If i would upgrade my videocard with a geforce 8800GT, how much would that boost my fps for AoC?
Also, would you recommend me buying a 8800GT 256 MB, or a 512MB card?
    Thanks :)
Firstly if your going to do it, get the 512mb 8800GT best price around would probably be this: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3538922&CatId=1826

Its $189 after a $30 mail in rebate. Till end of March then its goes to $219.

I would say over your current system you would see maybe a 30% increase: here you can see the breakdown between the two: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=544&card2=415

If you notice the 8800GT has a higher memory bandwidth and a much better texture fill rate. Thats not to say the X1900GT is shabby because its not. The 8800GT will give you the option of DX10 too for this game or others in the future.

Best way to judge is to go for Open Beta (make sure you applied to beta already) if not wait for a buddy key at release - im sure there will be a few going around ;) Frame rates right now are hard to say because the game is still going optimsation.

Crap I forgot to say that I was told by some devs too, that with dx10 capable cards, these have unified shaders on them which the game will take advantage of whether you run in dx9 or dx10. You can hear a bit on this in the Q&A videos part 1 and 2, I believe from the community event.

The Xbox 360's Graphics Processing Unit developed by ATI also has Unified Shaders!

Unified Shaders are present in Shader Model 4 capable graphics cards read more here for those interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_shader_model

This is also why the game engine was built up from scratch and loosely based on Anarchy Onlines game engine, because AO's game engine was based around Dx7 ! So AoC's game engine was done pretty much from scratch to take advantage of new hardware. A big time evolution.

Allrighty, a 30% increase sounds pretty good to me... i'll be sure to pick one of 'em up before release then. Thanks for letting me know Avery!

I surpass  or meet the requirements, but I plan a few upgrades for Conan (and other non MMO's)...

    Current                        Upgrade

E6600 @ Stock          Quad core Intel (not sure of speed or model yet)

    2 GB DDR2 800         4 GB DDR2 800

8800 GTX                     9800 GTX or GX2 (depending on final performance.  One guy got 19k on 3dmark 06 with                                        a single 9800 GTX...Not too shabby...)

    74 GB Raptor               N/A

    750  GB + 250 GB       N/A

funny thing is...i got this sweet computer that can run AoC but with no internet access.  unfortunately i dont control the net either so i am stuck with this company that refuses to allow more than 1 computer to access the net.

i'l find a way around this before AoC gets here

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

4GB Ram, 4Gz Quad Core... I have recommended Graphic card, but i want a new one, i want everything running smooth.

Only thing i need to buy is Vista, so i can use all the preformance my computer can provide.

    Currently, I have a:

    AMD 64 Athlon X2 4600

    4 GIG DDR 800 RAM

    8800 GTS  320 Graphics Card

Now, lets just say, If you guys dont have at least 2 gigs of ram and a 7900 GT + Graphics card, along with a Dual Processor, you WONT BE ABLE TO RUN THE GAME RIGHT NOW.

How do I know this? Well,,,,,I'd be breaking the NDA If I Finished this sentence.... If that doesn't explain myself without explaining myself, then well,,,ask someone a bit smarter than you what I'm referring to. :)

So, If you really has aspirations of playing AoC, it may be a good idea to save those nickels in your piggy bank, cause come May, the ones with PC's older than 2 years won't be very happy... Thats all I'm gonna say and this post could get deleted since the Administrators aren't stupid..

Thats it for minimal requirements?  Hmmm  if one doesn't have at least that for computer  shouldn't even be playing games.

Gave up long ago for another good online game, but have some hope for this one. I know I will at least buy and try.

I have an AM2 6000+, which I believe is at least on par with the e6600.  Other than that I exceed the recommended requirements.

I guess my old AMD X2 4200 won't be enough...

    Anyway I'm a WAR type

    Perhaps after my next upgrade!

I'm very pleasantly surprised at the minimum required hardware, and actually exceed the "recommended" (yeah me!)

It's funny, I currently play a number of mmos, but the two biggies are WoW and LOTRO - and it's interesting how much better performance wise LOTRO vs. WoW and has such superior graphics.  It all has to do with using DirectX of course, but it's interesting.

Very much looking forward to giving Conan a test.

Heck, one of my old laptops will probably run it just fine for when traveling! (at suitably lower graphic settings)

    Lets see I have:

Intel Pentium Duel E2180 2.00 Ghz

    3 Gig ram

    nVidia GeForce 8500GT 256MB

So looks like I pass min but not recommended.  All well still good enough for me.

specs for what? Running the game on highest settings? No.

Recommended usually means midium video setting and minimum on lowest setting with crappy graphics.

i actually wonder if the high requirements for this game might actually limit its appeal . i think my pc will run it with an extra gb of ram in it but lets face it most pc owners dont nessesarily have high spec games machines . personally i think i ll need a free trial before i buy this to be sure it works otherwise i ll go straight to warhammer .

there will be a lot like me .

    everywhere perhaps :)

  • AOC system requirements:

    Minimum Specifications:

    OS: Windows Vista/XP

    Processor: 3GHz Pentium IV

    RAM: 1GB RAM

Video Card: Shader Model 2.0 and 128MB RAM: NVIDIA GeForce 5800 or ATI 9800

    Recommended Specifications:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz (E6600) or better

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 or better

    RAM: 2GB or more

So much for those "Similar to Oblivion" system requirements. Their minimum is Oblivion's recommended.

I hate to say it, but those steep requirements may have just insured that AoC bombs.

My new laptop exceeds the recommended specs, yet somehow I dont see the game running well on max settings for me. But who knows.
