There really isn't any storyline to follow for a Diablo III. All the prime evils were killed. But I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to make something similar to Diablo II with much better graphics.
As for the prime evils you just add a new one. Thats how the Diablo franchise had a sequel because the great warrior that slays daiblo gets corrupted by the gem...etc a new more powerful diablo.
* The problem is that the major backbone that helped create diablo is no longer at blizzard. They have branched off to start flagship. Diablo has been my favorite series of almost any game, but I don't think we'll see another one; atleast not under the diablo title.

Interestingly enough, there already is a Diablo MMO. It's called Diablo, and Diablo II. Those are considered MMOs aren't they? They are Massive, they have multiplayers, and it is online, and it's a game! So, why isn't it already considered an MMO? Because they don't charge any money to play on Blizzard.net?

The accronym for the descriptive title for the genre; MMORPG, is a singular description. What that means is that all the words/terms used within the description are to be used in conjuction with each other to provide a single description of the game genre. That means that you don't seperate each word to take litterally as in; "They are Massive, they have multiplayers, and it is online, and it's a game!", just as RPG(Role Playing Game) has to be put together to describe the genre, you don't take the word "Role" litterally, it works in conjuction with the other descriptive terms to give a description of the genre.
So, the game world in D1 or D2 may be massive enviroment, and it may have multiplayer options that is restricted to a set number of people to play within the online game world that is a role playing enviroment, but all of these things are seperate aspects of the game that are options. As well the enviroment online is not massively multiplayer. So in conclution the game is not described as an MMORPG but is described as a RPG.

I would recomend Mir 3 when open beat starts mid next month. Mir 2 is a great game let down by Games Network who licence the english speaking Mir 2, who run it poorly.

Don't forget there we many lesser evils that still weren't killed (you get to kill Duriel in Act 2, the prince of Pain but there are many others) so perhaps a sequal would revolve around the Lesser Evils trying to bring back the Prime Evils.

Oh, thanks. I feel dumb now. I never even thought of that. (How it is restricted to low numbers of players at one time.) :]

Ummmm...
Guild Wars = Guild Wars.
Diablo 3 = Diablo 3.
Only a few Blizzard North people left to go work on Guild Wars which means it's still VERY possible to create and produce a Diablo 3.
If I had any saying at all in blizzard there would be a diablo 3 on the way, no matter what. I think D2 sold in the area of 2 million copies, the exansion prolly almost as much. Not doing a 3rd installment is horrible biss sense. People would buy it no matter what, they could even take the old one 3D it up a bit add a couple of acts add some bling bling with minimum effort and it would still be a huge huge hit..

I think something will probably be made but I'm not sure if it will be an MMO. I think it will be much like War3. A 3d game with average(not great) graphics, good cutscenes(like always), and some crazy storyline that could happen but is not very likely. It's not very hard to make a sequal these days especially when not much is needed to call it one. After Diablo 3 then there might be chances for a Diablo MMO. I think it will be the same for starcraft. Make three games than an MMO. This could change if MMOs become alot more popular than they currently are.
If u check WoW its nothing else than W3 races with D2 classes, meaning its alrerady taken. PLUS Diablo has no races, its only humans VS bad evil. There r no elfs, orcs, bugs, birds... whateva. Theres no way Diablo could turn into an MMORPG.
Now, SC, that could give an MMORPG. It would be bit like SW: Galxies, travelling from world to world, and they could an 1 or 2 new races.

I believe D2 sold more in the neighborhood of 6 million copies
if ur looking for Diablo (3) Online you mite wana look at AC2 14 trial. AC2 is not my cup of tea but when i played it I thought wow this is what Diablo (3) Online would prolly look if its done.

Diablo 3 is a big possibility, as for a Diablo MMORPG, I can see it... I think it would make a perfect MMO... But I doubt they would make it for at least 2 years after WoW due to the fact that it might take away from its success. (People who can't afford both would have to chose)
As for "Do I think the Diablo series will die off soon?" Well, it has just as much chance of dying as Warcraft... So I think it will be around for awhile yet.
i agree that Diablo would not make a very promising MMORPG but i think making one more wouldnt hurt and to take the cake blizzard should make where you have to hack thru several lesser evils, which resurrect all the primes, and then thru all the prime evils from the previous games. Of course they primes be much much harder but hey make fro a great adventure! yes no?

Sorry to burst all of your bubbles, but there will be NO further sequels to Diablo/II. If you are not aware, the entire team that programmed the Diablo games left Blizzard and formed their own company(I forgot what it was called) but Blizzard no longer has any programmers with knowledge of the Diablo/II game structuring.

Last I heard from Blizzard is a definate NO on Diablo 3... something along the lines of "we never want to use Diablo and 3 in the same sentance."
