Here's my take on it. When I start a new mmorpg (ones that allow you more than one character per server) I start as a female character and play the dumb noob and say "oh that's so expensive, oh my equipment sucks". Well in every mmorpg I have played there is always some guy who lives in his parents basement who has never had sex and only plays mmorpgs. Well this guy comes up and offers armor, weapons, money, etc. etc. When I have all this, I make my main character, transfer stuff to him, and delete the chick and the poor guys fantasy of having a loving relationship lol.

Yeah well ill be playing a female char in WoW because im so tired of looking at man butt for months on end. In DAoC, as a troll, I had to suffer at looking at BIG man butt. *shudder*
I play depending on the character as well... Have played m,any female characters... It is, after all, a character.
But, to be honest...
The people who need to make a sexuality check are the ones who are hitting on female characters in games. For many reasons, the most important being, you have no idea if the other charcater is played by a guy, you do not know the age of the other person (though they should be an adult).
I never give a female charcater that I meet any more consideration than a male charcater.
at my pervert days, being an 8 grader in a schoold were 90 percent are snobbish high society and 5-10 percent is geeks, and i being the rest,didn't have much else to do, i really feel bad about it tho, going around eww i was disgusting, i didnt touch noone no jsut underskirt,
anyway, i played AO, i know i did a female character to watch

First of all, Yes I do very well understand the strong desire to look at a female character and that some out there are very visually appealing. However I am surprised at the large number of males playing as females, and even a little disturbed by some of you who "play the part". You've got to wonder what are the psychological implications of this and what would Freud think?

By switching to an entirely first-person style, you lighten the load on the client-side video card, causing the world to flow much smoother for them.
Leaving one avatar off won't help this. You will still see everyone elses.
3. Perspective. How many times have you been running around in a cave, town, or forest in your favorite MMORPG (in a 3rd person view), and had the camera suddenly start doing crazy things because it was inside a nearby object, pinned against a canyon wall at an odd angle, or a big monster stepped between it and your avatar? Ever had a character die because you can't see what's going on, even for a second or two? Sure, with a first person view, you can't see what's going on behind you all the time, but how realistic is that anyway?
But there is also the difficulty of doing certain things in FP view. An example is running towards say a cliff and trying to jump to the other side. If you're in FP view you can't really look down to see if you are at an edge and then jump. 3rd person view makes things like this easier.
I do agree with you on immersion though. What pisses me off alot in mmorpgs are radars and the fact that you can see behind you all the time. Kind of ruins certain classes like assasin or theives if you can be seen before you can take action. FP view would get rid of these little annyances.

Well, I have played Female characters alot. I played a few in neverwinter, roleplayed all of them. I played one in FFXI and... Ive played a few in DnD.
Now call me weird all you want but i enjoy roleplaying as something im not which i think it kind of the point of roleplaying. So i try to stay in character as much as I can. I've had sooo many people ask me if im actually a girl and I tell them "What do you think?" I try not to let on that im a guy because then i get harrassed and it breaks the roleplaying. Now if anyone wants to say anything about it you can all talk to my girl and she'll tell you im very straight. I really dont see an issue with roleplaying the opposite sex. I think its actually helped me learn more about what not to say to women and helped me understand my girlfriend more, and well... you understand them more... you get more .
Anywho, my main point is that most guys wouldnt think it was weird if a girl was playing a guy and I dont think its weird if a guy roleplays a girl, as long as they dont take it too far. One of my Females actually had a relationship, now he knew i wasnt actually a girl and we never even got close to anything sexual. Call me what you will, but roleplaying is my thing and if you really want to get into it then we can talk about how there only used to be male actors, kissing scenes would suck.
Just do what you want to do and if you're not comfertible with it then stay away from it, thats all i gotta say.
Oh yeah on last thing, Woman are much better villians and heroes, because they are much better at getting what they want and look badass with a sword and armour.

But personally, I dont feel comfortable with people who play only female characters, AND take on female names. It leads me to thinking why they choose to represent themselves as a female at all? And that butt-looking excuse is crap. Most males play males. Most males dont stare at female butts all the time(there are many other interesting features to stare at), especially in video games.

You have ever thought not to look at the character's butt? I have never payed attention to my character's butt. Even if I did its just a computer generated character. The only butts I stare at are at real female butts. If you can not play the game without starting at the butt, well maybe thats your thing but please don't give me any more details.
I have to say in my opinion the only people I see talk to or see having a discussion about female butts are people just entering puberty or others at the end stages of their "growth spurt". namely ... yes adolecent males with no real sense to relieve their sexual tension other than looking at video games and animated butts.
Thus I see no real reason to even speak about this in general discussions no matter how general it may seem. But to really question ones own sexuality, or lack there of a private life with the opposite sex. Honestly I can care less what you look at in the game who you play and what you dream of doing to an animated butt as long as i do not have to read or have knowledge about it. People shouldnt choose the sex of their characters by their own sex, or by being a perv or whatever. If i am going to create a warrior i want him to be male, because i think of women as weak (sexist maybe, but true most of the time).
However if i am going to play a proper thief, or diplomat then i would pick a woman, because i think of women as sneaky, and talkative (i just realised this sounds like i have a bad impression of women ).
But the point is that i pick gender depending on the role i want to adopt in the world. And if i play a female character i will pretend to be female. If i pick a girl called sarah then when i get asked if i am female i will say 'yes, my name is sarah' because when online as far as i am concerned i am my character, and people shouldnt care if i am male or female.
I try to act how my character would act also, if i am going to play a diplomatic character i will try and talk a lot, make a lot of friends etc. if i am playing an assassin then i will mostly ignore people, because that is what my character would do.
There is a name for this, and it is roleplaying, and its what everyone should do. There shouldnt be talk about 'are you really male or female' because thats real life and nothing to do with the game. It doesnt make you gay if you treat a female character as a female even if it is played by a male.
It is a game. If you are a guy and can't trust yourself to play a female character then don't. But just because you are so insecure that you can't do it, does not mean that there aren't people who can handle it.
Playing a female character just adds another level of roleplaying. There is nothing sexual about playing a "Dungeons and Dragons" style game. Until the characters are actually allowed to have sex, then there is nothing sexual anbout whether you choose to play a female or male character. There just isn't sex in these games. As a male character or a female character, I never act in a sexual manner. The game is about killing monsters and raising the stats of your character.
If I decide I would like to play a slender female elf that wields dual throwing daggers, then that is my character.
If you are playing to find a RL girlfriend in EverQuest (or whatever) then you are the one with sexuality problems. There are many things hindering you in this endeavor. You do not know the sex of theopther person, you do not know their age, they could live 3000 miles from you, etc... No reason to ever even try to begin travelling down that road. For romance, get a real life, for gaming fun, play a character in game, male or female, it doesn't matter.
