Coming close to the danger to out myself as a retro gaming junky, I wanted to ask you guys if you know some interesting MUDs with an interesting setting. Particularly I am looking for one, where users are allowed to create their own rooms and interactive objects. as a fan of tesxt adventures I have often attempted to write one myself (then with qbasic, which was pretty simple, but a pain i.t.a.). I usually prefer a sci-fi setting, but I also likefantasy or more realistic settings.
Edit: horrible English ^^

The only real Text game I was ever a big fan of was
Realms of Kaos.

It's pretty fun to me, but that's because it was the second online game I tried.
Neptus - FFXI - Pandemonium
Neptus - WoW - Detheroc
ah cool. gotta check that out as soon as I am home
Aardwolf. You also might want to use something like zMUD (assuming its still around) to use as your front end.
ah that seems pretty cool. If I have understood it correctly, it is some kind of MUD client, right?!
Yeah. Back in the day, zMUD was the premire MUD client. You start zMUD, then log into the MUD from that. It has a bunch of features that makes playing much easier. Mostly UI type stuff.
I know what I'm about to say is becoming a little cliche, but... Gemstone IV. You have to pay like $30 a month though for a Platinum subscription which at some point allows you to create your own rooms as a player in the game I think. I could be wrong; I just remember reading something about that. If that doesn't work, you can always choose to work as a world-making GM for a MUD that has a comprehensible coding language and then play it...

$30 is quite a lot. But true, working as a GM is probably a good possibility (played this game where you could basically become a Q after you have finished the game; as a Q you could basically rewrite the game and create new cities and planets)I know what I'm about to say is becoming a little cliche, but... but there should be free MUDs where the average user has the ability to create his own room. I only know that because I have written about those way back in my bachelor's dissertation, but all of teh games I mentioned then do not exist anymore

True, which is one of the reasons I never signed up for a Platinum account. The Q deal sounds a bit like Star Trek: TNG to me. It does seem like I read about that not too many years ago - about there being free MUDs out there that let you create your own worlds. Hmmm... Best of luck at any rate.

thanks for the tips anyways
true teh thing with the Qs was taken from TNG, but the MUD itself did not exactly stick to that universe.
I don't know of any MUDs that let you create your own content like that. Most of them are pretty locked down unless you are granted significant privilages by the Imp(limentor). However, I know some MUSHes that do allow for you to create your own rooms and other objects; not all of them allowed it, some did, and almost all of the ones I logged into had some method of gaining that privilage.
In particular, with MUDs, you had to know a good bit of the right kind of code before you'd be allowed to mess with the game. I never did any of that with MUDs, but I did build things on MUSHes.

Knock yourself out. I've run a couple MUDs, and have played on hundreds. If you like PVP, look for a godwars mud, other than that.. pick whatever looks interesting.

wow pyro. thanks. that is a pretty good resource. this weekend I will have sore fingers from the keyboard (a pervert who thinks sth. else ^^)
I played MUSH a lot more than MUD. I rememebr coding the heck out of a dragonprince and another with Vampire: The MAsquerade theme. Ah, good times
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Now that was the term I was looking for all the time!! I vaguely remembered that there are tiny differences with regards to the different text based virtual worlds. Well thx Czzarre
