Your new rig shouldn't have a problem running the game, however I don't know why you didnt go with the Q6600 quad core, it is fairly cheap and it its a great gaming processor with good overclocking potential.

As far as people claiming that as a gamer Vista 64 bit is a must you are wrong. First of a lot of apps still arent fully compatible with 64 bit OS, so you are going to run into a lot of compatibility issues, Vista 32 bit is in a way similar as well, some of your apps wont work, or wont work properly.

I was running Vista 32 for the DX10 (it was the only reason) and beat Crysis on it, it looked amazing, than i tried the DX9 version of the game and compared the two and in all honesty I couldnt really tell the difference, with the exception of brighter contrast lighting, which imo wasnt that much better. Now im running Win XP pro (32 bit) and my computer runs smoother than it did with Vista, some of the games have increased frame rate. I also have XP 64 bit but I havent installed that yet, XP pro works great, and it uses up less resources than any other OS which leaves more resources for your gaming.

I built my system with parts bought from Newegg and they are a great company to deal with and their costumer support is the best ever.

Anyway GL with yout build OP and enjoy it.

I still can't believe that you haven't made a decision yet. I gave you that crap about going with the other one besides newegg just to frustrate you and pull your hair out. Why? Because if you're going to be playing AoC, you're going to have to make decisions for yourself and stop asking everyone elses opinion like a little girl. AoC is for men that have hair on their chest, not little girls who like pink.

Just get the damn newegg one and let this thread die.
  • XavierxxXavierxx Member Posts: 251

i didnt pull my hair out

its cool that u just like to virtually harrass ppl by just throwing that kinda stuff at them in the form of text

alls i wanted was a NUMBER

not some stupid technial lecture which is wat i didnt ask for

well i ended up choosing the newegg one

thx to the guys who actually gave me a choice

why are people still responding and trying to help this guy?  He obviously does not want any real discussion on this.  Ignore him.

No idea.  I suggested Newegg.. that's all I can do.  If the guy still wont choose, then it's not our fault.  Seriously guy, just pick one.  I doubt you'll go wrong with either.

I always wonder what the heck these people are running to have compatibility problems with applications.  I've had Vista 64 for over a month now and I haven't had a single issue with any applications.  The only problems I had was with a network driver turning off and having to install Vista with less than 3 gigs of RAM before patching it to use over 3 gigs.  Oh yeah, the User account control, but I turned that annoying thing off.  See, nothing that has to do with applications.  I've installed multiple games and applications and everything works perfectly.

Winamp, winrar, DivX, Quicktime, Nero9, AIM, limewire, Firefox, Logitech mouse/keyboard software, a plethora of different games, like Starcraft, Diablo2, Titan Quest, LOTRO, WoW, Need for Speed: MW, CoD3, BF2 and the list goes on.

I'm really interested to see what Vista has problems with.  I guess I'm just too lazy to research..

For one thing, that 3 gigs of ram in Vista is the same as 2 gigs in XP--Vista sucks up an extra gig of ram for itself.

Much of Vista is devoted to control over your media--Vista's, not yours.

Just search drm problem with vista

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Windows_Vista

"Another common criticism concerns the integration of new forms of digital rights management (DRM) into the operating system, specifically the Protected Video Path (PVP), which involves technologies such as High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) and the Image Constraint Token (ICT). These features have been added to Vista due to an agreement between Microsoft and major Hollywood studios.[16] Microsoft claims that movie studios and other providers of "premium content" will only allow their data to be played back on PCs if sufficient protection is granted. This will concern, among other things, play-back of protected content on HD DVD and Blu-ray discs, but it won't be enabled until at least 2010."

Watch the latest episode of "The Guild" and other Pwnage videos from around the net--also post your own: http://PwnerTV.com

Its not the running of things that really annoyed me. I actually only had a problem with one app and it was an old one, what sucks about vista is all the crap that runs in the background which isnt that big of a deal but it puts more stress on your system. That is why I dislike Vista over XP, also another issue for me was overclocking my Phenom. I couldnt pass 2.5 ghz with Vista but with XP I can reach 2.8 ghz.

I don't hate Vista and I still have the disk and may go back to it, but for now im sticking with XP, it works with everything and it runs more efficient, like the above poster said, running 3 gigs on vista is the same as running 2 gigs on XP and I say this from experience.

PS.......Check out Zipzoomfly.com as I have found their prices are usually better and their service has been great over the last 4-5 years I have dealt with them too.

I built a Phenom system too bro but I hear that Vista SP1 and the rumor is that even XPSP2 enables the errata patch by default thus resulting in a 20% performance loss from your cpu, there is a little app someone made that disables it, I have yet to get it but I will be looking for it. Its amazing how they are making the TLB bug bigger than it needs to be when all it effects is 1% of the users who use their systems under extreme circumstances (not gaming). I have always kept it disabled from bios and have never crashed, but now windows activates it on startup no matter what you choose in your bios.

Vista sp1 has caused an unsurmountable amount of problems on my pc due to device driver issues. I highly suggest you DO NOT get vista sp1. I uninstalled it recently and my computer has been stable since. Vista isn't as bad as some ppl say, but just don't get sp1.

I'm going to need to upgrade my desktop soon but currently don't have the money. I was wondering if my laptop will run it in the interim, obviosly with toned down graphics.

    Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2080 (1MB/1.73GHz/533MHz)

    2GB, DDR2, 533MHz

256MB Ge Force 7300 Graphics card

    MS Windows XP Pro

Personal experience - steer clear of Cyberpower, they are bad news even though they appear like a good deal. Newegg is the only way to fly and I would suggest you splurge on a Nvidia 9800GX2 paired with a 800WATT minimum power supply. Its a single card solution that will outlast/outperform anything for a while and will run AoC as best as it can be ran on release. Getting massive amount fo RAM ie 6-8GB wont hurt either in a 64bit OS environment.

Cliff notes: Newegg, piece together, 800WATT PSU, 9800GX2, 64-bit OS w/ 4GB+ RAM

FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !

I agree with you, I have those parts sitting on my side table right now :) Except PC Power & Cooling PSU.

Machine should be ready to go in a few weeks.

  • I'd say go with newegg.  My last computer was a Cyberpower system.  Nothing but problems with that company.  Video card went out within 6 months, thats not so bad i guess.  But i shiped it to them and got it back with a broken video card.  Shiped it to them again and got it back with a broken video card.  And finally on the third time i got a working video card, but they never installed the drivers.

Should make youre own, will get better hardware at a cheaper price.  Also funner.
