion or similar, so it will suck a lot and game will be another defeat
I love how someone with no experience with the combat system whatsoever is just certain that it will fail.
FYI, you only get into the beta by special invitation. This is a professional project, and we don't let in every Tom, Dick, and Harry who passes by the website.
And from the looks of your post, I really don't want someone like you testing anyway.

For all: Funcom's talk of AOC's combat system, it sure doesn't look much different from World of WarCraft, EverQuest, Guild Wars, or any other fantasy-MMO combat for that matter. Characters swing at the air in front of them, and you get no real sense of physical contact -- so battles involving more than a couple characters look like nonsensical chaos to the untrained eye. That's not a criticism of just Age of Conan, per se, but of the whole genre in general -- and to be fair, a terrible Internet connection made for less-than-ideal demo conditions -- but we really need to sit down and actually play AOC before we believe Funcom's claim that this is a better system than what we're used to.
Such a shame can't link a posted nda break for you, but from the recent official videos contact was so present in all of them, I twitched in my seat.
Not long to wait now till the large scale pvp tests and then hopefully not long after some footage of those in some way, and then again a little while after that a chance to play for ourselves.
One thing for sure though, its not going to be to everyones tastes, but that refreshing difference could be just enough to keep people happy for quite a while.
The thing that is different though is, casters have to have line of sight for direct spells, melee has a set area in that weapon arc for contact. Difference with other games is you have to get yourself in position to do the damage, starting with trying to get to face your foe, to get them in that Arc, or to cast upon them without something blocking the way.
Off your riddlin again? Personally I see it as an improvement, but twitching in your seat while watching clips from an MMO? I can see doing that in a FPS, or Action Game maybe. Not a MMO though.

Haha! I kinda meant say for ex. when watching boxing and getting excited you move your head left to right in a dodging motion, with the seat movement was kinda the same thing haha! Bam, Bosh!, Whack! the sound effects were spot on too :P
It would be just awful if it wasn't stupidly simple like targeting an enemy and mashing your skill buttons until it was dead wouldn't it? I've been wanting a decent mmo to come out where using a bow took more of a fps approach. The game looks good but all most of us can do is sit and read about it.
But seriously the new info on combat and things they changed are up on the website. And combos also work differently now as well. Its not all that bad and still has plenty of differences from other games.
There are also a bunch of posts from a variety of websites on thier mainsite of recent testings and thier opinions of the recent changes. Course Polish will be added in the next 3-4 months.
HEHE and yet all i can recall during this debate is the old school EQ1 where you could target a dragon (exp. neggy/vox) from MANY feet away and some how land blows with your dagger.. even though you were no where near the thing.
So yes i will whole heartidy enjoy this "realistic" combat!
Its going to be new and fresh combat, its going to be easy to understand but hard to master. There wont be auto attack shortcuts. It will be unlike any mmorpg you have played before, its going to feel "new" to alot of people. Its going to be awesome!
Thats what I think!!
Hey Avery, you got any info on collision detection?
I read about a year ago or longer from conan.ch, i think was the site, it had quote from developers describing collision detection in player formations and Mount formations. The fact that cavalry charges would have knockback effect unless they were charging players that were armed with lances.
I havent heared anything on collision detection since, or cavalry charges and knockback effect and such, wanted to know if you have?
OP's post simplified: Oh No! the game is going to be crap! I have no real basis for this statement, which I even admitted to you when I said I didn't get the beta key. I guess I'll just pretend to know so that I have something to say, because lack the ability to form an opinion of my own.

A.) Two characters will not be able to move through each other, period. In the case of a densely packed formation, the only way to pass through is by making a hole one way or another. Via killing or sheer momentum (cavalry charge for the most part). The mass of a group does count overall, a hundred men standing together is much tougher to physically move than a handful. Similarly, the force of a charge of any variety is amplified by the mass and therefore inertia behind it.
B.) A character that is hit and knocked aside/trampled by a charging mount will recieve a significant amount of damage, whether or not the rider actually hit with a weapon. Of course a set polearm thrust from a charge is quite devastating, though often difficult to pull off. Mounts are realistic enough in their systems that if a rider misses the first time, he will have a hard time getting turned around for another charge without coming to a dead stop (which can of course be a deadly mistake with pissed off enemies around).
C.) collision detection is modified in cities to prevent problems such as A-holes standing in front of doorways.

After reading, watching a lot about that game ( was asking for beta key with no luck ) I stopped on the post about combat system in their site and ...OMG...I can sure you it will be like Oblivion or similar, so it will suck a lot and game will be another defeat, like Guidwars, impressive graphics but unrealistic combat system and AoC will be probably an awesome graphics but dificult to position to fight in melee and much more to throw an arrow, so if you wanna be hunter hehehe...you will get a headeche in 5 minutes of play. I was an entusiast for that game and really want to play another great game other than WoW but....none seems to get the point to make and beat those nasty blizzard guys. Cheers.
Are you stupid...i tech tested a week end and its nothing like oblivion or any other game you have ever played so dont talk shit about something you have no freaking clue about... just a little advise

A few comments:
1) learn to use the "." key its painful reading that long of a run on sentence.
2) your entire post is a guess
3)you have to admit that the possiblity of a more complex combat system than WoW is inriguing and i applaud anyone who tries to make advancements even if they fail.

Do you have a clue what a NDA is or did you test it at a game convention?
Is everyone going to love this combat system? Of course not, some will some will not. No element or game feature will be loved by everyone.
However AoC combat system is not innervation just for the sake of it, there is reason and purpose, it seems to 'fit' into the intended style of the game. If done well it will add to the game in general as well as adding a new stle of play.
I think many will be pleasantly surprised but 'a combat system does not a game make'.

Heh, no kidding, Oblivion had its problems, including in the combat system category, but it still was a damn fine game in more than one way.

Im looking forward to trying that 'difference'

Combat should be a mess...ever watch Braveheart?

Man when you said that
THE COMBAT WILL BE A MESS, YOU WILL SEE....
I hought you had some beta facts or something to back your statement up. Your just giving us your opinion....so, it means nothing to me.
Tenebroso every time I see your avatar I crack up.
sorry for off topic again, I blame it on Mr. Daniels
