Star Wars Galaxies: Exar Kun

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

The folks at Star Wars Galaxies have posted information about Exar Kun, a Sith Lord who will be the focus of an heroic encounter in Chapter 9.

Exar Kun began his Jedi training under Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas. Clashes with his fellow students on Dantooine ended in a violent confrontation, showing hints of the dark side influencing Exar Kun's emotions even at this early stage in his training. Kun also studied the history of the Sith, Force-wielders devoted to the dark side.

Kun's impatience to learn more about the Force took him away from his studies on Dantooine. As he traveled the galaxy, he encountered the spirit of the Dark Jedi Freedon Nadd.

The spirit of Nadd exerted his influence and Exar Kun turned to the Sith and the dark side of the Force.

Way to continually rape the Canon. One Sith master one Sith apprentice dumbasses.   Why the hell is Yoda hiding on degoba when Darthazzwhippa is hanging out in plane sight  in Mos espa?

    Kill it now please

Not that I actually play the game, but using Exar Kun for a heroic encounter could be kind of cool.  A ghostly Kun haunting the Massassi Ruins on Yavin 4 could at least make for an interesting encounter.

To the previous poster: the whole 1 Lord/1 Apprentice rule doesn't really count for Exar Kun, as he kind of predates that by thousands of years.  Actually, the whole 1 Lord / 1 Apprentice rule didn't even count during the Galactic Civil as the Emperor had numerous Dark Jedi under his wing.  He may not have called them Sith, but that's simply semantics.  Truth be told, Star Wars' canon has been mutated so much it's beginning to get difficult to figure out what's part of it and what's not!

Useless unasked for content completely in violation of continuity in the most screwed up and mismanaged mmorpg in the history of the genre.

Its way too funny that every time there is a news article posted about SWG, every goon that is still ticked off about NGE has to piss on the game. Truth is, this is still a very good game with tons to do.  It is better than 95% of the crap games posted on this site.   Deal with it. Truth hurts!

I don't play this game anymore either but i agree let it go losers. For one thing George wrote the story and he can change it any way he likes. Lucas arts has a say in this game and George has a say in lucas arts. I mean look at the upcoming force unleashed game... They created a apprentice for darth vador in between the 3rd and 4th movie. He can do what he wants with the story as he wrote it and you didn't.

Exar Kun is from the Star Wars:  Jedi Academy Trilogy books by Kevin J Anderson. I'm not really that much of a SW geek, I just happen to finish that trilogy not too long ago.

I do wonder how they are going to make the players "shoot" a spirit...

Not only that, but if players fight him now, and wins...

How come Luke didn't know of him when he started his Jedi Academy? How come Exar is still there if he got killed?

Really, it seems to me like someone from SOE put a few "ooh cool! That guy was in kotor! That guy was in this awesome comic I read!" names in a hat and pulled one out.

Since ya know.. There is no thought about the Star Wars story, lore, continuity or anything behind this "WoW" encoun..err heroic encounter.... They might as well put Carth Onasi into the game as a heroic encounter for the Imperials to fight.....

If they'd fix the animations to look a LITTLE more life like than running fourty miles per hour without breaking a sweat, I might play it. Or...even have the gun POINTED in the direction it's firing. Or...not having a million jedi standing around in a circle. OR...Man, do I really have to go on? Kill this piece of crap already.

It doesn't actually say that you'll fight Exar Kun...

They might as well throw in Darth Bane and Jar Jar Binks.   Sorry but throwing in a dead Sith Lord is not worth resubscribing.  These people blew the whole Star Wars canon out the window.

    Heh,

Don't blame me.  I voted for the Meatlump King.

For those still playing it is a welcome addition indeed.

The game is a laughing stock to those that loved the old version and lost it; the same goes for those who heard it was a bad game.

Truth is, it's fun, but it could still be better. Were they making the game "better" before? Yes, but it was taking way too long and there was nothing close to this level of content.

This wasn't posted to draw vets in so much as it is to speak a little more objectively about the game itself.

SWG is forced to dredge into EU lore because LA won't let them do anything with the personalities of the "present day" which is perpetually somewhere between the battles of Yavin and Hoth.

The "rule of two" is only two thousand years old in the "present day", prior to that there was no "rule of two" in regards to Sith.  Exar Kun is four thousand years back, as is the entire KOTOR milieu.

So from a canon standpoint, as SWG is decidely non-canonical by allowing asshats with sabers to openly duel in front of the Theed starport, I have no problems.

At least it's content that might distract you from how buggy and broken the game remains.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

First off...if you don't play this game, go about your business and rant someplace else.  Griefers FTL, tbh...

I can't be arsed to look it up when or if the spirit of Exar Kun was completely vanquished, but the spirts of many dark lords have been involved in many many canon stories.  Some are eventually vanquished completely, others are simply entombed, enshrouded in force energies that keep them from affecting others that happen upon them or actively seek them out.

I'm excited to see how SOE implements this.  Any new content is welcomed, as far as I'm concerned.

If im not mistaken in episode 5 the tree/cave Luke fought the essence of himself (darth vader) is where the final resting place of Exar Kun's spirit was sealed. Thats Dagobah and somehow yoda knew this and thats the reason he chose the planet. As there was so much Dark side there as a result he could not be detected by force users who were hunting jedi. I read this in one of the books but was too interested in Darth Banes story to read the history of Exar Kun. Then I found out the emperor came back 3 times in clones and Im reading about that now...*I know nerd*
But how cool would it be if this is how they introduce Dagobah and move the story along to Episode 5. Either way im stoked and have some special stinky blueberry set aside for when this comes out /thumbsup SOE

The story of the Dark Side Nexus on Yoda's Dagobah is kinda in question but the story I heard was not involving Exar Kun.  In fact, it was said that it was a dark lord that Yoda had fought at one time that caused the nexus.  Exar Kun spirit influanced Kip Durron in the Jedi Academy series by Kevin J. Anderson. This took place on Yavin 4 some years after Return of the Jedi.

Again, EU continuety is very much in question these days.

Seriously. I used to hate this game as much as anyone after the NGE, but since I've come back recently, I've had a good time.

If you hate the game, terrific, speak with your wallet and don't play it.

To just keep crying about it just makes you look sad. Don't you have better things to do than whine on a forum?

Yeah, I used to hate the game because of NGE as much as anyone, but I've been playing the game since Feb. 2008 and have honestly had a good time. If you hate the game, fantastic, move along. Its all been said before and your continuous griefing just makes you look like a sad individual with nothing better to do.
