Well from what I know from a year or so ago.. it will have a market.. an area where people kan trade, etc... I assume it'll have levels. not sure.. i think the vids last year might have gave a PlanetSide like impression to some, I kould see how... I personally never thought about it.
IF it is mostly deathmatch as some people have pointed out then I'd suggest QW:ETwhich is out now and no monthly fee
On the other hand if it does bring some hight to the FPS and impose a good "RPG" feel to it... with player housing, crafting.. trade even a mini-game or two then yea.. I'd say its worth the price+monthly fee... i think game makers now thing just shooting stuff mindlessly for hours and hours deserves a fee. last i checked, that was in ever free korean mmo i've played.
From what it looks like, they took the new UT3 engine and made a MMO Mod for it,which isn't really much of a MMOFPS, if you have to join a certain lets say 16/16 player style combat zone. There is no actual sense of military like strategy combat in this game, just all gun ho with rockets. Planetside will still beat Huxley in true MMOFPS any day. If only SOE would just freaking update there graphics engine and Physique to the game, I play PSide in a heartbeat again.
My dream MMOFPS is basiically Pside world + Call of Duty Style Gameplay + BF2 vehicle physics + Crysis Graphics + Current Player Physics = Ultimate MMOFPS.
Have to agree so far looks like a fps not a MMO at all. Doesn't mean its not an MMO, but i don't see it from that vid.
"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one ..." - Thomas Paine
Every time I see a beta video for Huxley, I lose faith in the game.
Now I'm trying not to rush to judgement here because the game is still being worked on. But a deathmatch type setting does not belong in an MMO.
If I want to play deathmatch type games, I'll play it freely on Halo 3 or CoD 4.
I was hoping Huxley would bring something new to the table. Tactical MMOFPS like planeside but bring it to whole new level. Where your guild/sqaud can attack cities, control territory, and work as a team. All I've seen so far is a bunch of rambo's running around like Speedy Gonzales' launching rockets at each other.
I really hope I'm proven wrong, I want this game to be great. I'll probably read the reviews before I go buy it (Depending on the reaction of the reviews of course. )
This game has caught my interest a while back. I want to see how it differentiates from a regular fps like Unreal and see more of the mmo part of the game.
Shouldnt they be showing us stuff that makes it different from a normal online FPS deathmatch. If the whole game is just pointless killing eachother then I might as well just stay with Unreal Tournament 3 which has better graphics and gameplay.

Is that Huxley? damn what a suckass game.. it seems to run inside a webbrowser, with a resolution of what? 100 by 150 pixels. All kinds of strange compression artifacts and...
What?
.. are you saying that was a VIDEO of the game?
That didn't stop the other replies from making judgments about the game graphics!
Seesh!
I bet, with propper editing and mixing, and the right location, World of Warcraft can look like a strategy game, or even a FPS.
This video should not have been leaked to the public. Period.
It's shameful... in the last 3 years it's like mmo designers all became dumb copycats and brainless zombies chewing on each other's remains. At first People could come up with interesting game mechanics, and were not afraid to try new solutions. Now everyone lost his imagination. What is up with that ? The craziest thing is that personally I loved Planetside but then hated it because It was pretty pointless. But now after seeing and playing a bunch of the latest mmos I see how ingenious was compared to them. And all happened after the coming of WoW and the blooming of a mmo-market. Everyone just lost their minds.
ah orginal ideas are over shadowed by profits
the korean gams are made for the prepose of making money with little or no goal of making a great game other then to generate profits. To this end alot of things are left out just because it would cost more money then they preceive it will generate.
example in reasponse to lack of different looks to character (only a few are available) they would not generate any addition profit from add more customizable character appears. The games run on the revoling door instead of tring to make the game better and add expansions and other things to keep players they careless on focus on the word "free" to draw in new players to replace the old. This ends with the game devs not caring about the players and only working on profits and not a good game.
p2p tries to maintain player pop. they focus on new additions and improvements and fixes. gameplay and other player interested are also addressed.
The thing is if a f2p can do the same but would have to have more orginal insight and planning as well as be willing to spend more at the start with an exspectation of profits further down the road. Next they need to plan the characters and community and interactions ahead of time. But even the p2p's arent doing this any more. games are made first ideas for the game world are made concept art is draw base layouts made if at all the world engine is programed. place holders are added. Now the game is in alpha but quest layouts and character design and gameplay is not even touched other then mostly talked about most only in words or names of classes or monsters and so forth. Then the game is fleshed out monsters added cities designed and characters designed.
Very little time is spent here compared to the other stages and sadly this is where the gameplay and character design is actually done. Now you can add to or change the game world (ie graphics updates to cities and characters, adding new areas and items, even a rebuild of items as an improvement) but you cant do a complete rewrite of characters as its the players will change items as they go through the game but your character stays the same.
First plan out gameplay to give players more then just endless killing. (storyline, quest, pvp, raids, houses, collectable items, pets (i would add AA's or character collectablity)) the game community benifits best when players work together plans should include ways where players can easily play together and benifit from playing with others.
Now then you know what players will be doing and you can work on how to make your characters work together and advance in a way such that players can look at their character and see the results of their work and deeds and benifits compared to others. Classes etc.
The gameplay and characters need to be improved. but as of yet its not and sadly there is as of yet no end in sight. companies can profit off of poor games and good games cost more to make and take more planning and insight or inovation ie work. they are turning out alot of poor games to make money and forgo the work to make a good game for a quick buck.
I personally think f2p will be the way of the future. Games are about gameplay for me not fluff like creating a unique char look that you cover with generic armor that everyone wears.
My favorite mmo ever was 10six and basically its you and your "guild" fighting for control of OWNERSHIP of the planet versus other guilds from different factions. There was no fluff at all, no quests, no raids, no skills. I am not saying fluff is bad, I am saying its not needed for a good game. (10six was not and is not f2p but its the perfect setup for a f2p game)
Im not sure if huxley will be free to play ,but there is a good chance since it will have ads and be on the xbox360.
I have followed the game since it was announced. Ive found the concept to be simply amazing from then and still do. Ive seen all the videos but the more i see the more depressed i get. Ive gotten tired of the bunny hopping tactic found in shooters, even with endurance meters its just ridiculous to see it as a viable tactic to run in circles and hoping to evade bullets.
In every fps i played i mastered that tactic and given up on the game due to boredom because it was simply the same ol BS. I hope the game does deliver on other aspects, but im sure ill simply become sick and tired of 20-50 people hopping around like idiots spraying bullets like they r in a gallery.
Perhaps i simply like too much realism in a genre that doesnt need to use it (afterall its a game), but then again BF2 has it and that was my shot at a modern style tactical game.......
I guess time will tell, and i still look forward to trying it out myself. But i sincerely hope the devs stop copying the same crap we've seen in fps since the begining of time.
