Hi I'm 27. I have been playing online rpgs since i was 18. I'm usually extreamly picky when it comes to online rpgs. I don't like most of them because I find now these game companys dont put as much time or quality in their games anymore. The only ones i liked were Starwars galaxies (When it was good before SOE messed it up), EvE online, Everquest 2, and World of Warcraft.
I was preparing myself for another crappy game to try out....I downloaded the demo and was really really impressed by the game. ... so I Got the full version and I actually really enjoy playing this game alot. Been playing world of warcraft for so long i was kinda getting sick of it. So now i switch on Hellgate for fun.
This game has alot of diablo things in it. I love the character creation is has.. it isnt bland at all. I really like the fact of all the gear and loot you can get with all the differnt assortment of models for the armor and weapons. The musics good, i like the gameplay too.
It has bugs, but what game dosnt?
I give it a 8/10
I dont usually post I just thought I'de give my thoughts on the game since i was seeing so much negativity over the game which I think is alot better then most of the games that have been comming out in the last 3 years

yeah i agree with you for the most part, but I dont get the industry made comment above about my post. As I am totally anti indutstry. Im just stating facts here.
But as for the bugs when it was released I can recall many games that were not polished enough for release? World of Warcraft when it first came out was littered with bugs and so was eq2 just because a game was released to early still dosnt mean its a bad game. And actually thats pretty common now a days too. So get used to it. If you can't handle games with bugs maybe you shouldnt be playing games all together. Because 90% of the games released now are not polished when they are put on the shelves. Especially when game companys have a set time and date that they have to release the game.. it's not the game companys fault that is the industrys fault.... thats a fact
as for the people who are wondering why its on this site. it does have a monthly subsciption plan if you want to get everything out of multiplayer. It even has raiding content in it. That is why it's on mmorpg.com
cheers

No. He's no paid propaganda forum whore at all. Tell us more $ocrates!
At first the game looks nice, but you just have to play till act 2 to change your mind. I didn't like that game for 2 reasons:
-it just repeats forever (all the instances and mobs look the same);
-it doesn't seem to work fine. The shooting system is too bad ( you dodge the shoot but it still hits you - no collision detection ); sometimes you get stuck by worms, but you can't jump over (even if they are 5 inches tall)
They just used Diablo name for selling this game, which is not good, really.
Heh I actually I believe it was put on this site because all the MMO fanboys hyped and demanded it was put on this site...and now people are crucifying it for not being the solid MMO they were hyped into believing it would be.
And then there's guys like us, who'll play any game for fun, and when we find something we like we'll play it despite what the mainstream mass idiots like. Send me a PM Socrates, would like to swap IGN's.
It's as much an rpg as guild wars isn't it?
oh, I guess he didn't really like the game for long...

lol, yeah, he made this thread then a few weeks later made that one. Made no sense to me at all how one can go from praising the game to absolute hate of the game. Oh well.
I'm one of the people who pressed for the game to be added, and after playing to 47 nm elite, I can assure anyone that this game is not even remotely close to an MMO. There is no mail, there is no auction house, you can't link items in chat, five people is max for a group (although they may have increased to 8 for stonehedge), there is no real crafting, and nearly everything is instanced, including chat channels and stations where people meet (e.g. station x has x instances of that station).
I admit, I fell for the hype. I trusted Bill Roper, and I was wrong. Way wrong. Can you believe that Roper still to this very day hypes this game as an MMO? At least Brad McQuaid threw in the towel and knew when he screwed up. Roper's still living in his little dreamland. Yes, McQuaid has more creditiblity to me then Roper.
There are good qualities to HGL, don't get me wrong. Consider the ability to instantly teleport to a group member, or the ability to break down everything you find into base components (although it gets old quick due to a two-click process, way too much trash loot, and small inventory), or the alt/cntrl keys as hotkeys for contextual spells, or even the base combat which many people would agree is actually quite fun to play. But when compared to other games, particularly MMOs, it just sorely underdelivers in nearly every category.

Man I still have my issues of PC Gamer where they looked at the game. I've never heard them claim it to be an MMO on the level of games like WoW and EQ2. I knew from the get go, thanks to preview articles and the like, this was gonna be a mindless hybrid of DOOM (Shoot up tons of zombies and demons) and Diablo (Hack up or toss spells at tons of zombies or demons).
How does it under deliver because you can't freaking send a letter to someone? IT'S FREAKING POST APOCALYPTIC ZOMBIE LONDON!
Sorry, all the people crying over in game mail and item houses crack me up lately. Not trying to troll, it's just, well, when I have hordes upon hordes of demons and legions of hell at my doorstep...the last thing I'm thinking about is "Oh did Timmy31 get my care package today?"
I have very little sympathy with anyone that is pissed that the game isn't a full featured MMO. It was clear from all the previews that it was going to be a Diablo style action RPG. Just because they added the option to sub for a few piddly extra features does not mean it was ever billed as a true MMO. They were quite clear about how utterly pathetic the extra features you got with a sub were (and are, honestly).
It does suck that a few of the (utterly inane) sub features they promised were missing from the launch, but in no preview that I read did it say anywhere that Hellgate was a true full featured MMO. We were never promised mail, housing, crafting, auctions, or any of that stuff. Why did anyone expect it?
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Lmao, funny post. I hope u forgot to write the /sarcasm off part otherwise u are clearly delusional. IT'S FREAKING POST APOCALYPTIC ZOMBIE LONDON! So if there are 30 people in a station why do they go in freaking grps of 5 and not all together.
Not trying to troll, it's just, well, when I have hordes upon hordes of demons and legions of hell at my doorstep...the last thing I'm thinking about is any more than 5 people will be pretty uncomfortable in a railway line, or even worse on the river Thames.
I still hope it was a fun post and u dont actually believe what u wrote
Hell, i find this post pretty suspicious too lol. The poster mentions he plays WoW. Players that played WoW certainly knew how crap hellgate is, after comparing.
No boss encounters, no real cynematics, no epic moments, no scripted speech, story progression poorly done, no memorable scenes or characters or choices really.
The core game is fun though. Just really, really, really, Diablo 1 bland.
The problem can't be fixed.
The problem is the randomization of the levels.
Computers can't make levels compelling. Humans do that.

"In news that is either quite a surprise or somewhat expected, given how closely you've been following interviews given by Flagship Studios recently, company CEO and former Blizzard executive Bill Roper revealed that the company's debut title Hellgate: London is to feature a massively multiplayer component as its online side."
"Actually, right when you buy the game, when it launches there will already be content available that you can't get in the single-player--additional monsters, areas, all the community and economy things, you'll be able to form guilds, auction houses, all those things you expect from MMOs."
"Drawing from games such as Guild Wars and of course Diablo II, Roper admits Hellgate: London's online component doesn't necessarily neatly slide into the MMO genre. So is it an MMO? "I think that just as Diablo and Diablo II started this religious argument over whether they're RPGs or not," he mused, "Hellgate will spark that same debate over whether it's an MMO or not." But what does Bill Roper think? "It's really an MMO," he said confidently."
So, tell us all again how they never marketed it as an mmo? More research next time. Kthnxbye.
"its really an MMO" said bill, glancing at warcraft and rubbing his palms.
Lol.
If anyone deserves to die poor, he does.
i need help because i downloaded the hellgate demo and when i start it up there a black screen but theres also music in the background. i need help plz thx
Yes. It IS a great game, and it by far surpasses any Diablo clone created to date. But at the same time it didn't succeed in replacing Diablo as `the game to beat.' It's not Diablo, but it is definitely the best attempt by far. I would give it a very close second place. And if you don't compare it to Diablo, and simply want to know if it's a good game, then I would even call Hellgate a great game.
