I enjoy the game, but if you are expecting a MMOG in the since of finding stuff, camping, earning and hoarding money...then this isn't the game for you. It has a very large community at this time, of which the majority of won't be going anywhere. Cryptic has plans in add a lot of content over the next year to add content, which is the biggest complaint i have heard so far. But from day one they have said they were focusing on making a solid game and up grading content after realse.
If this is your first MMORPG then I would say yes.. Coh is kind of the Training Wheels of MMORPG's..
But if you like content and having the option doing so many different things like Crafting,PVP, exploring, Camping, Dungeons, Items, Indept char development, and a huge world then I would say HELL NO.. This is not the game for you..
I beta tested from Early May untill about 1 month after launch and I must say at first it was the best game I ever played.. Loved it to death, plus the char creation is the best out there.. But once you get pass all the WEee this has some fast pace action and wow my char doesnt look like anyone on.. Thats when you get to the meat and potatos of the game which is nothing more then a boring grind form lvl 1 to the end...
To put it simple this game has no content pass the Hunt indoor (missions) hunt outdoors.. Thats all it has...And you know a game has no content when they were FARMING the END GAME BOSS 3 weeks after the release, on MULTIPLE servers...
Just wait bro soon im sure your going to see them have a free trial as WOW and other games get closer to launch.. Save your money man. This game can get boring fast

Character Creation - Unbelievably cool character creation. I have and know people who have spent hours just making their character. You also get to create alternate costumes that you can switch to at your leisure. They come at lv 20,30 and 40. It's a lot of the fun rerolling characters for the customization/creation aspects available and I think that?s part of the reason why many people play a lot of alts. The other reason is?
Low Levels - The lower levels are a lot of fun. You get new powers and levels pretty quick.
Lack of Lag - This is a BIG one for me. I can?t stand getting lag. I have top of the line system and a smoking speed cable modem, I should not get lag. I have quit some games with a lot of potential solely on lag issues. CoH has basically no lag. I have gotten some in a few zones sometimes around a lot of other characters but much better than most games.
Casual Gamer Friendly - I can log on for half an hour and feel like I accomplished something.
Travel - Once you get a travel power (at lv 14 you have options of getting different travel powers that let you fly/run fast/teleport/superjump), travelling across the maps goes pretty fast. No 20 minute journeys to get to your next location.
Death penalty - CoH gives you 'debt' when you die. No corpse runs, no loss of xp. It's sorta like a loss in that you have to get back your debt. Ie: I die, I get 5000 debt. Now whenever I get experience, half of it goes to the debt and half of it goes to my xp bar until I am out of debt. It just slows your progression for a little while. I find this system better than many out there.
No 'items' - You'll notice this is below on Cons as well. The only 'item' drops you get are enhancements. These are things you put into your powers to make them stronger (make a damage power do more damage, a control power hold for longer, a power more accurate, etc). No other items means no camping, no feeling like you're inferior because you can't Powergame and get the uber loot, etc.
Cons
Higher levels - Similar to pretty much all MMOs, the higher levels start to become a grind. XP slows down in the 30s, and gets really slow at higher 30s/40s. They are still tweaking xp rewards here and there so they might be realizing that people are getting a little frustrated at higher levels with xp gain. Especially because of the next point?
Just fighting - That's pretty much the gist of CoH. There are stories, some are really cool. There are task force missions (a complete story arc you complete with a group with reward at the end) and that's pretty much it. What you have to keep in mind is this is NOT a standard MMO. It's more of an action game. That's what a lot of people like. The action/fighting is fun so you forget that you're gaining levels/grinding.
SuperGroup system - The SuperGroup system sucks. Supergroups are Guilds and there are basically zero options for what to do with them. You create a SuperGroup, you choose your colors, and that's about it. Other than that, its just a place to hang with friends.
No RP - Don't get this game if you want to Roleplay at all. It doesn't happen. Period. I think this just isn't a game that is easily RP'd.
No items - The con of no items is there is nothing to look forward to for drops besides stuff to make powers better. I like getting a cool sword drop or collecting misc drops to go sell and build my wealth. It adds a fun element to an MMO. It also gives that added level of customization of character (sort of, you know in some games, EVERYONE ends up wearing the same uber chest piece etc), but the customization in CoH comes from your costume.
That's my honest assessment of pros and cons. I'm sure someone will come tell me how stupid I am but...um...yea, whatever.
Well thanks everyone, i played CoH at my friends house and i loved it mainly because character custimaztion, the comunity is awsome, love all the ability (flying is my fav) and super groups thanks
Very nice post, the_traveler. My only disagreement is on the roleplay. I play on Virtue (the unofficial roleplaying server) and there are several roleplaying SG's on my server and much roleplaying goes on in Atlas Park. I don't personally participate in it, but I see it all the time.
well I also put the money down for City of heroes a bunch of friends at work were playing it and it got good reviews. However I feel like I wasted $50 . The game is okay however it doesn't really have much content. Heres what I mean
You have missions which is cool for a mmorpg.
You auto aim by pressing tab and you press a button to fire so no real skill needed ( I want a game that doesn't aim for me so my skill is needed also you cannot dodge either the enemies weapons will hit you through a wall so there is not incentive to dodge anything just stand in front of your enemy.
You Pick which powers you use but you cannot buy stuff like weapons armor etc.
Many of the levels are exactly the same its like they use the same room graphics for all the indoor missions
Well I just quit CoH because I got REALLY bored of grinding xp over and over ect....ect...ect. I also got tired of the KSing; I mean it doesn't only exsist in the lower lvls, but also the higher lvls. Try soloing in Bricks, then some childish person comes along and aoe (area of effect) attacks the mobs you are on and kills them all, and you just standing there like "WTF".
This game, I guess, wasn't for me for only having it a month and a half....
I totally agree with Travellers assessment, but I'd also like to add, that this is a totally static enviornment. You are paying $15 a month for what should be a single player game. You could log out for a year, come back and pick up exactly where you left off and not have missed a single thing. It would be like you never left.
This could have been one of the greatest single player games ever if they made it similar to Neverwinter Nights, instead it's one of the worst MMOG's
Originally posted by Warstrike I agree with Traveler's assesment as well- probably because I posted most of it FIRST, whereupon he flamed me, then ripped off my comments and has been regurtitating them as his own ever since. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of lunacy...
Ah, you must be referring to this fair and balance assessment of Pro's and Con's that you spewed forth a while back...
The graphics and gameplay are without doubt the BEST of any MMORPG on the market today. Character creation is simply phenomenal. Navigation is superb, and the sheer physics of the game are incredible.
Sadly, the rest of it doesn't live up to those standards. It's the single most unbalanced game I've -ever- played, and the Devs basically just don't care. The "Scrapper" class is about half as powerful as the "Blaster" class, for example, and the devs just keep buffing Blasters and nerfing Scrappers. It's wierd, boarding on insane.
Also, there's nothing to do but level-grind. No loot, no crafting- nothing. Add to that the fact that it's somehow attracted the very worst of the MMORPG community, and you have a game that could have been AWESOME, but instead only holds your interest for about a month, and only then until you realize that there's maybe three valid Class Builds in the entire game, and 90% of the player base is playing the exact same templates.
It's too bad- their movement and graphics are spectaularly better than, say, AC2 or EverQuest. CoH is the standard by which graphics and controls should be judged. But it's very shallow, and VERY unbalanced, and the Devs act like they've never even heard of any other MMORPGs, let alone played them. Shouldn't Devs be familiar with the state of the art of their chosen genre?
Or maybe it was some other balanced review you had that I don't know of.
And you must be referring to my "flame" where I called you on your "assessment" that Scrappers are half as powerful as Blasters and that there are 3 valid builds and 90% of the player base is playing the same build. LOL
Yea, you're right, our assessments are practically exactly the same. You caught me. /sarcasm
hmm, mayhap you are not only having class envy that your Scrapper is no match for a Blaster, but post envy that your "assessment" is well, a bit lacking, compared to other assessments put forth? You've posted a grand total of 20 times and I would venture a guess (notice also I said GUESS and didn't pass off my thoughts as FACT) that most people that read this forum already know you're full of hooey when you are trying to prove a point that you're making? Unfortunate thing is, had you posted intelligently, you have said some things that are true and valid. But when surrounded by your personal attacks, venom, and spit, and complete exaggerations and downright lies, you have zero credibility.
So there you go, my post in response to yet another post of yours containing a couple of your classics. 1. A lie (you posted this pro's and con's assessment before me and I ripped it off.) 2. A personal attack (imitation is the sincerest form of lunacy). I'm actually quite sane, thankyaverymuch.
