Based of the May 31st deadline, maybe we're looking at a June release?

Paying to get a spot in the beta?

It's sad to see such a game stooping to these lows.

what are you talking about? game companies do this sort of stuff all the time.

And Abnett for the fucking win, he writes great Warhammer novels.

What game did this that hasn't failed miserably?

Does this apply to people who have machines that quite don't meet the computer specs for the game? will they be accepted if they have a winning code also?

Yup, so far it hasn't changed. They are still shooting for a Q2 or June release.

First off I'm not what I think one would call a Mythic or EA friendly poster.

But no one is paying to get into WAR beta.

You have the option to purchase a magazine... and 20% of those codes will be invited well approx.

I find this hard to compare with Brad McVanguards... "buy this magazine and go right to the front of the line".  Then you were told that "front of the line" meant some.. time.. but not any time soon(tm).  Then there was large debates about what "front of the line" meant in English as compared to Promotese.

No I didn't buy that magazine either.. I was already in VG beta.

Other than that.. I remember paying $1 to have my UO beta disc mailed to me.

    Regardless...

no one has to pay to get in beta.  If you choose to buy this thing... its just that.. your choice.  I'm also not sure I'd buy it for a 1 in 5 chance... if I wasn't interested in it.  Its not even a guarantee... to get in.

I see it as more of a bonus to buying this product.. that you might get an increased chance to be invited.

btw.. since they allow us to say this.

If EAMythic invited me to WAR beta... than ANY body out there has a dang good chance.  Then again you'd have to have seen the endless feedback I sent in regards to DAoC for that to really make a full impact.

If that's true, then fair enough. I wasn't following WoW at the time.

I got into WoW's open beta and I never purchased fileplanet's subscription, or any other for that matter.

oh sorry, i didnt specify, if you wanted into the stress test+first week of open beta you had to have the subscription

  • MagsatoMagsato Member Posts: 230

The question is how early will you get your key? If you only get to be in on the Beta for a few weeks im not usre if its worth it but if you get to stay in Beta until it goes to either Open Beta or Release then I would have no problem dropping 10 bucks to get a few of these keys.

And yes to get into the Stress Test and beginning of Open Beta for WoW you had to have a paid Fileplanet account. I had no problem signing up for Fileplanet to get that either, I enjoyed getting a crack at it before most others did and the same would go for this.

So anyone have any more details on this?

  • KremlikKremlik Member UncommonPosts: 716

So no one has considered the flip side of this promo? Perhaps  it's Gameworkshop (and/or the comic productors in question) trying to spark interest within the comic itself and not EA Mythic trying to force you to 'buy your invites' (which BTW I'm more interesting in then the slighlt boosted level of beta access)?

Sorry but it only me that can see more than just one aspect  of an IP (in this case the MMO) these days?

Plus this is no different then Blizzcon ticket prices and then you get beta invites etc from attending.  That could be considered "buying your way into beta" as well but of course it really isn't.  Buying your way into beta is giving them money for your beta invite and not getting anything else at all.  If a beta invite comes from something else as a bonus then so be it.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

That lowered my thoughts about Mythic. Sure, all companies goal is to earn money, but this just makes me sick. Either you have your open beta and let people buy themselves into it, or you have a closed beta where you can get in by luck. Letting people buy themselves into the closed beta is stupid and wrong.

I've been signed up for the newsletter pretty much since it came out and I've been applied to beta since it you could be apply, yet I've not got an invite. Now I've always considered this system fair, because it's all about the persons luck, that I'm not very lucky I can accept, but just because I don't want to buy a Warhammer comic my chances of entering beta become much slighter.

Just as much as I hate the stupid collector's edition I hate when money is the way to go to get something. A person who has more money than can be awesome and cool in real life, but in the gaming world I want to be his equal even though I'm poor. If you want advantages from having more money to spend then go play Entropia Online!

How do you know this will affect the entry rate of sign ups? Pure speculation.

I don't believe Mythic is receiving the profits from this comic book either. From my perspective, looks like Game Workshop would have much more to do with this idea then Mythic. Looks like smart marketing from both companies to me.

Soo basically you dont have 4 to 5 dollars to buy a comic book..but yet you want to spend 50 dollars on a game and then an additional 15 dollars a month to play it?  This sort of defies common sense.  EA Mythic isn't publishing or writing the comic book.  Its a Warhammer comic book...meaning the benefactors of most of the money is going to Games Workshop & the author.    Not to mention this really isn't anything unusual or out of line they're not saying hey give us 100 dollars and your in.  Its a contest like many before it.

I mean hell techincally your complaint should be I didn't have a ton of money to go to any of the Conventions so I could get a free beta key like they did all last year.   This doesn't lower your chances.  The people involved in contests or the beta keys from cons are going to be invited at a specific period along with the already predefined amount of fresh beta invites.

Its common sense and good business to offer more ways to Warhammer Fans to get in, does it suck a tad?  Yea sure..cause I don't really have time to run down to the local comic shop and pray a copy is left.  Am I going to try? Hell yea.

Now if they pull a Blizz and start giving away real in game collectable contentI might get a little pissed.  I've always felt its severely unfair that there are out of game ways to get collectable cool looking shit (not counting Expansions & Collectors Editions, those ways to me are considered in game and just the norm.  Collectors Editions are....well basically traditional Fan Service.   If your really really really into something...you will find a way to get that Collectors Edition).

So they're not supposed to reward people who have been interested in the Warhammer world for a long time and get these players feedback in beta rather than some regular joe who knows nothing about the lore/game before playing?

Did it lowered your thoughts abouth Blizzard when they made a deal with fileplanet.?

Guese not since your obviously playing it, fanboy alert?

Screw buying comic books.  If Mythic wants cash they should just charge 5.00a month to get in the beta.  Heck, I'd pay the fee gladly.

Wow, shame on people for thinking EA-Mythic, Games Workshop, or Boom! Studios were supposed to be something other than the typical corporation. I didn't know they were supposed to be holding the high ground and trying to popularize Warhammer and it's products at the same time. Seriously, who has not seen a tie-in like this in practically any other business? This is nothing new...

Try not to read into it all with such scrutiny, it's buy this comic book and get a promo code. If you like Warhammer and if you like comics, great! Here is a little bonus for enjoying them both.

This is basically for the price of a pack or two of cigarettes, or a six-pack.

They aren't exactly rewarding players who already have interest in the comic book when they add giant caps letters "OH MY GOD YOU CAN GET INSTANT ACCESS TO THE BETA, PLEASE BUY THIS COMIC BOOK!!!" Seems more to me like it's the other way around, and they want more revenue from the comic book, so they are leeching money from the people they know are desperate to enter the beta.

    It's disgusting, IMO.

What instant access? ... Its not even advertised on WAR's official site or even the Warherald news site..its a Games Workshop promotional contest.  Its their IP their comics they can give away "chances' all they want.   I don't see what the big problem is here for them to hold a contest.  I mean Coke and Pepsi hold contests all the time and all you have to do is buy a soda to get a 'chance' to win.

Seriously complainers over this are the same people who complain over blades of grass not blowing in the wind.  Next it'll be they didn't make my epeen big enough I need a pump I should have the option of getting a free epeen pump!   It makes no real sense.  Contests are contests.  Companies do it all the time.

That is not EA-Mythic, that is BOOM! Studios, and most likely they probably marketed it this way because WAR is a more popular item than the comic book. So if you had some new product you wanted to push and had the backing of a big company, lets say for example Microsoft, you would most likely put in bold letters. BUY OUR NEW PRODUCT AND GET A CHANCE TO WIN A MICROSOFT "Yadayada".

More people recognize WAR before Boom! Studios and their comics. It just makes sense to bold it out first and make it noticeable.

Just to add, if this disgusts you.. you must be disgusted quite often.

And your analogy makes no sense either. Maybe you should grow up and stop putting words in my mouth.

Seriously, it's really obvious that this game has hit "fanboi" status already, as all these people run around crying about how Mythic is allowed to do whatever they want because "they're a corporation, dammit!" Mythic is people, and they have been advertising as people, helping us to understand the game by talking to us in videos and podcasts. Now suddenly they change face and expect me to fork over cash to enter a beta? I don't think so. I think the fact that it's only a chance to enter the beta and not really a full invitation is what makes me even more angry, because they know just how many clueless idiots with too much cash will go out and buy the stupid comic book, get the code, and then throw it straight in the trash. I don't expect corporations to be angels, but they could at least sell me the product straight (and when it's ready to be sold) instead of using trickery and "contests" to leech the consumers.

I'm also entitled to voice my opinion here, and this is how I feel about the decision. If you want to make ridiculous comparisons and snide remarks, then simply leave. It's that easy, really.
