i don't see a problem with harsh guild leaders if you don't like it's probably because it was directed at you and if you quit they're not going to think it's a big loss. If you are not on the receiving end of it you think to yourself I'm glad someone said something to put whoever in his/her place. All this hinges on the guy doing the yelling having a clue though.
There are a lot of sheep out there though that don't seem to understand that a guild is lead by someone with 2 arms and 2legs just like them, those people are scary.
Nothing agianst you in anyway but if you have a good guild then there would never be a need to act like the people in those videos. There would never be a need to go crazy. The problem I see a lot of guilds have and the reason they never go anywhere is because they accept every single member that happens to apply. If you let every person know that you are for example a pvp focused guild and have a trail month to see if they fit in and can play up to your standards then you will never have a problem or have a need to lash out at someone. Another rule that should be in place in any new guild is the fun first rule because win or lose everyone plays GAMES to have fun. Keep people who have no life outside of the game out of the guild no matter what. After they have shown they can do everying else the biggest determining factor for us is if they have a life outside of game X.
Guilds leaders who act like this have already failed at the postion and in turn the guild is doomed to do the same thing. Sorry but if your in a guild where this behavior is ok then your in a losing guild.
The Onyxia guy is an ass. Troxed Soundboard, on the other hand, is one of those that makes me want to join the guild.
That is amazing. That soundboard is the best thing ever. Especially check out "Know WTF to do." I've wanted to drive those idiots heads through a wall repeatedly.
In any case, the simple answer is "because we are tired of idiots, and frankly, if you're not, you're probably one of those people getting yelled at."
Also "Keeb heals" was one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
But here's an idea. They don't give a crap how you play the game. Why not extend them the same courtesy?

People like that kill the soul of MMO's. Good old fun is what I seek, I'd like to avoid people like that and would enjoy not seeing them play the games I do. Just because someone isn't as good as you; do you really think they deserve to be yelled at? If so, I guess your girlfriend doesn't play... if you have one.
The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts., therefore guard accordingly; and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue, and reasonable nature.
Ok I want to know what he means by that now, had to look it up, damn you.
Well its something you have to come to on your own, but in a pulp fiction sense its like Star Wars. The Dark Side is a slippery path so to speak.
When you are covetuous or greedy or vicisous or completely unreasonable to suit your own ends, then you put yourself in a mental state where you excuse anything and are therefore more likely to again have and bow to thoughts like that.
Why is that bad? Because on some level you know those thoughts are unworthy and dirty. They make you feel low and dirty.
If you want to feel good about yourself you need to both think and act virtuously, because on some level you really do hold yourself to account.
Similarly when you do this for yourself you find you do it for others and you wind up in much less crazy realationships with others. You stop making excuses for yourself and you stop making excuses for others.
This is a damn good post.

I have one. Nice implication though. Its good to see you can have a mature discussion without implying insulting things about people in an attempt to annoy them and reduce the amount of rational discussion. In fact, judging from your initially hostile reaction, and immature attempt to needle and enrage me, I would say it is you who probably has difficulty in personal relationships. It is likely that you have an underdeveloped ego which renders you incapable of allowing your worldview to incorporate the fact that others often experience things differently from the way you do, and that there is no basic incorrectness in this differing worldview.
This would place you as male, around ages 16-17, probably involved in one or more relationships that were either failed, or one-sided (i.e. crush). Possibly currently in a relationship, due to the nature of the taunt, but insecure about the time the relationship will last. If you are older, it indicates an emotional immaturity. Many students newly entering college have that hallmark immaturity, but few leaving it do - either they develop a more emotionally mature outlook, or they fail and drop out.
Or, in colloquial terms: "Right back at ya, bro."
On the subject of MMORPGs, I personally, I don't care if people aren't as good as me. It makes no difference to me at all.
But when people come along to raids, when people say they are good enough to raid, then it says I have a basic level of commitment. Not, say, crazy level - I don't care if you play 2 or 5 or 10 hours outside of the raid. Many of the top raiders spend only 10-20 hours a week in game. Bowling two nights a week at a club takes as much time.
No, what I want is basically three things:
1) A basic desire to be there, and learn the encounter, and work with others. If you don't have that - why are you there?
2) The ability to communicate with others - listen to what they say, and tell them what they need to do when things are going wrong.
3) The basic skill required to down the boss - if you don't have the skill, and aren't willing to put the time and effort into learning the game required to acquire it, don't show up.

Some guild leaders are just oto picky for their own good. The last guild I was in had a leader that was picky about details. Sometimes she would get frustrated and tell people off. Then I would tell her off and suddenly the whole guild would be in a bit of an uproar trying to calm us all down. I would repeatedly have to tell her, "It does not matter if _________ is messing up ________. We are still winning every fight and having fun."
People put up with crappy leaders like that because the guild is huge and it gets them their items and accomplishments.
I can't stand guilds that demand you spec and play a certain way with your character. WoW is notorious for having high end guilds demand this of players. I don't want to be a healing paladin, I want to tank. That is what I'm good at. If you won't keep me in guild just because I don't spec the way you want, then fine.
this is why i created a casual guild, no rules, no stupid details, just a place to hang out and have fun. We now span 5 mmos, 300+ members, 120+ active on forums, and having a blast 5 years and counting
Thats normal mass like to be controlled by morons look at US (bush anyone:P), mindless drones follow some lunatic, its a historical bahavior of the human race it happend in the passed, today and future and on tha internet to, in games like mmo's nothing new there.

Now im sure many have heard the "Onyxia wipe" and maybe some have heard the "Troxxed soundboard". The thing that gets me is why do people put up with thier crap? I Have a very hardcore successful raid guild, and the leader would NEVER treat anyone like that. if he treated me like that i would tell his ass off. I just don't get why people deal with it and take the abuse.
Some people put up with it if others do it, then perhaps they don't feel like being the only one speaking up , personally i won't stand for it, went through it once and then in the spirit of others our "leader" got demoted from the guild at the first, then he left him self, since he could not stand not being in control.
There is alot of people out there like Troxxed , imo they all need anger management

Guild politics, in-game conflicts, and what other nonsense, I'd rather create a guild myself and just my loved one to join me. Just the two of us.
