Teach me about British politics

I have a general understanding of how the government works and is structured, but I know very little about the varied parties operating today. I'm very curious about the various parties in power, their politics and views, and what the big issues to most citizens of the UK.

I have no particular need for this information, I simply want to get a better grasp of things across the Atlantic.

    FREE NORTH IRELAND!!!

    From my understanding, British Politics is very similiar to an internet chatroom where there is something being discussed; but everyone in the room is busy throwing insults at each other.

    No offence to anyone who likes british politics..But it makes my head spin..

    Basically..Most partys are stupid..and it's like they don't have brain cells..

    I'm thinking of moving out of the country...

    Tony Blair <<< Idiot

    Gordon Brown <<<< Sado...No offence to anybody who likes these guys..

    Northern Ireland is free.

    Free to be part of the U.K. as it's population wishes and have repeatedly voted for.

    As they say in Belfast, never trust a catholic.

    British politics is pretty much the same as any other democratic nation.

    It's a 2 party system. Left and Right wing.

    Hot topics are always health care, immigration, law and order, corruption, economics, foreign policy, taxation, terrorism, EU integration, military support.

    All the parties hold the same view. If one party says something and it sounds smart, the other party adopts it on the same day or risks losing an election.

    I agree with the above poster, thinking about British politics makes me want to emigrate. A surprisingly common response.

    We have 3 main parties:

    Labour: Which under Tony Blair became Conservatives........

    Conservatives: Which under David Cameron are trying to become Labour.......

    Liberal Democrats: The party of alchoolics, gay, and generally home of the lost causes.

    So generally politics in UK looks interesting..............not....

    Are conservatives in the UK the same as conservative in the US?

    In the US, conservatives generally believe in small government, less taxes, pro-life (not all but most), and just less government interference. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I was just wondering if most countries had the same defenitions of conservative and liberal.

    Conservatives = Republicans

    Labour = Democrates

    More or less that s the translation.

    Conservatives = UK is teh rule, Europe is teh shit, the sterling FTW, the British Empire is alive and kicking, polish immigrants make good cappuccinos but steal our benefits, and last but not least, we are homosexuals but officialy homophobic sort of party.

    Labour = Pro Europe, pro multiculturalism, pro money for honor.......pro wasting millions of pound on public health service for then thousands of people dieing of infection due to dirty hospitals, pro bullshit (that was Blair exclusivity though), pro taking illegal money to found their campaign.

    Yes they are pro-fessional wankers (or jerkers in US)

    And don't even get me started on the Lib Dems...............
