If they do allow people under 13 to play then the community will be more messed up than it already is.

    ?

I thought the reason why the community was bad was because of young players.

I lost all my dignity a long time ago.

What do you mean more messed up than it is. We Kids have nothing to do with that. So anyway all the kids under 13 play, so it can't get any more worst that it is if it does than u can't blame the age section

LOL, thats so not true, the reason the community is bad is coz how the big people treat the kids. I  mean i am 11, when a person asks me how old are you, i cant trust them so i say 14. Unless its Peter (Zezima) or Skyler (Skychi), and I dont play alone I play with my sis (she doesn't want her age revelied, lol) She created my account so.

It actually is the kids through the age o 9-12.

The community isn't helpful at all, andf the kids have no idea what they are doing,  They also act very immature...

When I logged on for the first time in a while to talk to my friends, some lvl 50 came up to me.  He was probably arounf age 10 or 11.  I wwas wearing absolutely no armour, so he spams noob arounnd 30 times and runs away.

    Good ol' RuneScape community!

P.S.  I was also young when I started playing, and I can easily say I was not a very helpful attribute to the community....

Jagex does not allow players under 13 because of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act

Its a matter of law as they have the free version ad driven

Putting an option that says "please varify your age" and there is no option that says under 13.. It is easy to say that they know they have kids under 13 becoming members, and that they don't care.  The game is obviously kid friendly.

My friend is a lvl 73 and all his secondry skills are less than 40 (except W/C - 55), and he's 11 to, but I have a friend in Runescape she's fourteen and in 7 monthes all her secondy skills(Cooking, W/C, firemaking) are above 60. Its because Older kids can adapt to the game better. But that doesn't mean Little kids shouldn't play. I think Jagex should create a few servers for KIDS under 13,. That would solve the mess you guys are blaming on under 13's.

    When You said Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act- I did a bit of research and I found this in their website;

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998

    TITLE XIII-CHILDREN'S ONLINE PRIVACY PROTECTION

    SEC. 1301. SHORT TITLE.

This title may be cited as the "Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998".

    SEC. 1302. DEFINITIONS.

    In this title:

    (1) CHILD.—The term "child" means an individual under the age of 13.

    (2) OPERATOR.—The term "operator"—

    Source - http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm.

Also the reason, UNDER 13 rule, is because over 13's know stuff (you know......)  And they tell us , I have expereinced this numerous of times.

No, but I hope Jagex has the brains to Organize somthing like that, so same age groups can play with each other for example, they have 188 servers.

    44 - For Children - UNDER 13.

    93 - For TEENS (13-19)

    51- FOR ADULTS (20-60+)

This will help a lot of people, of getting sexulally bullied, and discriminated.

You are correct, kids need to feel more at home on runescape and with only kids on 1 server so they can have a time while playing.

To be honest that is a joke its like please verify your age (Under 13, or 13 and Up) you click under 13 "Sorry you need to be atleast 13 to play this game" then it takes you back to the age select screen -.-

I knew like a kid a few years back who played he was 7 and saved a quater a day by not buying milk at the school to pay for members he was actually pretty good I'm not sure if he still plays but for a little kid online he was kinda mature and I still know a few -13 players but not alot..

No, that's not why.  It's because kids under the age of 13 aren't mature enough to be online, especially on *technically* an online web chat talking to people who knows how old.  If the site is catering to children under the age of 13, they MUST let the parents be notified, so they know what their child is doing.  You are missing out so much information when you put that there.

I personally do not think that children under 13 should be on any site with chat rooms, including games with chat. Yes it would be great if there was some way to determine the persons age but there simply isn;t. They lie then get put into situations they are not ready to understand and  parents these days should not expect online services to  be babysitters.  Until children are old enough , I think they should stick to single player games or playing with friends they know only. The fact is that it is the parents responisbility to monitor their childrens activities not online games, and I think that sites need to be stricter on the age limits than they currently are. If someone says they are 11 playing a game that requires you to be 13 than they should ban them from the game. They had to lie on a contract in order to play in the first place, that in itself is enough to ban the account.  Though I like what yahoo games did with the age options, and the fact that they have 18+ age servers with no chat filters.. still you would have some kid come in there regardless of the rules and that is no place a child should be.  I think there needs to be stricter laws that do not allow children under the age of 13 to be on any online site that has open chat, and hold the parents liable for allowing the children to do so.

I think <13 years should be able to play the game. And by the way who is gonna check on them if they are really 13.

I don't really understand why you have to be 13 years old to play runescape. I mean in whole my runescape-time I never saw blood or something other that scared the hell out of me. So I think it's a pretty stupid rule of jagex. But hey it's their game and not mine so they can do with it whatever the f*ck they want!

That's not even close to the reason.  It's because it's technically a chatroom.  Kids under the age of 13 don't know what to and what not to say when they talk to other people.  Thay dont know who they are talking to, and you never know what kind of information they give away.

in my opinion age does not matter it's your maturity, i know people who are 40 and act like there 16 for example my uncle is like 45 and lives on his moms couch in the family room been there for like 3 years now and the way he talks and everything about him exactly resembles a 16 year old, i have met kids playing mmo's who were 12 and i would of pegged them at 20 or so but of course this is just my opinion

That is exactly the problem ... You have no idea what the age of the person who is present, so you have old men talking to little kids in a manner that is not appropriate. Though there are chat filters and rules this still occurs all of the time. Those younger children are not ready to be put into those situations, and should not be in chat rooms even on games at all because it is a well known fact that this occurs more often than not. Regardless of how they may seem mature they are still just little kids. You know this game can be played from prison and is? Though I think the 13 age limit needs to be raised for chat rooms, a 13 year old should have enough common sense to somewhat understand what is going on and hopefully be able to remove themselves from the situation. The younger children are not prepared for this and should not be exposed to the situation in the first place.  I have seen 50 year old truck drivers have 12 year old lilttle girlfriends on the game and that is just sick.  Parents need to take more responsibility for what their children do and stop expecting games to babysit.  If you have parent controls set appropriately you cannot play runescape at all for a reason.... they have no business playing it in the first place.

There is an option and if you select it you are not able to make an account.  If you lie and say your over 13 when your not, then you are breaking the terms and conditions and they can ban you any way.

In a few countries it will soon be law to disallow under 13s to transfer personal details online (like making game accounts) without written parental consent.

You can count on other (if not all) MMOs being forced into it eventually.  Jagex is just staying a step ahead so they are prepared.

If they actually cared about that, then there would be a lot of banned players right now.
