I loved Planetside back then when sooo many people were playing and when I came back to try it you wee lucky to have one big battle a night on the EU server atleast, back then we had sooo many battles on that server.
What they needed to do to keep people is add a world you could care about instead of a genertic bore where noone ever wins anything and all the bases look the same. Theres no land marks or anything and it just becomes boring fighting over the same looking bases over the same looking terrain where the only difference is the colour. Their answer was the caverns and yeh that's great if they were cities on the ground but they wern't and feels like alot of effort to get down there lol.

while everyone has to agree that the game has lost lots of players , it is still fun. it might be boring for soloplayers, but luckily i have an outfit with lots of great folks.
but sorry, it takes a lot of effort to get into the caves? no offense, but that sounds like a new players assessment rather then by someone who has played the game a while (grab vehicle---warp into geowarp----drive down)
I began playing Planetside a couple of years after it was released, so I never saw the days when there were massive battles on several continents. But, I have had a blast playing this game, and can usually find one good fight when I log in. I let mey membership lapse last month; and haven't logged in for months.
Right now, what Planetside needs more than anything else is player-leadership. Many of the great leaders have simply gone; leaving their shoddy second-in-command holding the reigns. What needs to happen is for some of those old outfits to merge so you can get some great outfits instead of 20+ weak outfits.
To reitterate, what this game needs most is leadership.
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon.
In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit
Misinformed nerfs, and overall bad directions drove it into the ground. Wish they would make the game free to play, and put in more advertisements. Then I might play the game again, until then an empty game with only one half decent battle going on at any time is not worth a monthly fee.
F*** I miss those days... This is just another example of how freaking Devs loose their mind and bring in crap that is completly alien.. This game went downhill fast after that crappy expansion brought flails and caves in the mix, and from there it went downhill fast.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
Caves.
Lol.
BFRs.
Rofllmao.
How did they manage to lose the plot so quickly?
It was a great game back in the day. The battles now days are just weak in comparison. Played it from closed beta, when the BFR's came out it really drove away the player base. Sure they nerfed them into the ground but every time I go back it just isn't is fun as it once was.
Gawd that brings back some wonderful memories.
Still a great game without doubt, but the nostalgia from those days long past puts a little lump in my chest. *sniffle*
Thanks for the memories OP.
Caves could have been better utilized as a way to interrupt the typical lattice of bases. It sort of was used that way, but could have been better. Planetside truly died with BFRs, which removed much of the feel and thrill of the game. It turned into mechwarrior.
Anyway, PS needs to go Free 2 Play to get the kind of population it needs now. A damn shame... I loved the game.
OMG..the memories of the best game ever created. Planetside in the day was the most exciting game on the market...nothing...I mean nothing can compare to the rush you'd get hot dropping into a battle whee 1,000+ people were doing their best to kill one another. OMG I loved my time in that game!
