Will there be low-level PVP a few months after launch?

Can you gain levels by just doing pvp?
The Dev's have promised that you can level to 40 (max level) just doing PVP.  Many player plan to put that claim to the test.

Test? I did the same in DAOC with my Infiltrator so I don't see how it needs to be tested. The formula already exists and is proven to work.

I must have written this with too much serious face.  I meant that many people plan to level up to 40 by only PVPing and skipping the content.

BTW, when DAOC first came out it was not possible to level up in PVP, (except on the Andred/Mordred servers)  that was a feature that was added later to spice up the game.  No way to tell if Mythic will include it in WAR. (unless there's a podcast on the subject, of course)

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of players will spend more time in PvE than in PvP(RvR) areas.  I also bet the percentage of players that only PvP and skip the majority of the PvE stuff will be in the single percentile digits.

I myself figure I'll spend about 60% of my time doing PvE stuff and about 40% doing RvR stuff.

Tbh guys I don't think any of your have actually grasped how RVR/PVP or PVE works in WH

    Let me explain

Tier One = will be made up of players between levels 0 - 10, If any players above this level try to get involved in PVP/RVR they will turn into a chicken. PVE wise you just won't earn any points because the NPC's are too low

Tier Two = will be made up of players between 11 - 20 and as above if you try to venture below for any reason ........... you'll lay eggs

    Tier 3 = 21 - 30 rinse and repeat

Tier 4 = 31 - 40(Max level) and you guessed it, rinse and repeat

Sure a level 1 player can venture into another Tier, but I would say good luck with that lol

Also as you get towards the top Tier PVE generally dissapears and makes way for more PVP/RVR

    Amen to that

I see PVE  as a little nice alternative to PVP, nothing more. I'm starting to look forward more and more to this game after seeing how the tier stuff works and that you can make your way up just by doing pvp. Hopefully not too many npc's to screw up the fun. A minimum might be needed, but too much isn't fun.

Do you really think you need all tiers taken, before you can engage the capital city?

Well, it's wrong. If you win on lower tiers it give you extra victory points, nothing more nothing less. So even if the other faction took all lower tiers you can still win all in tier 4 and raid that city.

Wrong. I hope you have some insight in Warhammer Online RvR. Lets say that you and you mate only PvP in Tier four zone and try to raid city?. Well, then I will remake a alt character and start takening control of the lower tier controlled zones. Beside if a remember right you have to have locked all the lower tier zone before you can unlock city raid, but I am not complete sure on that matter. Warhammer Online kinda want you to creater alt character if you want to help to the war effort. War is everywhere.

With your insight, do you *seriously* think that a game is going to be succesful if, in the end when your character is maximized and the whole game still depends on what the lower levels do, which is totally outside of your control?

As far as I remember lower tiers going one way or the other just helps Tier 4 with the addition of points but in the end what happens in Tier 4 is the major swinger.

If you have played DAoC you should know that many high level players created characters for the numerous lower level battlegrounds, especially Thidranki the 20-24 area. These players had no victory points that transfered over to higher tier battlegrounds, and still DAoC managed to keep these areas populated.

Now seeing that Mythic is creating Warhammer, chances are we will see the same results within WAR.

I was actually replying to him and habitually clicked on yours.

Of course the lower tier lock is false info, we all know this.

If the game does work exactly like that in the end then all the lower tier areas will basically become empty(if I remember correclty the chicken is just the current anti gank manuever and up for changes depending on feedback it was originally placed in there to be funny I dont think they're serious about Keeping that for Launch).  Its not that some of us don't grasp how its going to work its that we're curious if thats how its going to stay.  I gather depending on what the beta testers think about it that in the end they'll give us an xp off button or a mentor system so we can group with lower tier'd friends.   Otherwise the lower level tiers will end up like all the other games out there...Empty..and worthless and honestly it'll just get old and grindy if you have to play the same tier four battles over and over again.  A mentor system or xp off system would atleast give everyone a break to play in other areas to keep the game from getting boring.

Interesting post. Yes, there will be low level PVP throughout the game. This is because like all the other games it'll be much easier and cost less for people to twink out a tier 1 or 2 character even if they have their main up at the top levels. This happened a lot in DAoC so the 20-24 battleground was always still pretty active.

But then again...if killing player characters gives you xp...you'll gain levels. Your alt will become a secondary main character. Unless you can block the gain xp feature. Or did I miss something

DAoC at least had a way to block gaining RP's and EXP so you didnt need to level out of a bg.

Of course there will be, wont be on any level as the higher tiers mainly because levels unlock skills, not just new ranks of skills and a lot of your power is going to be driven on knowing your skills.  I plan on having a couple alts and maybe even a low level character if the low level areas are active enough after a few months.  But honestly you look so much cooler at high tiers I dont see why anyone would want to sit around at lower levels.  This isn't like DAOC where armor from level 1+ is generic until you kill dragons and with the absence of buffbots and gear based PVP twinksters won't run rampant in the lower BGs pillaging off gear alone.

They've said there will be a way to prevent from going up in tiers.  Something like you have to visit your trainer before you get sent to the next tier kinda deal.
