Mexico reconquers California? Absolut drinks to that!

gnomexxxgnomexxx Member Posts: 2,920

WTF?!?!?!  See if I buy another bottle of Absolut!

This should outrage everyone in America to the point of letting their money do the talking.  You think Mexico is so great Absolut?  Well, then you see which economy is keeping you afloat more.  Welcome to the idea of free market American style.  You screw with us you get "Absolut hell" from this countries good people!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mexico reconquers California? Absolut drinks to that!

The latest advertising campaign in Mexico from Swedish vodka maker Absolut promises to push all the right buttons south of the U.S. border, but it could ruffle a few feathers in El Norte.

Absolut

The billboard and press campaign, created by advertising agency TeranTBWA  and now running in Mexico, is a colorful map depicting what the Americas might look like in an "Absolut" -- i.e., perfect -- world.

The U.S.-Mexico border lies where it was before the Mexican-American war of 1848 when California, as we now know it, was Mexican territory and known as Alta California.

Following the war, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo saw the Mexican territories of Alta California and Santa Fé de Nuevo México ceded to the United States to become modern-day California, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. (Texas actually split from Mexico several years earlier to form a breakaway republic, and was voluntarily annexed by the United States in 1846.)

The campaign taps into the national pride of Mexicans, according to Favio Ucedo, creative director of leading Latino advertising agency Grupo Gallegos in the U.S.

Ucedo, who is from Argentina, said: “Mexicans talk about how the Americans stole their land, so this is their way of reclaiming it. It’s very relevant and the Mexicans will love the idea.”

But he said that were the campaign to run in the United States, it might fall flat.

“Many people aren’t going to understand it here. Americans in the East and the North or in the center of the county -- I don’t know if they know much about the history.

“Probably Americans in Texas and California understand perfectly and I don’t know how they’d take it.”

Meanwhile, the campaign has been circulating on the blogs and generating strong responses from people north of the border.

“I find this ad deeply offensive, and needlessly divisive. I will now make a point of drinking other brands. And 'vodka and tonic' is my drink,” said one visitor, called New Yorker, on MexicoReporter.com.

Reader Paul Green goes into a discussion on the blog Gateway Pundit of whether the U.S. territories ever belonged to Mexico in the first place, and the News12 Long island site invited people to boycott Absolut, with one user, called LivingSmall, writing: “If you drink Absolut vodka, you can voice your approval or disapproval of this advertising campaign with your purchases. I know I will be switching to Grey Goose or Stoli and will never have another bottle of Absolut in my house.

“Hey Absolut ... that's my form of social commentary.”

Yep saw it at http://www.michaelsavage.com/ last night, no big deal i hardly drink and then only a beer.

And to tell the truth i like Mexicans, they work hard shoulder to shoulder with me, or have in the past.

A lot harder than some  of these worthless whiteboys almost makes cry.

It's just too bad Mexico is such a poorly ran country and a real shithole in some areas, you want to see poverty go to Mexico. .Poverty teaches you one of 3 things,1st work hard and make money,or get on welfare and suck money off of liberal cocksuckers. or lay down and die. I lived on the street for a year i know.

They just need to learn English. They already know how to work hard like Real Americans.

     And fuck Absolut vodka

I think you're all being absolutely being EXTREMELY childish.

Don't be too cocky about the poverty of Mexico.

Population living below national poverty line (%) (CIA)

    Flag of Mexico Mexico   13.8

Flag of the United States United States   12

And even then... Why the smug attitude? The US is worse in some aspects than some countries, just like Mexico is.

And don't Americans dream of a different reality in which their country rules supreme? Of course they do. Hell, there's a whole economy dedicated to that, called Hollywood (fine example: The Patriot).

    Anything wrong with that? Nah.

I saw the same thing on Michael Savage. That map is already reality....hell, just look in those states. Im not bashing Mexicans but if I were able I would kick every damn illegal mexican (and chinese, russian, german, cuban, etc) back to their damn country and FORCE them to do it the right way.

I only use Mexico as an example because over 90% of the Illegal aliens are latino.  They go to our hospitals for free, they get a free education, they get foodstamps, they get welfare (thank God, California changed that). I cant stand em.  Do it like every other red blooded immigrant did it. Take the DAMN citizinship route to be a citizen.

But they wont, they want the free cash.  My grandfather came from Italy. He did it the right way. He didn't hide in no damn ship crate and smuggled himself here and then mooch from the country.

Madace, your numbers are horribly wrong.

Theyre view of poverty is like making 1000 a year. Our view of pverty is making about 16,000 a year.  Plus, if they were only slightly higher than ours, why the hell are they risking their lives to hope a damn fence? For a better vehicle deal at Uncle Keeb's Auto Warehouse?

And don't get me started with illegals and damn car insurance.  90% of every person I call (im an adjuster for an insurance company) that is uninsured is a damn illegal alien. The person they hit with their car gets NOTHING! They can't get sued and it never goes to court so the people these illegal aliens hit with their car are screwed but they'll go out and get another car and pop out two more kids so they can get more welfare.

Damn crooks, every single illegal alien who comes here needs a kick in the pants and shipped back and then be made to do it the LEGAL way.

Damn libs just like hugging illegals and cry for them.  Michael Savage was SO right. Libralism is a mental disorder.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Why the US suffers so much immigration? For one, more money to be made in the US and a higher standard of living. In mexico it might be possible to live reasonably comfortably with half of the normal US wages (just a general example, not sure about the exact figures). So Mexicans would asume they're better off in the US.

I don't mind the Mexican people either.  That's got nothing to do with it.  It has to do with national sovereignty.  There is a purpose for that.  It keeps countries competing with each other, instills a sense of nationalism and pride, and forces nations to deal with their problems instead of pushing them off on somebody else.

WASHINGTON - Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff on Monday invoked his power to bypass certain laws to restart construction of a fence on the Arizona-Mexico border.Chertoff's action allows construction to go forward on about seven miles of fence in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area near Naco, Ariz.Work on nearly two miles of the fence had been suspended since Oct. 10, when a federal district judge ordered a delay on its construction. She ruled the federal government did not fully study the environmental impact of the fence.Congress gave Chertoff the power to waive environmental and other laws to build border barriers when it passed the REAL ID Act in 2005.The REAL ID Act requires standards for driver's licenses that will be required as identification to board planes and enter federal buildings. The standards are still being developed. This is the third time Chertoff has used the waiver power. He also used it Sept. 22, 2005 to finish building 14 miles of fence in San Diego, and on Jan. 19 for fencing in the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range in Arizona.Chertoff said he was not invoking the power simply to brush aside environmental laws.We are trying to respect the substance of the environmental process and we are using the waiver authority where it looks like people are simply trying to stop or slow us down by throwing up procedural obstacles" and using litigation, Chertoff told The Associated Press in a phone interview.A few of the environmental laws waived are the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act and the Solid Waste Disposal Act.Chertoff also waived conservation laws, such as the National Historic Preservation Act and the Antiquities Act.

The Berlin Wall was so effective that it had to be torn down.Just when u think all is lost, here comes a surprise.Someone told me once that fences make great neighors orsomething like that.

So you're saying you work harder than Mexicans? THat's BS and you know it. According to your logic the amount of hours you work, would determine the amount of money you get and the prosperity of the country.

Dude, there are people who work 16 hours a day and can barely afford to eat. Your reasoning doesn't make sense.

Get it trough your skul: THE WORLD IS NOT FAIR. THERE IS NO GALACTIC CERTAINTY FOR FAIRNESS, NO AMERICAN DREAM AND HONEST HARDWORKING PEOPLE GET FUCKED OVER EVERY SINGLE DAY.

You know what's even more sad? You're so in love with a your view of America that you're not able to see the true problems of America. One of thz major problems is the inability of many of its citizens to adopt an objective point of view towards themselves and the world and the inability of many American citizens to criticize the Unites States.

The United States hasn't been a Super Power since the cold war ended. And in what field is the US still a World Power? Militarily? It can't even effectively control a country like Iraq or Afghanistan. Economically? Nope. Not the biggest exporter. The largest deficit, sure. But that's about it. The strongest currency? Nope. The largest  single market? Nope. Does the US maybe produce the most movies? Nope. What then? Does having a massive percentage of prisoners constitute being a superpower? I don't think so. Politically? Sure, and North-Korea doesn't have nukes...

Face it. The world is interdependent. It's the 21th century. Everyone needs everyone. Sovereignty is an illusion.

Madace, Mexicans working harder than Americans have nothing to do with it.

Its the fact that the ILLEGAL Mexicans are here working their asses off because they know they can get away with crap and send all that money to Mexico.

    Let's put it this way:

Let's say the Mexican Curreny was about 4 times higher than the American currency; if I was an asshole, I would jump the fence into mexico with my wife. Work my ass for for 800 Mexican currency a week, send that to my Uncle in the US making that 800 about 3200 and then have my wife pop  babies out and let the mexican citizens worry about paying medical bills.

Then I will further mooch from the Mexican government by taking money from the tax payers to get free food and then welfare and then invite about 6 of my brothers to live us with to make our rent cheaper.

After about 10 years of work, I have amassed about 500,000 dollars based on the American weaker currency, use that money to bring more over with the help of a smuggler and make more money, all the while making more money from the government.

    *************

That is what its like here. MadAce, you dont live in America. You have absolutely no idea what its like. How would you feel if thousands and thousands of illegal immigrants move into your country and stole your jobs and mooch from your taxes and they dont have to pay a damn red cent. Please. You would piss your pants.

And you think America is rough? Take a look at Japan.  Only one person from American became a Japanese citizen EVER three years ago because you CANT become a Japanese Citizen if you are from another country.

You have no idea whats its like here. You have to have a self identity and a sence of national pride and a sense of "self identity" to know what it feels like. Not like amass of people forming and kissing the asses of a European Union where the executive panel makes George Bush leadership seem like a miracle from the gods.

Damn...looks almost like a European Map in 1941

Question: That poverty 13 to 12% thing.. how is that calcuated? If we're judging Mexico to our standards of income, then it's not really valid is it? What I'm asking is: Are those people poor by our standards, or poor by theirs? Being poor in Mexico is a lot different than being poor in America.

Exactly. Like I said poor in the US is NOT poor in Mexico. As the chart below shows

US Poverty Table (according to US Census 2006)

    One person, under 65 years -- $8,959
One person, 65 years and over -- $8,259

After about 10 years of work, I have amassed about 500,000 dollars based on the American weaker currency, use that money to bring more over with the help of a smuggler and make more money, all the while making more money from the government.

    Dude, you're one walking cliché.

You think you have immigrants? Think of it this way. How many people are living in North America. How many empoverished people are surrounding Europe? Exactly.

Then you go on an whine how I supposedly don't have a national identity.

I don't have to make a national identity up. I don't need a massive billion dollar movie industry to rewrite history. I have real history. A few blocks from where I live there's a 300 year old castle. My city has been a city for over 1200 years. That's a few times as long than the US has existed.

I'm the first to say the US has a culture and a unique identity. But don't go an confuse that one with... Maybe when your culture will get somewhat more mature that you'll realize that "national identity" is a funny thing when your nation is as young as yours. Sure,my country is younger than yours. But  before that it was something else. Before that it was something else. Before that and before that and before that and so on. That's how you forge national identity. Not with flags or lying to yourself.

So while your busy dumbing yourself down by caricaturizing people who aren't very different from you and while you are trying your very best not to broaden your horizons there are children being born all over the world who, even without knowing how to speak, have a richer heritage than you'll ever have.

Maybe your childrens children will stop deluding themselves. Maybe THEIR culture and THEIR self-image will be strong enough to stand proud, no matter what, to live trough occupation and still know a true identity. Maybe they will not have to look over their shoulder, fearing something undefinable that would take their precious, barely definable nation away and replace it with something that wouldn't have a lot of unfunded bravado. Maybe they will realize "no matter what, no matter how I cooperate, I am who I am. And I will evolve to protect who I am." Like many European countries do. They're so confident in their heritage, often thousands of years old, that they can grow, expand and prosper, fearlessly. Knowing, I can not lose. I can only gain. Change will not make me fear the light, brightly cast by the future.

    Mad Ace

    No offense

But you cannot talk about true self identity when your country gave up their national identity for a global European Constitution.

Thank God Im an American where our country *currrently* still values self identity and national patriotism and no amount of your anti-American rhetoric or dribble will ever change that, bud

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

You don't get it, do you?

Man, I feel sorry for you.

I wonder what you'll be doing with your national identity. Just cower in a corner, hide it from the sunlight and hope it won't grow up so you'll be its mammy forever...

That part in red makes no sense what so ever Madace.  America was something else too before it was America.  Actually our region has had people in it for around 14000 years so we can really claim to be as old as well.  So don't act all high and mighty like you have this huge cultural advantage over America.  National Pride comes from Pride in your Nation.  You can't possibly have National Pride in a Nation that didn't exist before.  That would be culture or Regional Identity but National Identity means that you must first be a nation.
