remember that lvl 20-60 has had exp increase of 25% to help new players get into outlands where 90% of players are. As to many who say it takes a few weeks to a month to get to 70.. if thats game time.. ie 720 hours then they are right.. if its a few weeks to a month real time.. starts on april 1st be lvl 70 by april 30th.. only hardcore new player (no job) and sessoned players will achieve that.
since patch 2.3,
I can easily make 70 in 8 days played (less than 200 hours) ... 6-8 weeks IRL
200 hours equals to ... say 2 hours per day for a not so casual person (a real casual person wouldn't play more than 10 hours a week). That equals to 3+ months to reach max level. That's not a bad amount of time, provided you can actually game in the 2 hours and not wait for a group to do anything meaningful.

You don't need a group to level up. In fact most of the time the random 'pick ups' tend to slow you down.
It's no less complex than it's rivals, it's just way better explained, way more intuative to learn. New skills and tactics are introduced throughout the game at a readily absorbable pace. You get the chance to master each one before the next one arrives.
Games with really crap learning curves and tutroials would be Eve and Anarchy Online. They are the botttom of the barrel in my eyes. (Although Anarchy Online's human player guides in the tutorial zones help a lot).
I don't find WoW any easier or harder than any other MMO really. MMO's are those kind of games where you can always set your own difficulty level. If it's too easy, attack bigger monsters. If it's too hard, attack smaller monsters.
People like to knock WoW as being too easy. They think that because something very complex is easy for them to understand, that they are much too smart for it.
I just think they had a smarter teacher. It's not easy to make people who have so much difficulty in all the other games suddenly feel that smart. It takes talent.

When I was levelling up in WoW I often had 'orange' or 'red' quests which were much harder than the yellow and green ones. I don't know if this has changed but I know that if I really wanted the reward from the higher level quests early, I would have a tough time on my hands - especially if it was inside a mini-dungeon.
I don't know about EVE's learning curve though, it is a complicated game, but I agree that the interface could be improved.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
WoW is as hard as you would like to make it. Go to SM with a group of 37s and come back and say how easy it was.
I've played most all MMO's and their all the same, However Hard in my book = bad UI, bad movement, bad chat system. EQ2 you have to type everyones name out if you would like to chat for one example. And that to me equals sucks, but some people call it harder.
I like to use leisure to get around a world and find hard things to do, and that is WoW, and that is why it's still the only popular game.
Most get confused between " being sick of " with " easy ". How many post have you seen people say they had 3 level 70s and the game is easy? Well sure you had 3 level 70s it should be easy, Time to move on !!!!
Kids......... Well kids are equally in all mmo's BOTTOM LINE, END OF STORY !, Any 13 year old can play ANY Game just as good as you, they just have short tempers and quit groups a lot.
I dont play WoW anymore because "I'm sick of ".....not easy.
But you know, people...they want you to believe that that special type of MMO they're playing is way more advanced and hardcore than yours. They want to convince you they're part of the elite. Just ignore it. The fact that they're so loud about it only means they know most people don't agree with them.
How the hell was EVE hard to learn? Boring I will give you but hard to learn lol please.
People can bash WOW all they want but numbers don't lie.
Eve and other fanbois do though.
Only MMO that I would even consider "Hard" and I probably would not use that word was AO and that was due to the implant system and twinking. Thats probably the only time I was in a MMO and got a headache from having to crunch numbers and what not to get my guys twinked out with extremly high level implants.

There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
WOW was very easy to learn. The first few levels are easy and allows you to enjoy the environments! You dont have to read huge texts to figure out what to do as far as gameplay. I would would say the learnign curve is only baout 2 hours tops to get the basics.
You also figure out quickly to relegate your tactics when you start to pvp or group up!
COH/COV was the 2nd easiest to pick up and learn.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR. Playing EVE Online and AOC. Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
WoW is easy, because unlike some other games, it's UI is easy to learn, working, and you won't have to fight against it when you want something to be done.
WoW is easy, because unlike in some other games, in WoW you won't have to find out that you'd need to create completely new character and grind it to max level, because you made a mistake while developing your previous character.
WoW is easy, because unlike in some other games, in WoW your character smoothly follows your commands and does exactly as you order it to do and when you order it to do. You won't have to fight against mistakes made by game's bad character control system.
WoW is easy, because unlike in some other games, it's actually possible to find and collect a group when you need one. The social challenge of dealing with other players is easier.
WoW is easy, because unlike with other games, when you fail to kill an enemy and die, you can make a new attempt without first spending 1 hour running to your corpse, grinding lost experience, and doing other boring things to recover from your loss.
WoW is easy, because after combat your character can recover quite quickly. And head on to next battle without you having to wait for too long.
WoW is easy, because usually players are able to determine how hard a challenge some enemy is, and they won't end up having to test and die multiple times to figure it out.
WoW is easy, because once a patrolling enemy attacks you, you'll still have a chance to run away if it's too much for you to win.
But actually fighting the enemies with WoW, once you have entered the battle (with your group, or alone), and winning, isn't any easier in WoW than it is in some other MMOs.
WoW's one of those mmos with little depth and complexity, which any preteen can pickup and get into. It's the newbie island of mmo's, basically. There's nothing complicated about it. Of course if one's experience is only wow (or similar natured mmos) then you wont quite understand what we mean by that.
Play vanguard or perhaps AO or EvE or one of those mmos that have a much steeper learning curve to get a feel for why WoW is considered 'easy'.
WoW is good in that it teaches the mmo play style to new gamers. It keeps certain gamers out of our other games. It shows the market that mmo is viable as an investment, etc etc. The downside is the other companies see it, and want to emulate it, instead of trying to come up with their own ultimate mmo universes.
WoW is much more like your typical nintento console game (the cartoony ones, which are a majority there) than a full dynamic alternate universe experience.
To finish: unlike others, I wont call out wow players as being noobs or whatnot. If thats the kind of game they like, all the power to them. For myself.. it was dull and felt like playing a kiddy game (but then again I havent been one of those for 20 years so eh). It didn't provide me with any reason to use the thing in my skull. But thats personal to me.. and doesnt mean its not a valid game for anyone else.
lets look at it this way hard meaning do you really appreciate the character you built, is easy nice sure < dad i would like a car, a nice one> o here so take this . you jump in speed off burn those 600 or more dollars tires them in a few hours wreck. ah dad can i have another ? now if you took the time to work for that car knew every hour it took to get you would not treat it this way.. Like a character in eq on FV server you had 1 toon you planed you time nothing was that easy raids took so much planing , and lets not go in to getting your epic weapon .. but when you did you felt proud. is gettting something easy nice yep... but most older gamers like the long road gives you time to really know and love what you built..
Yes i play WoW some , but though i own three accts. i can not play more then a few hours before i start to get board. Like 1 poster said WoW is like a McDonald hambuger yes they sale millions of them .. is it a great burger nope is it easy to get and woof down yep let grab a fast McD ..

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. If you think that Vanguard is a "full dynamic alternate universe experience", there's no point even trying to reason with you.
You may say that WoW is a kiddie game and easy, and that might make you feel a little better when you're playing your awful other games which have fake depth and are nowhere near as good, but it doesn't make it true.
You can imply that everyone playing it is 10 years old and there's no challenge, but that doesn't make it true.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
WoW is very easy, it's its curse as well as its blessing. It's only to be easier with the new expansion. We already have WoW fanbois crying bloody murder that the new raids are going to be simpler to the casual user.
[[ DEAD ]] - Funny - I deleted my account on the site using the cancel account button. Forum user is separate and still exists with no way of deleting it. Delete it admins. Do it, this ends now.
I laugh to hear people say Vanguard is hard, I didnt even read the manual when i started to play it, it is exactly the same as Wow, you have a hotbar, with your skills on and then you see a guy standing with an icon representing a quest, you take the quest and then go do it, come back rinse and repeat.
How different is that to WoW?
This is exactly the same as EQ2, in EQ2 you get Race traits every other level, and in EQ2 you dont have to go back and buy new skills when you level, am i worng or does that make EQ2 even easier than wow lol
To recap all these MMOs are the same, if you say that WoW is easy then you must consider other games hard, in which case you most probably have a learning disorder or an attention deficit of some kind.
WoW is easy because the content has been focused on getting you to lvl 70 as quickly as possible. Raiding and pvp offer somewhat of a challenge, but really when was the last time there was any video game that was super hard? These are distractions, and most people will not pay for difficult distractions.
Perhaps the reasons the others are listing are valid, but I'll go a bit off the beaten path here and list a few of my own reasons.
...
1) The game is well documented. I'm not talking about the game mechanics (down to the smallest fraction of a measurement), but those are well documented... they aren't variables that you have to guess at (like they have been in other games).
I'm talking about the fact that nearly every aspect of WoW has been gone over with a fine toothed comb and documented and catalogued so that it can be easily referenced. There is so much raw data on WoW that it's not even funny.
If you are just starting off in WoW... you really only need 2-3 things:
Go to the site, enter the mob, item, or quest name... and there you have everything you need to know about it + what other players thought about it/how they did it, etc.,...
mod's: anything that gives you map coords, maybe an aggro meter (for grouping/dungeons), and a UI mod (if you're feeling frisky)
once you hit the website and got coords... pull up the map... mark the spot... OR there are mods with a lot of quest/mob information already built in.
Mute/ignore hotkey: this is for your mental health
Seriously, only someone without those things will ask many questions. Some noob that just loads the game and walks right in without reading anything or talking to anyone yet has those tools will learn the game in a very short time. They will progress with blinding speed.
If you are a rediculous, lazy child-like noob... one that just sits and spams for help with questions rather than using the fatty matter that resides inside their skull and hitting a few websites and attempting to help themselves... then WoW is hard.
2) The game is solo-friendly. Forget raids and dungeons/instances. You can solo your way to some of the best gear in the game. (I do consider BG's 'solo'... in that you don't need to group with anyone to hop into a BG. And once you are in a BG, you can do anything you want in there.)
You can solo quests/mobs in one area and move to the next. If you discover that the next area is too high level, there are typically 2-3 other places that you can go do a few quests that will get you to the appropriate level for that 'next area'.
If you are on a PvE server... the game is cruise-control, easy-mode.
It's not much different if you are on a PvP server. You just might get ganked by the higher level players who need to flex by one shotting or camping you. If/when this happens... there are typically 2-3 other places that you can go to do quests. Don't be a hard headed arse-hat and sit and spam about being camped (say it once and if nobody comes to help you out, move along... don't sit and spam about how bad this faction sucks cause they didn't help you/save you).
Need gear as a solo player? Craft, run BG's, do quests, grind mob's for random drops, and hit the AH.
Need gold as a solo player? Daily quests, quests @ cap level (and up to cap), craft, etc.,...
...
I'm not saying you can't solo in other games, because you can. But WoW is very easy. It's probably the easiest game to get into and progress in... and that's a good reason why it has 10,000,000 players.
I know this post may sound negative, but it's not really intended to be.
I just think it's very odd that there are people that find WoW hard. Perhaps the game seems more difficult for solo players that are trying to grind as certain spec's of certain classes? Holy Priest, for example.
...
As a new 'solo' player (without any friends or a guild in the game ot help you out), the most frustrating thing in the game at early levels will be.... bag space. Bag space was my biggest challenge, lol.

i agree. it is constructed to get you to 70 as fast as possible. The mobs are easy and color coded so you know essentially if you are going to win.
No one would want to pay for difficult and annoyinh distractions. more power ed!

yes there are people that like a chalange from lvl 1 on up i don't mind some easy quest or easy mobs to grind but i don't need a game to hold my hand as i play, i don't need a web site with all the quest, item, spell, skill stats to help me on my way i like to ask people IN GAME where to go who to see to finish a quest. if i wanted a easy game to play yes i would play wow couse it's easyer then taking a morning dump after a good coffee, but some times i am in the mood for a hard core game one that makes me use my skills as a GAMER !! guess only FPS will give me that rush of battle i use to get trying to not get pk on the rallos server on eq, now if someone gets pk and loses a item its the end of the world !! come on you are all a bunch of dorks !! you all think your hard core gamers, please....
Soloing does not make a game easy. I've grouped in many of your so called hardcore games, including EQ1. Grouping in that game actually made the game easier with faster progression, so I really don't understand this stupid reasoning on your part.
All MMO's are color coded, you can con anything you might want to fight and it will tell you if you have a chance to win, fricken easy mode in every MMO out there. Even EQ1, the holy grail of hardcores has a conning system not only by color, but will literally tell you in text what your chances are.
The majority of MMO's out there use the quest icons over an npc's head, yet another easy mode belief, yet running around trying to find quests without indicators doesn't make the game any harder, it makes it more tedious.
All of these systems you say make a game harder do not actually do that, they just make them frustrating because they do nothing but waste time and if you think time sinks are what make a game hard, then you have some serious issues. Slow leveling does not make a game hard, it just makes it slow and grindy, good grief. Time sinks do not test your ability, they test your patience.
You hardcores really need to get over your god complexes, because your play style is not superior, nor is it an indication of how deep or complex a game is or how easy it is to play.
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
WoW is easy. EQ is easy. EQ2 is easy. I thought EVE was easy. DAoC is easy. Every MMO I've played has been easy. Some of these games have more depth, but certainly they are all easy to master.
There is a simple concept to MMOs. Kill. Get XP. Get money. Try not to die. Name one MMO where those aren't the goals, and maybe its hard.
You get the person or NPC you're fighting to die before you. That might mean you need to get more help. It may mean you can do it on your own. People are only fooling themselves who think the MMO they play is hard. Nah, MMOs are childsplay, but they are FUN.
Until they come out with MMOs where you have to formulate theories on nuclear energy, or solve calculus problems, or take about a car engine and figure out how to put it back together MMOs are not hard. They are easy!

go play Anarchy Online, and try building your own implants. Try twiinking a lvl 150 gun on to a lvl 60 toon.
Try playing a GA fixer and not gimping yourself getting it on. Play a MP, and try getting a lvl 200 pet on at lvl 110. Play a 'Crat and try not getting killed by your own pets. Build your own luxury yalm. Assemble, energise, and spawn a pocket boss.
Try SWG, and take up armor smithing, beast master, chef, or shipwright. (although anything BUT crafting in this game is just WAY too easy).

WoW is the easiest MMORPG to level to cap, imho.
If you are just starting off in WoW... you really only need 2-3 things:
website resources: WoWhead, wowwiki, thottbot, etc.,...
You're gonna wanna ignore n00bs, annoying kids, etc.,..
