Is there an MMO out there like this?

(look at my next post - post 10)

Right, i have played very few mmorpgs for very long. This is because i hate grinding my combat level against endless variations of the same monsters. I mainly try free mmos and i know that by only going free i'm not going to get the best, but is there an MMORPG which has the following:

  • Free Gameplay, meaning i would like to get a lot out of the game for free, even if there are premium items
  • Good graphics: not brilliant, but somewhere along the lines of WoW is fine, as that is the benchmark for all MMOs
  • Skills other than combat: This is absolutely essential, i hate games that are 100% revolved around combat and quests; i would like to make money through other means i.e. weapon making, such as in Runescape (i havn't encountered others that have alternative skills)
  • A decent chat system: I want to talk to those nearby, and would also like to add friends and speak to them. This is normal for most MMOs, but i couldnt live without it.
  • I don't mind if it is class-based or skill-based, this doesn't really matter, providing it is a fairly decent combat system
  • there has to be decent measures in place to ban hackers/bots; games like silkroad online are really bad for this, nothing like that please
  • I don't mind too much about the PVP system as long as you can interact with other people i.e. trades, partying etc; otherwise i'm better off playing Elder scrolls oblivion.

And thats it. If there is an MMO like this somewhere out there, please tell me; even if it isn't free, just let me know that it exists.

Games that i have tried in the past few weeks are Flyff, rappelz, Silkroad online, Regnum online, Guild wars. i do not truly like any of these games, and i need something good to pass the time.

Well if you are willing to pay to play, then TCoS could be the game for you,it is near its released date,so you will start with everyone else and seems to have what you are looking for.

If you want a game now, then it would depend on your specs,as for free games there isnt to much that has everything you want, although I may well be corrected on this.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

    TCoS?

Yeah, the main thing for me would be less then £10 a month subscription with under £20 retail, or at least a free download and below £12 subscription. I wouldn't pay any more than that, as i'm going to uni in like 6 month and i need all the money i can get. Although if i'm going to pay, i want it to be real quality.

You can try Anarchy Online. LEt's see how it works agains t what you are looking for:

    - Free to play? yes you get a lot of content with the froob accounts. You won't be uber but you can do ok with some professions.

    - Good graphics? No. But the graphics engine will be upgrade this year. I personally like the graphics as they are right now.

    - Skills other then combat? well, there's some crafting and if you go on certain profession, mainly combat support professions,  there's some usefull skills like crowd control, healing and so on. AO has a lot of non combat skills but like all MMORPG leveling is focus on quest or combat.

    - Great chat system. One of the best I've found.

    - Combat is: target (left mouse or TAB)+Q+n (where n are apecial attacks on your shortcut bar - you can have more than one btw). It looks easy but the order you use your special attacks require some skill

    - There's decent measures to ban hackers and bots

    - You can interact a lot with other people.

Try it. F2P is the best around imho

It's not free, but LOTRO might be an option.

Great graphics, useful tradeskills, pretty solid and mature community. It has dedicated roleplay servers, if you're into that, and an unusual PvP system whereby once your main character reaches level 10, you can take control of a level 50 (max level) "monster" to PvP with against the main characters of other players in a special PvP zone.

Another possibility might be EVE. Great graphics, huge community and a very casual-friendly offline training system that completely eliminates the whole "grind to next level" thing.

Edit: Both LOTRO and EVE have free trials available at the moment.

Try Mabinogi if you can stand anime graphics and an older graphics engine.

Just pay the few cents per day .. that way you can actually play games that have some quality to them

I wouldn't mind paying for a game if it was exceptional. I have seen WoW, played it for a while, didn't like it much. Runescape used to be my favourite game because of its browser play, but i have my own computer and i can download, so thats just not good enough.

If there is a good game that meets my 'requirements' above, that you have to pay for, just let me know that it exists. I don't want one of those cheap remakes of WoW. If i pay a monthly subscription i don't want a player shop where you have to spend extra for perks, i want full gameplay.

Games i am considering, but have no idea what they are like are: EVE online, LOTRO, Everquest 2, FFXI - Are any of these any good?

    Everquest 2,

just join a pve server, not a full pvp. -> (I don't mind too much about the PVP system as long as you can interact with other people i.e. trades, partying etc;)

Eve online, whit all respect, forgot it. its a good game but I doubt it be good for you.

Dont ask me why he he, its just a general feeling i get from reading youre post.

And have to say my feelings in people rarely are wrong.

And youre right,  free games are bad.  guildwars is a exsample of a nice idea for free but dont expect more then the raw basics of game ( aint a mmo btw )

as a tip , just try the darn games out. almost every p2p mmo has a trial .

Any mmo that has a item shop next to a monthly pay you always should avoid in my view.

LOTRO and EQ2 are of a similar vein as WoW, so if you didn't like WoW then you'd be better off giving them a miss.

EVE is a space-trading/combat game. You may remember Elite from the early 90s or the recent generation of X-Beyond The Frontier games from Egosoft. Basically, you are a ship pilot. You can fight other players ships, pirate drone ships (computer controlled) and you can also mine asteroids in order to get raw resources to make things out of, such as ships, ship components, weapons and ammo.

It's an incredibly complex and difficult to master game; the sheer learning curve puts a lot of people off from even trying the game, but if you're looking for a game with a long-term time investment then you'd be wise to try out EVE's free trial.

    LOTRO http://www.lotro.com/trial

    EvE https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?aid=102321&bid=&nogreet=1

    EQ2 http://everquest2.station.sony.com/freeTrial.vm

    FFXI http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/trial/index.html

each one of these games has a free trial. Why dont you decide on your own or browse through the other 1000 topics like this.

My reccomendation would be Everquest 2.It has more depth than WoW or LOTRO.Has a very solid and fun crafting mechanic.Crafting in EQ2 is a mini game, albeit not hard, but better than just standing there watching a progress bar fill up.I also dont understand people saying its like WoW when its not.I could go on and on about how its not.

EvE is cool if you like floating around in space and taking years to get anywhere.(yes earth years)

FFXI is a super grind.A fantastic game once you hit the high level content. But leveling is slow and a big grind.

LOTRO is very casual and may suit your tastes better as there are fun interactive group oriented quests. This is only if you like staring at ugly player models and choppy animations. The world is gorgeous though.

Regardless of whatever MMO you choose there is always a grind.Grind mobs, Grind quests, Grind PvP,Grind reputation, whatever you do is a grind regardless of what mechanics are in play.

Stay away from  asian MMO's they are all super grinds.

You might Like Fury its F2P and is completely PvP based. The grinding in this game is playing alot of matches against other players.

I don't mind grind games, as long as there is variation. if you level for hours by grinding your combat stats, there should be other things to do, other ways to advance in the game that do not involve combat; this is why i used to play runescape. I've been playing Flyff recently and also Regnum online, both of which are just combat grind games, no other things to do.

pvp is good, but more as something to do aside from the general gameplay. I wouldn't like an all pvp game, but i wouldnt like any games without pvp either.

i think i'll have a look at the free trials for everquest and eve, they look ok i guess
