a lovely money maker for the cities of America (does your contry have them?). soon they will zoom in on driver and see if he was chatting on his cell phone to get more loot for their coffers.
soon i will not be able to eat french fries while driving. where does this legislature come from?

Let's see. Just off the top of my head; idiots not talking, eating or doing anything else while driving so there are less accidents and my insurance rates go down.

I'm in the US military here in Germany and they have these cameras all over, not just at stop signs. Do the speed limit and the camera doesn't flash. Seems pretty simple to me. I've never gotten a ticket where other coworker leadfoots have and you get a nice letter in the mail with the a picture of your face in thte driver seat so you can't say "wasn't me".
Its simple, don't speed or run the red lights and you are fine.

maybe its a issue with having to look at the phone when going to call someone? than why do we have new toys such as GPS devices in cars with nice LCD screens? or radios and cd's? or odometers ?
yes yes i know, studies find blah blah blah. but who came up with the studies? the insurance institute is where it all began. they get studies done to show there side of it. lobbyist goes to lobby for it. representative determines if itll hurt or help there politics and than they endorse it. lawmakers get involved and you have less freedom at the guise of safety.
dont expect your insurance rates to go down unless you have a non profit insurance carrier. do you ever get a rebate check from your auto insurance provider? x premiums minus y total claims =money left over to their coffers. my insurance usually gives me ~100 bucks a year back from my premiums. USAA insurance.

Won't that cost a awful lot of money? And if you're eating french fries while driving you must make the steering wheel awfully sticky and with fat on, can't be nice.

You honestly think they are going to ticket you for talking to your wife next to you while driving? Wow.
They have to ticket you based on the fact that you broke an established law. Here in Germany it is illegal to drive and talk on a cell phone with the other hand. Hands free is fine. I'm quite sure states in the US have similar laws. How is the camera going to catch you doing this? Well, its not it would have to simply take photos of every car going by and then a person would have to examine every picture to see if they are breaking a law.

Now if they have these at red lights what do you think they are going to ticket for?
Running red lights and speeding maybe (if the camera is set up for it). If they look and "Hey he/she wasn't wearing a seatbelt and talking on a cellphone." and it was againt the law then yep you can probably be fined.
Just the same as if a cop was sitting at the light and saw you do the same thing.

they are just bringin this to austin. Its hotly debated here about putting more in but what we have discovered is that actually most studies show that the pure number of accidents go UP in cities with the cameras, this will cause your insurance rates to also go up in that area, but the number of fatalties goes down as the accidents become those with a much lower chance to kill a driver ( slower moving rear end collisions vs t-boning someone at 55 MPH).
so it does nothing to improve your insurance and it actually makes it more likely you will be in an accident , but it will most likely be a minor collision with only property damage vs someone dying, but it does save lives. so its a damned if you ,do damned if you dont situation.

Ok, you need to explain your post a bit better here. You are making no sense.
You title your post "computerized red light ticketing cameras" yet then start in on your very first post and continue to now about talking to your wife in the car and on cell phones. What was the point of your post? If someone is talking about places putting in redlight ticket cameras they are most likely referring to catching folks blowing through red lights so they can fine them for doing it and hopefully reduce accidents at that intersection.
If during that shot of you running a red light you were talking on your cellphone AND they catch it on the camera AND it is against the law in your country/state/city, then yeah, they are most likely going to fine you for that on top of the red light.

this thread evolved into why we can't talk on cellphones while driving. please read my previous 2 posts above and you should understand. I do not see logic in banning the use of cell phones while driving giving what they said is, they are a distraction.
what is the difference of talking to my wife next to me while driving or talking to her on the phone while driving. they both involve listening and talking.
or is the word distraction a new defintion to must have 2 hands on the wheel.

Volume to loud on your radio? dont touch you may cause an accident.Drive a manual car ? stay in first you need two hands on the wheel.
Checking your speedo? keep your eyes on the road.
Dont use your air conditioner
Dont wind down your window, dont wind up your window
Dont talk to anybody in the car, dont let anybody talk to you while in the car.
Dont use your indicators.
Dont check your blind spot.
Its revenue raising, just like speed cameras. They dont give two shits if you crash or not, just pay your fine.
thank you for this. you have said it well.not only is it revenue raising, it also gives police another reason to pull you over and search your car.

they recently installed a lot of redlight cameras in albuquerque where i live and its been a huge scandal ever since.
as far as actual safety statistics T boning as a result of redlight camera's at those particular intersections has decreased 5%.
However rear end collisions have gone up 12% this is according to my local news.
The other major problem with these is that it was proven that after installing these camera's the orange lights timing on the interesection was decreased by as much as 30%.
The other part of the scandal is that the tickets from the actual cameras dont run through the court system its actually managed by a private firm somewhere in arizona, a judge, police officer, or any public official never actually is involved at any point. This company also takes 80% of the profit.
However when the bill was passed where i lived the original bill that was signed said the city was not allowed to profit off these camera's and that it was only there to increase public safety however, breaking there promise the city has made 11million dollars that wasn't reported but it was later discovered and leaked that they had.
Overall its the corruption with these that i disagree with.
If i run a red light and get pulled over by a police officer at least i know that the money from that fine will be wasted by my government not some private firm out of state.
thats my disagreement with them is the corruption.
