Hmm .. it would be relevant news to a MMORPG forum, don't you think? Nono you see in the world of METALDRAGON (creative..) we should only post about games He likes.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.
I think this was the more interesting piece of news.
World of Warcraft now hosts more than 2 million subscribers in Europe, more than 2.5 million in North America, and approximately 5.5 million in Asia.
They haven't published this breakdown since early last year, so it does lead credence to the other thread in this forum where a WOW representative claimed that servers were actually more crowded today than they've ever been.
The juggernaut continues to roll on and add subscribers faster than they lose them (and they've lost many) so that speak volumes for the success of their latest marketing campaign.

I'd say the Burning Crusade had a lot more to do with the swelling numbers than Mr. T...
If that was true, why would they release that on a public 3rd party website? Plus numbers are weird, warcraft realms has us listed as 4.1m and eu as 2.7m
And Warcraft realms counts alts (they have no way of finding out what charracters are connected to the same account when they do their scans)and not even everyone is counted, only if they are online at the time Warcraft realms does a scan.
Well if you don't mind, i'll stick by a reliable source rather than blizzard's propaganda. They claim us servers have 2m where 4.1m ppl are observed online in the last 30 days. Why would they release lower numbers?
They claim US servers have 2.5 mil SUBSCRIBERS. Warcraft realms displays 4.1m CHARACTERS (a subscriber can have more then 1 character....)
As I said in a thread that got locked due to a post already being around about it.
china got BC for free in october i believe which is probly in the number increase. You also have to remember that it costs no money for a chinese account to stay open per month either. They need to show me the north american and UK subscribers for me to believe its not dying in the west. I will full heartedly believe this will be popular for years in china, korea, japan, and other southeast asia countries. Just look at Starcraft as well staying on highly played game lists due to Korean gamers.
2 pennies an hours along with limited game time allowed per account in china means multiple accounts per user with free accounts+free expansions = very successful in the east.

Bob, go back and click on the link, the answer to your question is right under the title. (or you could read my fine post on the first page that also brought the numbers to light.)

WOW is quite a phenomenon. I applaud their success.
Also I think it really bodes well for the mmo genre as a whole. Because what that 10 million number says is that the potential subscription base is not static. It is no where near static, and it will continue to grow by leaps and bounds, furthering investment and expanding possibilities.
Right now I think we are on the cusp of a gaming revolution of sorts. At one time mmo players were a very small niche. But as the subscription numbers continue to increase and with it the exposure, mmo's will become more mainstream.
One day, I forsee hundreds of millions of people jacked in to virtual persistent worlds.
Missread it, thought that was sold copies or something. None the less, I am surprised this EQ clone that gobbles other peoples ideas like a giant blob is still doing this well in the west.
This shows that executing well and polish is worth a LOT more than just new ideas.

Good for them.
However, if I still played it would have been 10 million + 1 ..which is the true benchmark they just missed
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
I don't think there is any surprise.
WOW is casual friendly, very polished, and has created huge awareness. I would be surprised if it does not pass the 10M mark.
In fact, I am one of those who contributed to the passing of the 10M mark

WOW this totally proves that ZOMG WoW is on the way out!

My point is to inform every MMO fan here that WoW has hit 10mil. That's what my post is about, isn't it?

Good for you in being civil Desetes.
To the rest of you, the OP didn't say "ZOMG, WOW HIT 10 MILLION, THE REST OF YOU ARE LOSERS!"
He didn't say "HOW CAN A GAME SO CRAPPY HIT 10 MILLIION"
All he did was reported news. Is THAT even allowed on a MMO forum anymore? Geez...
If that was true, why would they release that on a public 3rd party website?

10 million people whom all keep beating the dead horse(s).
I bet lots of the new players have never beat this particular horse, dead of alive, before.
