JUST started my EVE trial account. Its only been active for about a day now. Spent a total of about 5 hours playing it. Just wanted to say how much I love it. There was a MAJOR learning curve involved but if you read carefully the tutorial then youre fine. When I started I created my character specifically with what I wanted to do in mind (Engineering/Inventing). Then read the rookie chat like it was some sort of survival guide. People spam it with stupid questions that are clearly explained in the tutorial but some were very helpful.
When I decided to join a Corp. it took me a long time to realize how easy it is. I went from one Republic Academy to the next (only like 2 jump away). Then applied to one that seemed to fit my interests and what not. I applied and talked to one of the 'board members' I guess you could call him. He said he was impressed with what I knew and was in the process of getting me in but turned me down because I was on a trial account.
The rest of the time I spent mining and training skills. I had a hard time figuring out how to put ammo on my weapon. Then accidentally dragged it onto the weapon its self and there I had it.
So what I would like to say to anyone thinking about trying the game out, or are in the process, take the time to read or listen to e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. The game is very complicated and takes a lot of time to get just a little understanding. Mess around with stuff, look at your options and what not. Once you get the general idea, everything falls into place. I just got enough of the right materials to start manufacturing a weapon.
Anyway, the game is great. I will probably subscribe if I can get some money in the bank lol. Hope you all try it if you havent, I mean it is free

Welcome to EVE
well thank you. i bought a new ship today that was, to my surprise, very cheap. only 36k i think. its the Minmater Burst.
im also talking to a new corp. Eve University. hope theyll let me join lol.
I think u will have no problems joining EU Corp. They are very helpful indeed.
Welcome.
Cheers
I Came. I Saw. I Kicked its Ass.
Great to hear your enjoying EvE i myself joined up 5 years ago and im stil enjoying the game.
So any questions?
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
When in doubt, right-click.
Keep in mind, in the end it's not what you know, but who you know.
just one: what are the benefits of being in a corp? is it like a guild in a way?
corps are the guilds of EvE, however since the game is so open, every corp kinda does somethin different. for the most part corps are helpful to new players and some will even provide you with ships and such. also you can get help from others to protect you while mining in low sec, null sec area for larger profits. It all depends on what the corps goals are (just ask and they should tell you what their interested in). the only advice i would say is to ask as many questions (about their corp) as they ask you. It shows your interested and also if something they say rubs you the wrong way, their are alot more corps out their. so find the one that fits you best
I started playing recently aswell but i have yet to join a corp, mostly b/c im training up skills and have alot of classes this semester but their are alot that will let you in w/o an SP requirement. have fun!
edit: almost forgot, but im sure you noticed.. alot of corps dont let in people on trial accounts. so its best to wait till you switch to normal subscription to start looking.
Protip: If someone does NOT list at least one positive and one negative about the game they are critiquing, its best to ignore the post.
well i did manage to get into EU. during the interview i had not a single question, right after it concluded a ton flooded my mind. lol. they seem very open to new players. they didnt ask if i was on a trial account or not. i havent gotten too involved yet though. im just mining and mission running atm. they do help a lot though. ive asked several questions and not once was ridiculed lol.
look them up, they have a lot of senior members in it and are rather active from what i can tell. EU is Eve University btw.
They have an add on youtube. They pride themselves on teaching rookies and helping them out. Its their mission in a sense. imo they have other corps but they still help out EU members. CCP even officially recognized them and suggests players apply.
I Came. I Saw. I Kicked its Ass.
lol, really? thats kinda funny.
i think they certainly live up to their reputation though. im sure if i needed some help theyd find a way.
EU is an excellent start.
They take rookie pilots and mold them into something resembling capable players.
Read the given material and take any classes they offer.
When you're ready, they can take you to live in deep space, where you will get to tangle with the snarling dogs of the universe.
I like your attitude. I think you'll do fine.
Welcome to Eve.
EVE U is by far the best player corp for new players, infact that is their main purpose. To bring new players into EVE and teach them the ropes to survive in the vast EVE Universe. You will benifit greatly from what they can teach. You also can stay in EVE U after your training and become a trainer yourself.
Watch your back out there. There are many good people in EVE but there are also many bad. It's about the closest thing to people in life you can get in a MMO. Be carefull who you trust. Just like life.
Welcome to EVE. Great to hear someone actually paid attention to the tutor.
SHOHADAKU
this is such a good game. its been the only thing ive played for the past 3 days lol. its just a good game; i can log on before going to school, hear "skill training complete", and start training another skill. get home, log on, train another skill, then go do homework or whatever i choose.
the missions are also fun. even though i feel overwhelmed when im surrounded by rats and frantically killing/locking/orbiting/killing its very satisfying. ive already lost 1 ship because connection loss during a mission. spent 2hours today jumping from station to station getting my new/replacement parts. i had the 2nd highest insurance so it wasnt THAT bad. went from 300k to 600k in about 2 or 3 hours.
this is one of my favorite MMOs for sure. my favorite is Tabula Rasa which I like too for its casual style, much like EVE.

Welcome to EVE, joining Eve Uni is a good idea as they tend to turn out good players.
The thing about rookie chat is very true, I sometimes pop in with my alt to help out a bit but get very jaded very fast with the constant barrage of questions that can be answered "do the tutorial". As a new player i would suggest that if you do have any questions, stick them on the New Citizens Q&A forum as people there are generally very helpful, and there are some great stickies.
See you in space o7
If I can give two pieces of advice:
1. join the "eve radio" channel in game and tune in to Eve Radio.
2. If you happen not be able to pay for an account at the end of your trial, set a long skill to train. It will be like getting a "present" when you login again when you have the money to activate the account ^^.

Waiting for: GW2
*thumbs up*: GW, Eve(, WoW)
*thumbs down*: MO, GA, FE
thats an idea lol. ive got a few skills that will take like 5D+ to train, ill just set one of those . trained my gunnery skill to level 3 today, takes like 10hrs so ive got about 3 or so left before its finished.
this game just keeps getting better and better. i love how theres no crazy grind to get the max level. its so casual and easy to do what you need, get off, get on later for maybe 5min, and get right back off after accomplishing something.
Hehe wait till u get to the 20+ day skills lol
Wellcome to Eve
i assumed there would be something like that eventually... something i dont look forward to lol.
thanks!
The 20 plus day skills aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be. I actually still consider the 4-6 day skills early on in my characters life far more of a pain then the 20-40day skills. Sure they may be longer but you have far more things to do so the skill learning isn't in your mind as much.
Once you've trained a few long ones they don't feel nearly as bad. Other than anxiously awaiting its completion, it's actually kinda nice getting a break from changing a skill every couple of hours and just playing the game!
Also, a very useful tool for skill planning:
http://evemon.battleclinic.com/
Shows when your current skill will finish training when you're not even in game, allows you to create a plan and arrange skills so they will finish when you're available to change them / you can see how long it will take to train for some ship / module, can show you all the skills you need to train to fly some ship / use some module, etc...
wow thats sweet, Rayalist. ill check that out. ive got about 15hours left training my refining skill to level 4 i think
